Kunak Council records slightly higher revenue

KUNAK: The Kunak District Council (MDKNK) recorded a revenue of RM8,893,573 and total expenditure of RM8,748,710 last year. Kunak District Officer Majaran Osman, who is also MDKNK Chairman, said with a surplus of RM144,863, MDKNK needs to continue increasing momentum to ensure its development programmes and services are enhanced and providing more benefits to the people. Speaking at the Oath Taking Ceremony and Handover of Appointment Letters for the District Council members for the 2025-2027 term, he urged them to equip themselves with knowledge and understanding of the functions, roles and duties. 'The appointment of a District Council member is intended to assist the Local Authority (PBT) in making policies, planning and monitoring the implementation of development programmes. 'Council members are the frontline and therefore understand their roles and functions, in addition to upholding integrity, transparency and public accountability in an effort to bring about changes in the administration and management of the PBT,' said Majaran. MDKNK was established on June 1, 1994, indicating it has spanned over three decades, and demands that every action and plan in the district has a positive and viable impact. Currently, its rating area is 2.0639 square kilometres, while the total area of the Kunak district covers 27.5186 square kilometres. Kunak Assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif is optimistic that those appointed as Council members can contribute ideas and energy for the development of the district in line with the 'Kunak must progress' mission. A total of 18 Council members were appointed and received their letters at the ceremony. Two of them were absent. Meanwhile, Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih urged the District Council members to be creative in their efforts to assist the (PBT in ensuring that the planning and development aspects implemented can provide effective services to the people. He said as appointed Council members, they have a significant trust and responsibility, which is to assist the PBT in planning, formulating policies and delivering the best services to the people. 'Council members need to play a more creative role in the planning and development of the PBT. Participate enthusiastically and consistently in any activities, especially in committee meetings as stipulated in the Standing Orders of the Kunak District Council. 'One of the duties of Council members is to ensure that the PBT's by-laws are used as the main basis and guide by the Council in resolving any problems faced,' he said in his speech text read by Norazlinah, who represented him. Isnin said as a link between the Government and the people through the PBT, Council members must carry out their roles and responsibilities with integrity and authority in decision-making, being trustworthy, transparent and fair in assisting the PBT in resolving issues involving the people. He also urged the Council members to put forward high-impact ideas, especially in the formulation of policies at the Kunak district level. Palm opens lower on weaker rival oils, crude oil prices
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian palm oil futures fell for a third straight session on Wednesday, pressured by weaker rival edible oils and crude oil prices. The benchmark palm oil contract for July delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange slid RM54, or 1.37 per cent, to RM3,889 (US$900.23) a metric ton in early trade. FUNDAMENTALS Dalian's most-active soyoil contract fell 0.36 per cent, while its palm oil contract shed 0.81 per cent. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade were down 0.49 per cent. Palm oil tracks price movements of rival edible oils, as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. Oil prices edged lower as US President Donald Trump's erratic tariff policies raised concerns about weakening global economic growth and fuel demand. Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. The ringgit, palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.18 per cent against the US dollar, making the commodity more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies. Indonesia lowered its crude palm oil reference price to US$924.46 per ton for May, a trade regulation showed. European Union soybean imports in the 2024/25 season that started in July had reached 11.46 million tons by April 27, up 8 per cent from a year earlier, while palm oil imports were at 2.37 million tons, down 19 per cent, data by the European Commission showed. Palm oil may revisit its April 21 low of RM3,863 per metric ton, as it has overcome the last barrier at RM3,931, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said. Shares struggled for direction and oil prices slid as relief over a potential easing of global trade tensions was offset by a worsening economic outlook and dour signals from corporates swept up by Trump's tariffs.
