Commanders NFC East Rival Begins Life With Super Bowl MVP
Commanders NFC East Rival Begins Life With Super Bowl MVP originally appeared on Athlon Sports. At one point in his NFL career, Russell Wilson was one of the best quarterbacks in the game. A Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl star, Wilson was a dual-threat signal-caller that had the Seattle Seahawks as a top team in the league. Advertisement Now, he's looking to hang onto his career … maybe for dear life. Wilson signed a free agent deal with the New York Giants - his third team in as many years and fourth team in the last five. He believes his experience as a Super Bowl winner can help turn around the G-Men as early as this year. "The opportunity here is so great," Wilson said on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast. "I don't mind the lights. I don't mind that part of it. I think the other part of it for me, most importantly of it all that, is I've been here before. "When you walk into a stadium, into a locker room and you know, like my locker is the same locker I had when I won the Super Bowl. So, for me, when I see that, when I walk into the stadium I'm like, I've been here before. Not just been here but, like, we did this before." Advertisement The Commanders don't have to worry about their quarterback situation. Jayden Daniels is one of the best young quarterbacks in the game today. But it is noteworthy with Wilson being in the NFC East. Now, the Giants believe they have a quarterback who can compete with the Commanders and their young phenom. Time will tell if that was the right decision .. as he tries to turn back the clock and turn on the lights in New York. Ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson says three qualities make HC Mike Tomlin special
Ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson says three qualities make HC Mike Tomlin special While many believe HC Mike Tomlin's 'winning records' are overrated, ex-Steelers QB Russell Wilson would strongly disagree. Wilson, who recently appeared on the 7PM in Brooklyn with Carmelo Anthony podcast, was asked to explain what makes Tomlin a 'steadying force' in the NFL — and the former Steeler and current Giants QB had this to say: 'I think there are three things about Mike Tomlin that are special. I think the first thing is his ability, his obsession, and his work ethic. He's there early — at 4:30 in the morning — watching film himself. Like, head coaches don't do that,' Wilson explained. 'That's the first thing. I think the second thing is his ability to connect to players — his ability to have connectivity, his ability to relate to the Black kid, to the white kid, to the guy that's been successful, to the guy that's just starting,' Wilson argued. 'I think ultimately, the [third] thing that's really unique about him is, you know, the ability to embrace the noise — to embrace the obstacle. He stares it right in the face and doesn't run from it.' Tomlin definitely personifies hard work, relatability, and embracing challenging situations — but there's been little playoff success that has come out of it. Russell Wilson says this 'superstar' factored into decision to sign with New York Giants
Russell Wilson says this 'superstar' factored into decision to sign with New York Giants Russell Wilson is back in New York, the place where he won a Super Bowl in 2014 and where he got to live out his dream of being a Major League Baseball player. This time, Wilson is coming in as the quarterback of the New York Giants, but he has always felt he's a strong connection to the largest city in America. He loves it here, even if he might not be here after this season. Wilson and his wife, recording artist Ciara, have been seen about town since he inked the one-year deal with Big Blue that could potentially net him over $21 million. "Just the enthusiasm, man. Just the enthusiasm around the city, walking around in the streets of New York or going to the games or whatever it may be," Wilson said on this week's episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, hosted by NBA legend, Carmelo Anthony. "I've been a Yankee before, I'm still in the Yankees organization, technically still Yankee… It's like no matter how great you are, how great things have been for you, no matter how tough it's been, no matter what's going on in your personal life, no matter what's going on, this and that, at the end of the day, man, the ball heals everything. "Winning heals all wounds. So that's what we're focused on is just the winning process and just doing that and just being successful and being focused on the process of winning. It's not just, obviously the W at the end matters. We can't control that right now, but what we can control is how we go about our business and our focus and bringing a championship mentality and work ethic daily. And that's the presence that I always want to bring." Wilson won Super Bowl XLVIII as the quarterback of the Seattle Seahawks after the 2014 season. The Seahawks walloped the Denver Broncos, 43-8, at MetLife Stadium. Four years later, Wilson, a former draft choice of the Colorado Rockies and farmhand of the Texas Rangers, was invited to spring training by the New York Yankees. He batted in a Grapefruit League game as a pinch hitter for some guy named Aaron Judge. Facing Max Freid of the Atlanta Braves, Wilson struck out on five pitches. Wilson will be the Giants' quarterback come the opening kickoff in September. The 10-time Pro Bowler will be under some pressure and will have to show results. He has Jameis Winston and rookie Jaxson Dart breathing down his neck on the sidelines. Wilson has been long connected to the Giants but the two sides couldn't make it fit until this year. After two seasons in Denver, Wilson landed in Pittsburgh last year with the Steelers. This spring, he and Giants made it work. The usually exuberant Wilson is enthusiastic about meeting the challenges of playing in New York and helping turn the Giants back into contenders. 'New York and this opportunity here to play here, the world's biggest market, the toughest, one of the toughest divisions in football... a lot of odds against you," he told Anthony, who as a former New York Knick, knows plenty about playing under pressure in the Big Apple. 'I just turned on the film and watching this guy Malik Nabers, man, this dude's a superstar. I saw him, I was watching the film and just before I tried to make decisions, try to get a clear understanding of who the players are, this and that, and obviously you see the highlights and everything else, but when you watch every single catch and every single rep and every play, you get to see the kind of player he is, man, he's dynamic. He touches that football, he gone. "I really liked [Brian] Daboll, too. Obviously watching Dabes over the years, the guy who was a coach of the year, I dunno, two, three years ago, brilliant mind spending time with him actually came out here last year before I signed with Pittsburgh last time too and I just had a great appreciation of his mind for the game and how he saw the game.' If you're wondering if any man ever played in a game for both the Yankees and the football Giants, we found the answer. Wilson will be just the second to wear the uniform of both iconic franchises. The only other was Hinkey Haines, who was a reserve outfielder on the Yankees' world championship team of 1923 before turning to football where he played halfback for four seasons and was a member of Big Blue's 1927 NFL Championship club.

Russell Wilson believed in divine timing—says he manifested Ciara before their relationship even started
Russell Wilson reveals he manifested Ciara just days before they met in a surreal twist of fate (Getty Images) While appearing on 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson offered fans a rare glimpse into the deeply personal moments that shaped his life—both on and off the field. The one-hour and twenty-minute episode, packed with revelations, saw Wilson speak candidly about everything from his NFL journey to the fateful prayer that led him to Grammy-winning artist Ciara . Russell Wilson's love story with Ciara began with a prayer—three days before their first encounter Russell Wilson, now 36, opened up about his move to New York in free agency, citing the city's energy and the Giants' vision as major attractions. However, beyond football, it was his love story that stole the spotlight. Speaking about his relationship with Ciara, Wilson took listeners back to a time when he least expected to fall in love. 'I was like, I'm going to be single for 10 years,' he admitted. But everything changed after a sermon by Pastor Judah Smith on 'non-negotiables. ' Inspired, Wilson jotted down five core traits he desired in a life partner. Russell Wilson and Carmelo on WRs Egos, Playing for Mike Tomlin, Jameis Winston Speeches & More 'C[iara] came, just changed everything…I remember three days before I met C, I remember being at church with Pastor Judah [Smith] and I was talking to him and he said something in a sermon. 'The first one was, I want a woman of great faith,' said Wilson. 'She's got just great faith. She's a believer. That was important to me because believing in Jesus, all that meant a lot to me. That's number one thing. Number two was I want a woman who was faithful, not just to me but to anything and everything that she does. The third thing is I want a woman that was going to love me the way my mom loved my dad. Just how my mom, my dad was on his deathbed. Just like she was willing to do anything and everything for us and for him. I think that you want a woman that's got grit and that's going to be there when it's thick, when it's tough, when it's hard and things aren't going well, whatever it may be in life when my dad has leg amputated or whatever it may be.' By March 2016, the couple was engaged, and they tied the knot that July in an intimate ceremony in England. Their relationship, Wilson revealed, is grounded in mutual respect and shared values. 'I think the other thing was I wanted a woman who was independent, didn't have to be Ciara but had the right identity, wanted to volunteer, wanted to be a doctor, wanted to be whatever it is, but at the end of the day had their own identity. Didn't want to just be Russell's wife, but just had their own identity of what they wanted to be and create and do in life,' he added. Today, the power couple is raising four children and continues to inspire with their strong bond and public affection. Wilson also touched on his friendship with teammate Jameis Winston and reflected on his time under Coach Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh—each story weaving into a narrative of growth, faith, and resilience. Image credit: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Instagram Former NBA player Carmelo Anthony has denied that Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade would be anything like the much-criticised trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, after Doncic did so much for the Dallas Mavericks, including taking them to the NBA Finals a year before. Anthony said Antetokounmpo has built the Milwaukee Bucks from the ground up and won't leave just like that. Unlike Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo has reportedly himself requested a trade.
