Top comedian sparks concern as he cancels gig hours before he's due onstage

COMEDIAN Jason Manford left fans concerned after he cancelled his gig just hours before he was due onstage. The funnyman, 44, was set to perform as part of his A Manford All Seasons tour in Hertfordshire on Wednesday. 3 3 But Jason announced that he had been forced to pull out due to ill health. Organisers confirmed that those who purchased tickets would be able to attend an upcoming show in October. They took to his X account just hours before the show, writing: "We regret to inform you that tonight's performance of A Manford All Seasons at The Alban Arena has been unexpectedly cancelled due to Jason Manford being unwell and will now be rescheduled to Mon 20th Oct 2025. "Thank you for understanding, we apologise for any inconvenience caused." The post appeared to be shared by Jason's team rather than himself, which sparked further concern from fans, with one writing: "Get well soon but perhaps stop burning the candle at both ends." A second commented: "Get well soon Jase, take it easy fella." "Sorry to hear this Jason. Wish you better. I was really looking forward to it," a third said. Last month, Jason was left utterly furious after he was forced to share a hotel bedroom with his pal - despite booking two rooms. The touring comedian blasted the chain as "naughty" after learning they had overbooked - and he would have to double up. The pair ran into trouble after arriving late at Village Hotel in Bournemouth - and learning that his room had been re-sold. The 8 Out of 10 Cats team captain blasted the chain's policy to sell-on rooms during busy periods. In a video, Jason said: "So we got to our hotel tonight in Bournemouth and it's fully booked. "We were like, 'fine. So that's good, well done you'. "They went, 'No, no, as in like without you'. So me and Steve, obviously we're in separate rooms. "And then we just discovered that basically if it's fully booked it means that, you have to share." Laughing out loud, he sarcastically joked: "I mean we spent all day together. "Oh, well, at least we've got a nice view of the car park!" Fortunately Jason and Steve had booked two separate rooms, meaning one was still available for them to have some welcome shut-eye. However, the comedian 's gripe with the hotel didn't end there as he revealed the manager had been in touch the next day, asking him to take down his video. But Jason stuck his heels in and refused. He shared in an Instagram video: "They asked me to take the video down, politely, but I'm not going to because I think it's important that people know that this is happening for one. "What if it was a wedding or you had kids with you or a million other situations that were much more serious than mine. "It's wrong, fundamentally it's wrong." Jason is in the middle of his nationwide tour, A Manford All Seasons, across the UK and Ireland 3

Tiff Stevenson explores sex and politics at Edinburgh Fringe

The actress and comedian brings her new standup show, Post Coital, to the Monkey Barrel Hive from August 1 till August 24. The set weaves politics with modern existential anxieties, asking questions like how long a woman must stay sexy whilst positing that the UK Government must be on Ozempic since 'the economy is looking snatched'. Stevenson – who has appeared on shows like Mock the Week, 8 Out Of 10 Cats and the Bafta-winning series People Just Do Nothing – spoke with The National ahead of her return to the Fringe. READ MORE: Gogglebox axes only Scottish cast members after 3 years on TV screens 'It's a festival of ideas as much as it is art … and it's just the most exciting and creative place to be for the month of August', she said of her upcoming return to Edinburgh, where she has been amongst the best reviewed acts five times previously. 'There's still that feeling that when you pull in the train at Waverley station, you get a feeling of sickness in the pit of your stomach. You're like, 'oh, it's about to happen' – it's a mix of nervousness and excitement.' With this year's Fringe taking place in a political landscape which becomes more and more tumultuous by the day, Stevenson believes it's still important to be able to joke about serious topics. 'The main thing we have to do is err on the side of funny – lead with funny first and make people think second, because I think people now more than ever get turned off by thinking', she explained. 'As a left-wing person, we constantly focus on the minute differences that we have, rather than coming together as a whole in order to kind of make a cohesive change. 'These little, kind of micro-arguments that we have are not necessarily progressive. We have to be able to have difficult conversations, and we have to be able to dip into the grey areas to be able to try and make some headway. 'Comedy should be about making people think or showing them how you think and how you've got there, and they go away and ask some questions – no one wants to feel like they're being preached to.' She told The National that the show came from thinking about all of the 'wild and wacky ideas' that spring to mind once 'sex is out of the way'. (Image: Steve Ullathorne)'Maybe the UN should only meet after they've had a good shag', she joked. 'I feel like there's a lot of pent-up aggression in the world that could be released in a slightly healthier way, rather than firing penis shaped missiles and rockets. 'It feels very much like we're on the brink of World War Three at the moment, so I will be talking a bit about that in the show. There will be a combination, if I get it right, of personal, political and social themes.' Although Stevenson is English, both her father and her husband are from Scotland. She said her husband Paul, the director of Post Coital, keeps an eye on the 'sensibility' of things. 'We make sure we're not just plonking a show in Edinburgh that has nothing to do with Scotland or the people of Scotland', she said. In past shows, the comedian has touched on several slightly taboo subjects, like ageing in the public eye and our unhealthy dependency on the internet. Stevenson touched on the pressure of maintaining an eternal youth whilst speaking frankly about the lack of information and research on one of the biggest biological changes that women experience: the menopause. She said: 'I put a video out a few months ago about a perimenopausal vampire and people were saying 'Oh my God, you're putting yourself in an age bracket if you do that'. READ MORE: Study finds a third of boys believe revealing outfits are 'asking for trouble' 'I don't even know if I am menopausal and the reason that I don't know is because there's no information. 'All women have is asking other women, 'Have you had this?' 'Is this happening to you?' 'Do you feel angry all the time? I feel angry' and so on. 'That is a failing of all the medical institutions that there's no information available for women apart from us talking to each other, because the only the research only goes into illnesses and drug trials with men as the standard. 'So, it's hard, trying to understand the phases of life and what we go through without thinking 'this is everything and this totally defines me', as opposed to knowing that it's a part of life, and a part that we all move through.' Tickets for Post Coital are available through the official Edinburgh Fringe website. Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Comedian Reginald D Hunter appears in court over social media posts

Comedian Reginald D Hunter has appeared in court over alleged antisemitic social media posts. The 56-year-old US stand-up is accused of three counts of sending an offensive communication on three different occasions – on August 24, September 10 and September 11 last year – to Heidi Bachram on X, formerly Twitter. He spoke to confirm his personal details when he appeared at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday for the private prosecution, which is being brought by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) charity. It is alleged Hunter sent a computer-generated sexual image to Ms Bachram in August last year, with the charges claiming it was 'grossly offensive'. No indication of plea was given and Hunter was bailed to return for a hearing at the same court on November 14. Deputy district judge Louise Balmain told him: 'There is going to be an initial legal argument as to whether the case should proceed and that will take place on November 14.' The judge told Hunter to attend that hearing as he will learn if the case goes ahead and whether he will have to enter a plea. Hunter, whose address was given as care of Kalber Struckley solicitors, was released on unconditional bail. Hunter regularly tours the UK and has appeared on comedy panel shows Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Have I Got News For You and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. In an Instagram post published last week, Hunter said the CAA is 'dragging me to court for jokes online'. Hunter also declared he is 'fighting a private prosecution for my comedy' in a crowdfunding appeal launched to help cover legal fees. A total of £19,836 towards a £50,000 target had been pledged by the time he made his first appearance in court on Monday. The crowdfunder, aimed at raising money towards specialist counsel and any appeals procedures and court fees, states: 'Born in Georgia in 1969, Reginald has been a force in UK comedy since 1992. 'Known for his biting social commentary, he has appeared on Have I Got News For You, 8 Out of 10 Cats and was Perrier-nominated at Edinburgh Festival. 'Reginald challenges audiences on racism, politics, and religion. He is staunchly anti-War and has publicly criticised Israel in the past.' The CAA describes itself as an organisation of volunteers which works to 'expose and counter antisemitism through education and zero-tolerance enforcement of the law'. Stephen Silverman, the group's director of investigations and enforcement, previously said: 'This is one of a number of private prosecutions that we are bringing, and there will be more to say on the case in due course.'
