Local businesses booming after Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – View Street Tavern in Chicopee was packed with people Sunday following the 72nd Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade. Post-parade festivities continue at Nathan Bill's Bar and Restaurant in Springfield Frequent customers, first-timers and those in the area were among many who wanted to continue celebrating their Irish roots after the Parade. Annually, the parade-themed celebrations generate $20 million dollars for local businesses and organizations. 'It's good foot traffic you know. People are looking to experience good food, good drinks and we also put Trailer Trash, the band, out there tonight to giveback to the community and the people that come here' says Ed Nunes, Owner of View Street Tavern in Chicopee. In Chicopee, the View Street Tavern has become a staple post Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade. (WWLP) – The 72nd Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade will kick off at 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, broadcast live at noon on WWLP-22News, and streamed on The route is just over two-and-a-half miles so there will be lots of space to see the festivities and get immersed in the spirit of the Irish. It will take approximately three hours and the streets along the route will open as the end of the parade proceeds. What streets are closed ahead of Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race?
HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The 48th annual Holyoke St. Patrick's Road Race will take place on Saturday, with thousands of runners and spectators taking the streets in the downtown area. The race attracts over 7,000 runners participating in the 10K or two-mile walk and thousands of fans lining the streets. On Friday, the City of Holyoke closed Maple Street from Hampden Street to Lyman Street. Chestnut Street was also closed on Friday afternoon from Dwight Street to Hampden Street. Drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes as certain streets will be closed throughout the weekend. Starting Friday at around 3 p.m., the City of Holyoke will close Maple Street from Hampden Street to Lyman Street.
