Rob Lowe shares vivid memories of his grandmother Mim's breast cancer battle
Rob Lowe has shared vivid memories of his grandmother Mim's battle with breast cancer. The actor, 61, known for his role in '9-1-1: Lone Star', shared a close bond with his grandmother during his childhood, and has said his grandmum's health fight became a pivotal experience that would shape his life and the way he approaches cancer awareness today. He told People: 'My memory of it is like it happened yesterday because of this sort of uproar it caused in our family. In those days, the odds were not good. I 100 percent remember our family feeling lost, wishing that there was more that could be done.' Rob affectionately refers to his grandmother as 'my beloved,' and recounts the profound impact her illness had on their family. As Mim's condition worsened, doctors told her to 'get her affairs in order' in a grim diagnosis that devastated the family. But just as it seemed there were no options left, Mim's fate took a dramatic turn when she was accepted into a clinical trial for breast cancer treatments. Rob also explained how the clinical trial changed everything for his grandmother, saying: 'There were multiple times where she had run out of options and just at that moment there was a clinical trial (that) changed the course of her cancer journey.' Mim's survival story became a beacon of hope for Rob and his family. The actor said: 'She survived and thrived longer than anyone with her type of cancer in those days.' He added Mim's success in the trial not only defied the odds but also paved the way for treatments that would later become standard care. Inspired by his grandmother's resilience, Rob has partnered with Eli Lilly and Company to promote awareness about the importance of clinical trials into cancer treatments. Despite the transformative role these trials played in Mim's survival, only seven percent of cancer patients in the United States participate in them. Rob hopes to change that, and added: 'My great grandmother, my grandmother Mim, and my mother all had breast cancer and they helped raise me. 'They raised me and now, in their memory, I can raise awareness about the importance of doing clinical trials.' Rob stressed every cancer patient's journey is different, but said the key to finding the right treatment is taking the initiative to ask about options. He said: 'You're only going to know that if you actually take the initiative and ask.'

Don's a devoted husband and family man but he has his secrets.' Though an official premiere date has not yet been set, 9-1-1: Nashville has received a straight-to-series order and is expected to air sometime in the 2025–2026 TV season. It will not have a backdoor pilot in the current season of 9-1-1, nor is it expected to feature any characters from either the flagship series or its short-lived Fox spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star. Capshaw scrubbed in for more than 200 episodes of Grey's Anatomy, between her 2009 debut and most recent appearance in 2024. Additional TV credits include roles on Bones, ER, The L Word, The Practice and Tell Me Lies, among other series. Neither ABC nor 20th Television have confirmed Capshaw's casting. '9-1-1' Fans, We Have Exciting News About the Latest Spinoff Series
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." Back in 2018, fans were introduced to the world of 9-1-1. Following the lives of the first responders working in a firehouse and dispatch center in Los Angeles, people couldn't get enough of the drama and danger the show provided. With more and more people tuning in every week, it was clear that co-creators Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear had hit the procedural drama jackpot. Fast-forward, and the original series turned into a popular TV franchise with the addition of 9-1-1: Lone Star. While folks were ecstatic about a new spinoff, both shows came with their own ups and downs. 9-1-1 eventually moved to ABC from Fox, while 9-1-1: Lone Star ended in February 2025 after five seasons on the air. But this is far from the end for new additions to the franchise. Thanks to an announcement made by Deadline in February 2025, 9-1-1 is once again adding a new TV show to its on-screen empire. Titled 9-1-1: Nashville, the show already received the green light to film episodes for ABC. And even though there aren't many details out about it, we did do some digging to find out what's in store for the brand-new series: At the moment, Ryan and Tim are keeping things mum about the premise of 9-1-1: Nashville. But given how both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star followed the lives of the first responders working in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas, it's highly likely the new spinoff will follow suit in Nashville. Despite not knowing the full details behind 9-1-1: Nashville, Tim did tell TVLine that music will play a big role in the show. Given how Nashville is considered "Music City" and it has a wealth of artists making music there, it's also likely one of the first responders may know a thing or two about music as well. And if that wasn't enough, fans may have thoughts about one other detail in 9-1-1: Nashville. While fans of both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star hoped some characters could eventually move over to the new spinoff, Tim revealed it's not necessarily part of the new show's equation. "I have no current plans for that," 9-1-1 showrunner Tim Minear recently told TVLine. "But it's not impossible!"As of right now, there is no official date for when 9-1-1: Nashville will premiere on ABC. But when Ryan spoke out about the new spinoff, he told Variety in October 2024 that he and Tim "hope to get on the air next fall." If that timeframe holds up, there's a chance 9-1-1: Nashville could air on TV as early as fall 2025. But since it's a brand-new series, there's always a chance it could be held until midseason, so that it can gain traction from audiences without all the pressure that comes with the fall premieres. We'll just have to wait and see! When the time comes for folks to watch 9-1-1: Nashville, they can watch the series on ABC. What's more, viewers will also be able to watch the drama on the ABC website. But make sure you keep your TV provider info with you, since you may need it before you start watching. Additionally, if you have streaming sites like , , or Sling, you'll be able to watch 9-1-1: Nashville in real-time. Be aware that you'll need to have accounts made for these sites ahead of time, should you go this route. While 9-1-1: Nashville will air on ABC, fans will also be able to watch new episodes on Hulu the next day. If you haven't made an account yet, plans for the streamer begin at just $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. Once you're all set, you can watch the show on Hulu's website or on the Hulu app. You Might Also Like 67 Best Gifts for Women That'll Make Her Smile The Best Pillows for Every Type of Sleeper
