Carmelo Anthony on Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade: 'He built Milwaukee Bucks from the ground up, you could not just get rid of that'
Former NBA player Carmelo Anthony has denied that Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade would be anything like the much-criticised trade of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, after Doncic did so much for the Dallas Mavericks, including taking them to the NBA Finals a year before.
Anthony said Antetokounmpo has built the Milwaukee Bucks from the ground up and won't leave just like that. Unlike Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo has reportedly himself requested a trade.
Carmelo Anthony says Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade won't be like Luka Doncic's
There are unending rumours surrounding Milwaukee Bucks player Giannis Antetokounmpo's trade ever since the team made an early exit in the playoffs. Talking about his impending trade, former NBA star Carmelo Anthony said during an episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, 'What they're thinking is Giannis ain't going no f**king where.
People that know, know, because this ***** ain't going nowhere. This new Milwaukee 2.0, Giannis built that, he won with that, he built that from the ground up.
New arenas, new environment, everything, Milwaukee has shot up because of that. You could not just get rid of that.'
Comparing Antetokounmpo's trade to that of Doncic, he added, 'You could have a case for Luka. Alright cool, I don't like how he's doing this, you could get away from that.

You sent him to LA, alright cool. You did them a favor, I did my man a favor to be honest with you. That ain't the same with Giannis. Giannis can't go nowhere. If they get rid of Giannis, Milwaukee is taking a 15 year step back.'
Luka Doncic's trade had come as a surprise for him and his fans alike after he was shockingly traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison was heavily slammed on social media for such a move after Doncic played a pivotal role in taking the Mavs to the NBA Finals last season.

New York Knicks reportedly interested in Jason Kidd as next head coach
Knicks exploring Jason Kidd amid head coach search The New York Knicks are conducting internal evaluations of Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd as a potential candidate to replace Tom Thibodeau , according to sources familiar with the team's plans. Kidd, who is currently under contract through the 2025–26 season, has not yet received a formal interview request from the Knicks. Sources indicate that Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison and team governor Patrick Dumont have not made a decision on whether to grant the Knicks permission to speak with Kidd. While Kidd's contract poses a logistical hurdle, NBA precedent allows for trades of coaching rights , which could be an option if both teams agree. The franchise traded five first-round picks to acquire forward Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets in 2024. Currently, the Knicks hold a top-eight-protected 2026 first-round pick from the Washington Wizards and eight second-round selections, including the No. 50 pick in the upcoming draft. The team also retains swap rights in 2026, 2030, 2031, and 2032. Live Events Kidd previously interviewed with the Knicks in 2020 before Thibodeau was ultimately hired. The Hall of Fame point guard, who ended his playing career with the Knicks in 2013, has led the Mavericks to a 54.6 per cent win percentage (179-149) during his four seasons as head coach. Knicks part ways with Thibodeau following playoff exit The Knicks dismissed head coach Tom Thibodeau after their elimination in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers. Thibodeau, who became the fourth-winningest coach in franchise history, led New York to consecutive 50-win seasons for the first time since the 1990s and orchestrated a major second-round playoff upset over the Boston Celtics. Despite his success, Thibodeau faced criticism for heavily relying on his starting lineup, which showed signs of fatigue and underperformance during the latter part of the regular season and into the postseason. Thibodeau's .579 regular season winning percentage is the highest among NBA coaches with at least 300 games who have never reached the Finals, according to ESPN Research. Notably, the franchise traded star guard Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, a deal reportedly made without Kidd's prior input. New York Knicks eye Jason Kidd for head coach role following Tom Thibodeau's surprise firing after playoff run
(Image Source - Getty Images) As an unexpected change, New York Knicks authorities are said to be in talks with Jason Kidd, head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, over their coaching position. Just a few days ago, the Knicks decided to part with Tom Thibodeau, even though they brought the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years. This move shows that the Knicks want to improve their prospects of winning a championship and add Kidd to their team with Jalen Brunson. New York Knicks' bold coaching pursuit targets Jason Kidd After the surprising firing of head coach Tom Thibodeau, the New York Knicks are said to be looking to get the green light from the Dallas Mavericks to chat with Jason Kidd about their head coaching position. NBA insider Marc Stein has confirmed that the Knicks intend to officially ask for an interview with Kidd, who has been leading the Mavericks since 2021. Kidd enjoyed a special connection with the Knicks — he ended his long-standing professional career with New York during the 2012–13 season. In that year, the Knicks had a 54–28 record which was their first 50-win season since the 1999–2000 season. Besides, playing with the Mavericks helped Kidd guide Jalen Brunson, who plays a big role for the Knicks today. If Kidd and Brunson work together in New York, it adds an unexpected factor to the team's search for a coach. The move to part ways with Tom Thibodeau has left fans and analysts questioning the decision. He led the team to a commendable 51–31 record and a significant playoff journey, yet he was let go after five seasons with the Knicks. This action highlights the organization's high standards and their commitment to pursuing an NBA title. During Thibodeau's tenure, there were major improvements, especially two seasons with over 50 victories and a win over the Boston Celtics in the playoffs. Still, different considerations within the organization and the feeling that things needed to change may have led to the choice for new leaders. With a rich background, Jason Kidd is a valuable asset. He was a Hall of Fame point guard before stepping into coaching with the Brooklyn Nets in 2013. He also served as an assistant for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers. Under his watch, the Mavericks hit the NBA Finals in 2024, highlighting his knack for steering teams through the playoffs. Also Read: Stephen A. Smith claps back at Kevin Durant as NBA All-Star Game debate intensifies over lack of player effort The New York Knicks find themselves at a turning point, with their hunt for a coach possibly leading them back to a familiar name: Jason Kidd. His experience, ability to lead, and relationship with key players such as Jalen Brunson make him an attractive option to help the Knicks reach new levels. As the franchise tackles this important decision, the result of their chase for Kidd could have a major effect on their future in the next few seasons.
