Ulster Rally boss reveals why joining prestigious European series would be so special for showpiece
Representatives from the FIA, motorsport's governing body, are travelling to Newry next month where they will meet with event officials, including Clerk of the Course Wayne Turkington. If all goes to plan, and the Northern Ireland Motor Club showpiece ticks all the boxes, the understanding is it will become a round of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship. The Championship is touted as the 'ultimate celebration of rallying's glorious past', with each decade from the Sixties right up to the Noughties represented by an array of exotic machinery from Porsche's 911 Carrera and BMW's M3 E30 to Ford's endearing Escort Mk2. It comprises 10 rounds in 2025, with these running between March and November and visiting several countries, including Spain, Czech Republic, Austria, Finland and Portugal. Points-scoring rounds typically comprise 90 competitive miles, with crews tackling these over the course of one-and-a-half-days — a formula that works for the Ulster Rally. If Turkington and his team can bank a slot on the FIA EHRC calendar for 2026 it would have added significance as the Ulster Rally celebrates its 50th anniversary next August. 'We know the eyes of the motorsport world will be on us when the FIA representatives arrive, and we are determined to show that the Ulster Rally is ready to take its place on the European stage,' said Turkington. 'Securing a spot on the FIA European Historic Rally Championship would be a big endorsement of the event's quality and illustrious history. 'To bring the FIA European Historic Rally Championship to Northern Ireland in the same year that the Ulster Rally celebrates its golden anniversary would be incredibly special. 'It would be a fitting tribute to everyone who has contributed to the event over the past five decades, from volunteers and competitors to sponsors and spectators.' Plans for the 49th instalment of the Modern Tyres Ulster Rally are well underway, with one title potentially set to be decided on the weekend of August 15th and 16th. A win would see the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship title return to Callum Devine and Noel O'Sullivan who have been in imperious form since April. The Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 team-mates have triumphed on three of the four rounds they have started, including the Circuit of Ireland Rally, Killarney Rally of the Lakes, and Donegal International Rally.

Another Round Of Price Hikes Instantly Makes Every Porsche More Expensive
Another Round Of Price Hikes Instantly Makes Every Porsche More Expensive originally appeared on Autoblog. Porsche 911 Prices Have Risen Drastically In Recent Times Porsche has never been a brand that tries to sell to everyone, but after the second round of price hikes for the 911 in four months, even fewer individuals can become customers. First spotted by Road & Track, the 911 range has been hit with prices of between 2.3 and 3.6 percent. As a result, the cheapest 911 Carrera now exceeds $130,000, and by a significant margin. For the record, Porsche updated the 911 range in March, and at the time, the base 911 was hit with an increase of almost 7%. While the 2025 911 Carrera started at $122,095 before a $1,995 destination charge, the 2026 911 Carrera was pushed to $129,950. Rubbing salt in the wound is that the destination charge was also raised to $2,250 for all 2026 models, but apparently, that wasn't enough of an increase either. New Porsche Pricing Affects Everything View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article After the previous round of price adjustments added nearly $8,000 to the price of a base 911, the new price for 2026 tacks another $2,350 on the base model, which now starts at $132,300, before a new destination charge of $2,350 (a increase of $100). At the opposite end of the range are the 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 with Touring Package, which each cost $230,500 before options. That's an increase of over $8,000, but unfortunately, the 911 is not the only model line seeing increases, with every model now more expensive than before. New Price (+ dest.) Old Price (+ dest.) Total Difference 2025 718 Cayman $75,400 (+$1,995) $72,800 (+$1,995) +$2,600 2026 911 Carrera $132,300 (+$2,350) $129,950 (+$2,250) +$2,450 2026 Cayenne $88,800 (+$2,350) $86,545 (+$2,250) +$2,355 2026 Macan $64,600 (+$2,350) $63,100 (+$2,250) +$1,600 2026 Panamera $110,100 (+$2,350) $106,300 (+$2,250) +$3,900 2026 Taycan $103,900 (+$2,350) $100,300 (+$2,250) +$3,700 Porsche Has No Choice But To Raise PricesIn a statement, Porsche spokesperson Frank Wiesmann explained the decision to R&T: "With our customers front of mind, we keep a regular watch on market conditions, absorbing costs where we can and making adjustments only when it's absolutely necessary to do so." He also confirmed that some options on the Porsche USA configurator have risen in price, and while it's disappointing for those who have to shell out more, it's not unexpected. With Chinese sales figures declining, EV demand proving sluggish, and new tariff policies impacting U.S. imports, Porsche warned that it could lose up to $2.3 billion a year if it didn't raise prices. With new 30 percent tariffs now being discussed for the European Union (and Mexico), more price increases may well come into effect before the end of the year. Porsche will not be producing cars in the U.S. because that would be even more costly to its precipitous business model, so if you want a 911 for less than $130k, you'll have to explore the used market. Iconic 1980s Porsche left abandoned in a barn for 14 years sells for whopping £76,000 – three times its value
AN ICONIC 1980s Porsche left abandoned in a barn for 14 years has sold for over £76,000, which was over triple its estimate. The dust-covered 911 3.2 Carrera Sport coupé was put into storage by its owner in 2011 after being bought in 2002. 5 5 5 Its three litre engine produced 231bhp with a top speed of over 150mph. And it was capable of doing 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds. According to records, the car only covered 476 miles in the five years before it went into the barn. It was owned by a busy solicitor near Northampton who barely drove it for years, as reported by Luxury Auto News. Ahead of its auction its listing said: "The car presented here is a C16 1989-model example from the final year of 3.2 production before the introduction of the 964. "It is a Carrera 3.2 Sport which was a UK -only model and came factory-fitted with a black lip front spoiler, a rear whale tail rear spoiler, sports seats and Bilstein Sport shock absorbers. "It was optioned with a sunroof and the sought-after paint colour of silver metallic." The iconic 911 was first registered in May 1989 and had five previous owners before being snapped up in October 2002, the listing read. It added: "This 911 was first registered in May 1989 and passed through five keepers before being purchased by our vendor in October 2002. The listing added: "We believe he bought it from Autofarm of Bicester, Oxfordshire. Remastered Porsche so rare only 25 were ever made could be yours for eye-popping £850K – with 4L engine & 435 horsepower " MOT records indicate minimal usage - just 476 miles covered in five years. "This is wholly in keeping with what we know about our vendor, who was a very much a car enthusiast, having owned all sorts of interesting cars from Jaguars to 2CVs, but who was also a very busy solicitor with little time to enjoy his Porsche. "At some point in 2011, he drove the car into his barn adjoining his stone Northamptonshire house and there it has sat ever since." Despite being abandoned, the barn's warm, dry air helped preserve the rare car remarkably well. "Its condition when it was put away must have been exceptional and very much in-keeping with a minimally used 40,000-mile 911, with original features and components still in place. "Bodywork panels, paintwork, carpets, headlining and factory-finishes all appear to be original - and a jack and toolkit complete the picture. "The car is a feast of detail for any Porsche enthusiast, preserved in a manner that they will really appreciate. "Sadly the owner passed away in early 2025 and it falls to the family, particularly his son, to find it a new home. "This fantastic car is sensibly guided and will obviously require close inspection and a thorough recommissioning before starting/driving but it offers huge potential. "Cars built from September 1986 onwards were fitted with the more user-friendly G50 Getrag gearbox. "But all 3.2 Carreras feature galvanised bodies, which together with Porsche's legendary build quality, ensure that these classics are long lasting." It was expected to fetch around £25,000 when sold on Saturday by Iconic Auctioneers in Northampton. A spokesperson said: "It was driven into a barn for storage in 2011 and offered exactly as found, dust and all. "It tripled its estimate amid a bidding frenzy. "With 33 registered telephone bidders as well as numerous bidders in the room and online, bidding raced to £76,500. "This wonderfully preserved G50‑gearbox example that remains largely original, obviously captured bidders' imaginations with its untouched state and clear potential." It comes after astonishing images showed an abandoned graveyard of vintage cars and fire engines left to rot. And a classic car dealership worth a whopping £200,000 has been discovered - after sitting in the dark for 20 years. 5 5

Volkswagen shareholders demand ‘part-time CEO' Oliver Blume finally drop his side job running Porsche
Three years into his dual assignment, Blume is facing increasing pressure to focus on one of his two posts given a perceived conflict of interest and mounting problems in China. "It's been clear since the beginning that the dual role is not intended to last forever," responds Blume, adding the decision in the end rests with the respective boards. Much like Tesla, Volkswagen is managed by a CEO that splits up his week running different companies. And just like Elon Musk, VW's head honcho is similarly under pressure by shareholders to devote more of his attention to his main car business. While the Tesla CEO already pledged to spend more time at Tesla, Volkswagen's Oliver Blume still has no clear plan for his succession at luxury sports car maker Porsche three years into his term. Elevated to the position after the board sacked his Austrian predecessor, Herbert Diess, in the summer of 2022, the native German has opted to keep both roles as agreed with both companies' boards. 'Volkswagen has in Mr. Blume only a part-time CEO, who finds himself neck deep in problems,' Janne Werning, head of ESG Capital Markets & Stewardship at Union Investment, said at the company's virtual annual meeting on Friday. In a company statement sent to Fortune, Blume indicated the decision lay with each respective non-executive board of directors as to how long the current structure is considered advantageous. 'I really enjoy both roles and aim to fulfil each to 100 percent,' he said in the statement, 'but it has been clear since the beginning that the dual role is not intended to last forever.' Blume pointed additionally to the recent reshuffling in four key c-suite positions at Porsche as another reason why his leadership at the sports car maker is still needed. The manufacturer of the 911 Carrera this year is swapping out its chief financial officer and head of sales and marketing and appointed a new chief of procurement and personnel boss. Blume's dual role became increasingly controversial after Volkswagen raised capital from investors as part of a record IPO of Porsche. With VW primarily seen as a carmaker and Porsche positioned as a pure luxury brand, the two appealed to distinct groups of shareholders. This creates a conflict of interest as different fiduciary constituencies vie for Blume's limited time. 'You need both hands on the steering wheel, and currently that's not the case,' said Ingo Speich, head of corporate governance at Deka Invest, at Volkswagen's AGM on Friday. Hendrik Schmidt, a corporate governance expert with fund manager DWS, pointed out Blume is the only CEO to run two companies listed on the blue chip DAX index at the same time—'a situation unique in the German corporate landscape.' The conflict over the two roles isn't helped by the difficult situation that Volkswagen and Porsche are currently facing, particularly in China. It has gone from being a market where profitable growth seemed limitless to one where the domestic competition is quickly replacing non-Chinese brands, especially among younger consumers. While Blume's Porsche enjoyed all-time high records in vehicle sales across four out of its five main global regions last year, the story was a very different one in China. 'The environment has changed in the shortest of time periods, the market has completely collapsed. Our volumes are now only a third of what we had just two years ago,' he told Automobilwoche in an interview published on Monday. Even Volkswagen Group's Chinese joint ventures—which manufacture locally using domestic suppliers—have failed to transfer their dominance in combustion engines to EVs and plug-in hybrid carmakers. Despite their 22% share of the former, they do not even make the top 10 in the latter. The brutal price competition across the industry now means the JVs have seen their proportionate operating income steadily shrink to just €1.74 billion last year versus €4.4 billion five years earlier, according to company accounts. Blume's answer has been a new groupwide strategy to match competitors, accelerating VW's efforts to what he himself on Friday called 'China speed'. This story was originally featured on
