Marcos tells PNP to ensure immediate response to 911 calls
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. directed the Philippine National Police Tuesday to ensure that someone will respond to calls in the country's latest 9-1-1 response technology.
During the 124th Police Service Anniversary, Marcos said that through the revitalized Emergency 911 Hotline, the police force responded to thousands of emergency calls, from police assistance to police interventions as well as search and rescue.
''However, the challenge now is to ensure that—rain or shine, during ordinary days and more so, in times of crisis—there are people who will be ready to answer our people's call for help. This is how we rebuild the trust that the police will come no matter what time, no matter what the circumstance is, they will arrive,'' Marcos said in his speech.
''We owe our people a system that they can rely on,'' the President added.
The new 9-1-1 system is from a technology provider that won the bid for a contract worth over P1.4 billion, the police said. Among the features of the latest system is the capability to detect the location of the caller.
