Kunak Council records slightly higher revenue

KUNAK: The Kunak District Council (MDKNK) recorded a revenue of RM8,893,573 and total expenditure of RM8,748,710 last year. Kunak District Officer Majaran Osman, who is also MDKNK Chairman, said with a surplus of RM144,863, MDKNK needs to continue increasing momentum to ensure its development programmes and services are enhanced and providing more benefits to the people. Speaking at the Oath Taking Ceremony and Handover of Appointment Letters for the District Council members for the 2025-2027 term, he urged them to equip themselves with knowledge and understanding of the functions, roles and duties. 'The appointment of a District Council member is intended to assist the Local Authority (PBT) in making policies, planning and monitoring the implementation of development programmes. 'Council members are the frontline and therefore understand their roles and functions, in addition to upholding integrity, transparency and public accountability in an effort to bring about changes in the administration and management of the PBT,' said Majaran. MDKNK was established on June 1, 1994, indicating it has spanned over three decades, and demands that every action and plan in the district has a positive and viable impact. Currently, its rating area is 2.0639 square kilometres, while the total area of the Kunak district covers 27.5186 square kilometres. Kunak Assemblywoman Datuk Norazlinah Arif is optimistic that those appointed as Council members can contribute ideas and energy for the development of the district in line with the 'Kunak must progress' mission. A total of 18 Council members were appointed and received their letters at the ceremony. Two of them were absent. Meanwhile, Local Government and Housing Assistant Minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih urged the District Council members to be creative in their efforts to assist the (PBT in ensuring that the planning and development aspects implemented can provide effective services to the people. He said as appointed Council members, they have a significant trust and responsibility, which is to assist the PBT in planning, formulating policies and delivering the best services to the people. 'Council members need to play a more creative role in the planning and development of the PBT. Participate enthusiastically and consistently in any activities, especially in committee meetings as stipulated in the Standing Orders of the Kunak District Council. 'One of the duties of Council members is to ensure that the PBT's by-laws are used as the main basis and guide by the Council in resolving any problems faced,' he said in his speech text read by Norazlinah, who represented him. Isnin said as a link between the Government and the people through the PBT, Council members must carry out their roles and responsibilities with integrity and authority in decision-making, being trustworthy, transparent and fair in assisting the PBT in resolving issues involving the people. He also urged the Council members to put forward high-impact ideas, especially in the formulation of policies at the Kunak district level. SIBU (June 7): Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has distributed RM147,000 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants to 14 recipients, comprising non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and associations within the Bawang Assan state constituency. This marks the first group of recipients to receive allocations for the year through the Bawang Assan Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Service Centre. 'We have over 100 recipients in total, with an overall allocation of RM2 million. The remaining grants will be distributed next week,' said Wong. He noted that the allocation is part of his ongoing effort to support community-based initiatives and welfare programmes, and that recipients who did not receive funds in this round may reapply in subsequent phases. Wong, who also serves as PDP senior vice president, stated that he receives an annual allocation of RM8 million from the Sarawak government for development and welfare initiatives in his constituency. This includes RM2 million under the Minor Rural Project (MRP), RM5 million for the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), and RM1 million for the Sarawak Poor Housing Improvement Programme (PPRMS). He added that Bawang Assan is home to approximately 30,000 voters, with a demographic breakdown of 54 per cent Chinese and 46 per cent Bumiputera, of which around 45 per cent are Iban. 'We will do our best to be fair. Every year, we ensure these allocations reach those in need,' he emphasised. Saudi Arabia invites Malaysia to assist in organising Expo 2030 Riyadh

OSAKA (June 1): The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has extended an invitation to Malaysia to assist in organising Expo 2030 in Riyadh. According to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, this was proposed to him from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ambassador to Japan, Dr Ghazi Faisal Binzagr, during his visit to the Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. 'They want to invite Malaysia to be involved together for Expo 2030, which they will host in Riyadh. 'This is an opportunity for us (Malaysia). It means we are recognised. 'So, later I will bring this back to discuss with the Cabinet, to see how we can explore what are the areas that we can work with them on this,' he told reporters during a press conference after attending a dinner with the Malaysian Diaspora in Osaka on Sunday night. Malaysia Secures RM8 Bln In Potential Investments At Expo 2025 Osaka

From Karina Imran OSAKA, May 31 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has successfully secured more than RM8 billion in potential investments and signed 20 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) through its participation at Expo 2025 Osaka, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation and chairperson of Malaysia's National Organising Committee for Expo 2025, said this achievement, involving 101 companies, represents 61.54 per cent of the overall RM13 billion target that was previously set. 'I am confident that with our coming initiatives over the next four months, we will not only surpass our target but also unlock new opportunities for Malaysians. The success of our participation will pave the way for job creation while further strengthening bilateral ties with Japan and other global partners. 'So together, we reaffirm Malaysia's role as a trusted global partner in shaping a future built on innovation and collaboration,' he said at the press conference after officiating the opening ceremony of the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan, today. Also present at the official opening ceremony were Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong, Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan Datuk Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany and Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan. In addition to the digital economy, Fadillah highlighted the green economy, Japanese technologies, and global participation in Expo 2025 as key opportunities for Malaysia to explore. He noted that these opportunities position Sarawak not only as a hub for energy, particularly green energy, leveraging its hydropower resources, but also as a central player in Malaysia's Hydrogen Economy Roadmap and Energy Transition Roadmap.
