NJ couple celebrate 70 years of marriage: 'We hit it off immediately'

The Brief An Atlantic County couple are marking a milestone anniversary, celebrating 70 years of wedded bliss. After seven decades of marriage, they say it seems like just yesterday they tied the knot. BRIGANTINE, N.J. - An Atlantic County couple is marking a huge milestone as they celebrate 70 years of marriage. He's 96. She's 93. They look great, they feel great. They are mentally sharp and they say it seems like yesterday that they were married. The backstory Will and Jane Laverghetta, of Brigantine, walked down memory lane, recalling how they met in 1953 at Cooper Hospital where Jane was working as a nurse. "We hit it off immediately," Jane said. Will said, "My sister was a patient and I had just gotten out of the service and I needed a date and she told me there's a very cute nurse working along here." Will says Jane was very attractive and nice, "I got her phone number and I called her. And, that was the beginning." "Was it love at first sight?" asked FOX 29's Dawn Timmeney. "I don't know about that," Will laughed. Love story It didn't take the two long to figure out they were made for each other. They married on a Sunday, on May 29th, 1955, at a small Catholic church in Tuckerton, New Jersey. Jane said, "Normally, they didn't do weddings on a Sunday, but my father had a grocery store, and they couldn't close it on a Saturday. So, we did it on Sunday mass." The couple went on to have three children – two daughters and a son. They have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The whole family gathered to celebrate their lifetime of love, the best gift they could ever receive. "It's a great feeling to see that," Will commented. "Really feel like you accomplished something, all together like that." Big picture view So, what is their secret to a successful marriage? They say it's simple, as Jane jokes, "I'm easy to get along with." Will said, "She always keeps an eye out on me. What I'm wearing. She sees a spot from a mile away. Just happened the other day. I'm 96 and she's telling me what to wear and how to wear it. 'You better change that shirt.'" All kidding aside, Will and Jane say they truly enjoy each other's company and doing things together. "We're still planting plants and everything else, working in the garden. Try to talk her out of that kind of stuff to no avail," Will joked. They also say the key to being together so long is lots of give and take. Jane explained, "Compromising and just being friends. He's my best friend. Let me put it that way. You don't fight with your best friend." Happy 70th anniversary to Will and Jane!

The Coolest Thing You Can Do at Disneyland for Its 70th Anniversary

If there are two things Disney fans love, it's exclusive merchandise and interactive games. So, when news broke of an event that combined the two for the 70th anniversary celebration of Disneyland, I knew the first chance I had, I was going to try it. Disneyland in Anaheim, California, just began its year-long 70th anniversary celebration and one of the many, many, fun new things you can do at the park is unlock it with a Key to Disneyland. The journey starts with a purchase (don't they all?) of a $60 plastic key that measures about a foot and a half long (seen above). Just on its own, this is a cool item to display or play with, depending on your age. But this key goes well beyond that. With the key, you are then tasked with unlocking nine sections of the park. You can do this over the course of a single day, a few trips, whatever you'd like. So you go to each place—Main Street USA, Adventureland, New Orleans Square, Bayou Country, Tomorrowland, Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, Frontierland, Mickey's Toontown, and Fantasyland—and find a special unlock station which looks roughly like this. Half the fun of the event is trying to find these stations, which, at times, are pretty well hidden. Of course, this event has been going on for about a week as of publication, so all the locations are out there (and I'll detail them below in case you want a helping hand) but I appreciated how some are easier to find than others. Each is also themed to the land it unlocks, so they're all very weird and fun. Once you find the keyhole, you power up your key and insert it. This triggers a unique event at each station, each of which has different lights, music, and even some physical things such as bubbles or projections. You will also notice that each station reveals a new light on your key (which you can see in both photos above). It makes each discovery and unlock a fun little event, worthy of a photo or video. And around the park you go, finding the stations, and unlocking all nine lights, each of which reveals a new lighting scheme and music for your key, which then carries over and you can play later. With each unlock, you get a nice little sense of accomplishment. A small, unique gratification that you are on this adventure around the park and making progress. It's small, it's kind of pointless, but it's enjoyable. Especially when you it's the icing on the cake that you're at the Happiest Place on Earth. Once you unlock all nine lights, you bring the fully unlocked key back to the front of the park for the final station. This is the best part. There, and only after you've visited all the other stations, you get a special little event. Plus, a special compartment on the back of your key opens up and reveals a unique, mystery Disneyland anniversary pin. Also, the key will now play audio of Walt Disney's speech at the opening of Disneyland. There are nine pins in total, one for each land you unlocked. And, if you don't like the one you get, you can try and trade it with pin traders around the park. My wife and I got the Haunted Mansion pin but here are all nine, courtesy of an eBay listing. At this point, you're probably thinking, 'So are you just paying $60 for a light-up piece of plastic and a tiny, random pin you may not like?' Yes, you are. And, as mentioned, it's not really a challenge to find the unlock stations because there are often long lines at each. But there's still a certain Disney magic in walking around this incredible park, thinking about its history, all the changes that have happened over the years, and then getting a fun little reward at the end. You aren't only bringing home the memories, you have a few cool trinkets too. The Key to Disneyland will be on sale through the entire 70th anniversary, which runs from now through next summer. So there is no rush whatsoever. You can read more about it on the official site and, if you are in need of some assistance, here's a guide to each station. The Galaxy's Edge one was, of course, our favorite. Here's a photo. Princess Aiko to visit Laos in November as first official foreign trip

Princess Aiko will visit Laos in November, her first official visit overseas, the Imperial Household Agency said Friday. According to the agency, Japan received an invitation from Laos this month as the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relations this year. After flying to Laos by civil aircraft, the princess will make a courtesy visit to Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith. She will also attend a commemorative anniversary event. The exact date of her trip has yet to be decided. In 2006, the princess, then 4, accompanied her parents, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, on their trip to the Netherlands. When she was a second-year student of Gakushuin Girls' Senior High School in 2018, she studied at Eton College in Britain on a short summer program. Imperial Family members have visited Laos four times, including Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko in 1999 and Emperor Naruhito in 2012 as crown prince.

Disneyland Kicks Off Its 70th Anniversary Celebration with New Nighttime Spectaculars, 70-Plus New Menu Items, and Treasure Hunts

This month, Disneyland officially kicked off its 70th anniversary celebration with festive decor, entertainment, food, merchandise, and even treasure hunts, all centered around the theme of 'Celebrate Happy.' The more-than-yearlong event will run through summer 2026. 'These anniversaries really started in 1955 on July 17 with Walt Disney, when they decorated Main Street red, white, and blue,' David Caranci, Walt Disney Imagineering manager for creative development, said during a media preview event. 'We don't live in the past, but we honor the past. We honor our history, culture, and tradition as we look to the future.' And that's exactly what the celebratory elements do best, as I experienced last week during a sneak preview of the milestone event. So many nostalgic nods pulled on my heartstrings, from the return of the Paint the Night after-dark parade at Disneyland Park with reminders of the Main Street Electrical Parade to the new World of Color Happiness! nighttime show at Disney California Adventure Park, where I caught myself singing along to snippets of The Muppets' 'Rainbow Connection' and the Mickey Mouse Club theme song. The 70th celebration felt like a living scrapbook of all the memories I had made at Disneyland in decades past, while also making me feel like a curious and carefree kid at heart again, rediscovering that magic does exist. Here's your guide to Disneyland Resort's 70th anniversary celebration. A new nighttime spectacular, World of Color Happiness at Disney California Adventure Park. Sean Teegarden/Disneyland Resort For the milestone celebration, the parades, shows, and nighttime spectaculars have been dialed up a the 70th anniversary entertainment, an upbeat new theme song, also called 'Celebrate Happy' is played, featuring the familiar voices of the Jonas Brothers, longtime members of the Disney family. At the original park, the short-but-sweet Celebrate Happy Cavalcade showcases an all-star line-up of Disney characters all dressed in the celebratory colors with fan-favorite characters Duffy, ShellieMay, and Max joining the anniversary party with Mickey, Minnie, Peter Pan, and Aladdin, among others. The mood turns even more festive after dark, with Tapestry of Happiness, a five-minute projection show against the It's a Small World facade. It's a tour through the resort's history, ending with the new theme song merging with the classic ride's song, tying the perfect knot between Disney's past and present. The Paint the Night parade makes its much-anticipated return with more than a million LED lights spotlighting movies from classics like "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Little Mermaid" to more modern favorites like "Monsters Inc." and Cars , culminating in Sorcerer Mickey soaring above the street. Of course, the grand finale here is the Wondrous Journeys fireworks spectacular set against Sleeping Beauty Castle, a walk through 100 years of Disney animation. I remember hearing stories of my mom being wowed by Tinkerbell floating in the air during her first visit, and let's just say there are two floating figures in this show. Over at Disneyland California Adventure, the Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration! daytime parade features nearly 30 characters, while Carthay Circle's tower lights up with a two-minute music and light Celebrate Happy show. The big World of Color after-dark show also has a 70th-specific happiness theme, starting with a Muppets pre-show that's technically about safety but is sure to induce a few laughs. The colorful light, fountain, and projection show is themed around the Inside Out films, with songs from Boyz II Men and Fitz from Fitz and the Tantrums, but overall it's inspired by Walt Disney's words from opening day: 'To all who come to this happy place, welcome!' It's a Small World is one of Disneyland's most historic attractions, so it's only fitting that it would get a refresh for the 70th. Envisioned by Walt himself for the New York World's Fair in 1964 and 1965, he chose a pair of women to bring the 300 characters singing in harmony to life: Mary Blair as art director and Alice Davis as the costumer. Now guests will spot Miguel and Dante from 'Coco' in the Mexico section, and a new song verse written by Richard Sherman, who passed away last year, will be added to the ride on July 17, the exact 70th anniversary. Over at California Adventure, Toy Story Midway Mania! is celebrating the 70th anniversary with logos throughout, including sparkly '70' targets to aim for during the interactive 3D ride. The Mickey Shaped Celebration Waffles. David Nguyen/Disneyland Resort From turkey legs to Mickey waffles, iconic food items have long been a part of Disneyland Resort's legacy—and more than 70 new menu items will be featured through the celebration. 'We wanted to take our classic flavors and put a contemporary presentation on them, and match the color scheme, which gives that celebration feel to it,' Eduardo Rodriquez, chef for Disneyland Resort, tells Travel + Leisure. He called the Peach Cobbler Funnel Cake Fries served with vanilla ice cream his personal favorite, which can be found at Disneyland's Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree. Several dishes also pull on old-school favorites, like the Banana Split Churro (available at California Adventure near Goofy's Sky School) inspired by the original banana split served at Carnation Cafe in 1955, and the W.E.D. Chili Cheese Baked Potato (at Disneyland's Troubadour Tavern ) and Chili Cheese Corn Dog (at California Adventure's Corn Dog Castle) that were inspired by Walt's favorite chili. I was most excited about the throwback Mickey Hat Cookie with the Mickey Mouse Club logo (at Disneyland's Market House), as well as the ube sugar-dusted 70th Celebration Churro (available near Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Haunted Mansion, and Town Square, and California Adventure's Willie's Churros). The 70th anniversary also introduces collectible popcorn buckets like the light-up Mickey Balloon bucket and Mickey Mouse bucket that moves and talks. It wouldn't be a Disney celebration without exclusive merchandise, and there are four distinct collections to choose from. The Celebration Collection uses the celebratory colors along with classic characters and rides in everything from t-shirts and shoulder bags to water bottles and bubble wands and even an interactive MagicBand+ to enhance the park experience. The Castle Collection features all things Disney royalty with a retro logo. Meanwhile, the Vault Collection is a blast from the past with dedicated items for various chapters of the resort's history. Finally, the Disneyland Resort 70th Anniversary Walt Disney Nostalgia Collection dives into the heritage of Walt Disney and the parks themselves, including items with the quote that's memorialized on the underpass leading into Main Street U.S.A.: 'Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.' Medallion stations throughout the parks now have 70th-themed coins, while a few collectible penny machines also have the logo as an option. Dressed in their new 70th attire, Mickey Mouse and his pals make their way down the parade route in The Celebrate Happy Cavalcade at Disneyland Park. Richard Harbaugh/Disneyland Resort As part of the seven-decade commemoration, Disneyland Park also has a pair of special tech features hidden around the park that unlock surprises, almost like a geocaching search, which I'm dubbing "treasure hunts" with magical twist. First, there's the Key to Disneyland, an oversized light-up key that can be purchased at park shops. At each of the nine stations (one in each land), guests place the key into the lock, which will reveal an icon, as well as light and music effects themed to the land you're in. Upon finding the ninth, head to the Mickey Topiary final station near the entrance, where your mystery pin (hidden inside the key) will be revealed. Then there's my obsession that I completely stumbled upon while wearing my MagicBand+, an RFID bracelet that can function as a ticket, payment method, and more. At certain points while walking around the park and during shows, I'd feel it buzz or light up in sync with the surroundings. As I was walking through Downtown Disney, the 70th displays also unlocked songs whenever I waved my hand, leading a bystander to ask 'How did you do that?' to which I could only answer, 'Magic.' But the coolest thing was when I was wandering past the shop by the Golden Horseshoe and saw a few buttons with the 70th logo on them. As I tapped my band on the buttons, a ticket appeared, each for a nostalgic ride. One was for Disneyland Railroad, another for Mark Twain Riverboat, and the third for the Golden Horseshoe Revue–free collectors' items that I didn't even know existed! I then learned there were stations hidden across the park, so of course, I had to hit them all. Near the Jungle Cruise, I got a ticket for the Mekong Maiden. But not all stations were created equal. Tucked in Sleeping Beauty Castle were five different buttons, which unlocked animated movements for the characters behind the window when I tapped them. The highlight was the one from Tilly at the Main Street Cinema, which ejected a retro movie ticket that says it's for 'Our Special 70th Anniversary Guest.' With that kind of pixie dust hidden in plain sight, I found myself smiling nonstop while I explored the park as Disneyland continues its legacy of Celebrating Happy, just as Walt wished.

Al-Nassr unveils new crest to mark club's 70th anniversary

RIYADH: Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr on Monday unveiled a new official crest, which club officials said is part of a refreshed visual identity in celebration of the team's 70th anniversary. A message posted by the team's official account on social media platform X included a video showcasing the new design with the caption: 'A great legacy and history, and a promising future. On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, here is the Al-Nassr logo.' From Saudi Arabia, To the whole world, This is where it all began, Happy 69th anniversary AlNassr — AlNassr FC (@AlNassrFC_EN) October 24, 2024 The redesign features several notable changes, the most obvious of which is the removal of the crown that previously sat atop the crest. The name of the team in English is now stated simply as 'Nassr,' the prefix 'Al-' used in previous iterations now dropped. 'Riyadh' has been added at the bottom of the logo, referencing the club's home city, along with the year in which the team was founded: 1955. The map of the Arabian Peninsula at the center of the crest remains. The most recent significant update prior to this came on Oct. 15, 2020, when a laurel wreath around the sides of the crest and a yellow ribbon at the bottom were removed. Al-Nassr was founded on Oct. 24, 1955, and grew to become one of the most prominent clubs in Saudi Arabia and the wider region. With two matches left to play in the league this season, they sit in fourth place, 13 points behind confirmed champions Al-Ittihad.
