Von Miller wants to pass DeMarcus Ware on all-time NFL sacks list
Von Miller wants to pass DeMarcus Ware on all-time NFL sacks list Show Caption Hide Caption Five NFL games we can't wait to watch in the 2025 season The NFL schedule for the 2025-2026 season has been released. Here are a few games on our must-watch list. Von Miller is looking to move up the NFL's all-time sacks list in 2025. There's only one problem – he still doesn't have a team. Miller has been on the free agent market since the Buffalo Bills released him on March 9, but is still eyeing an opportunity on the field next season rather than head for retirement. In an interview with 9NEWS in Denver, Miller spoke about his playing career's future and why there is still one more thing to accomplish. The MVP of Super Bowl 50 ranks 25th on the all-time sack leaders list with 129.5. His former teammate, DeMarcus Ware, checks in at 13th with 138.5. When asked if he has plans to retire, Miller made it clear that passing Ware is a goal that he has to reach. "No, because I need (9.5) more sacks to pass DeMarcus," Miller said, via 9NEWS' Mike Klis. Despite racking up plenty of accolades over the years, having that edge over Ware is enough to keep the 36-year-old going, among other things. "That's one of them," Miller said. "If I had 140 sacks? I could retire. But me and DeMarcus, we spent a lot of time together in the offseason. He plays a lot of golf. Whenever I'm done playing football, I'll probably be right there with him playing golf. I just can't let him have that … I've already played three more years than he's played so I at least have to get him on total sacks. That's one of the personal goals that I have." Klis noted that Miller also wants his two sons, Valor, 4, and Victory, 2, to be able to appreciate seeing their father play. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Miller has been named to the Pro Bowl eight times, an All-Pro three times and the 2011 Defensive Rookie of the Year. He's likely to be a first ballot Hall of Fame entrant when the cleats are officially hung up. That seems like it'll have to wait for another day though. Miller believes still has more to give. Now he just has to find a team willing to let him give it.

Teen missing more than 4 months found hundreds of miles away in sex offender's home
A 16-year-old Missouri girl who had been missing since December was found alive nearly 700 miles away in a registered sex offender's home. Officers from the Fort Collins Police Department were led to a Colorado home April 15 after receiving a tip through the missing teen's Instagram account, which had been dormant since she was reported missing Dec. 6, 2024, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by 9NEWS. On April 16, investigators determined her account was accessed from an IP address at a home where 44-year-old Maximilian Bondrescu lived. Due to Bondrescu being a registered sex offender, investigators got a warrant and went to his home April 18, officials said. Bondrescu denied to officers that there was a girl inside the home, but she was later found hiding in a closet, the affidavit said. "The house was searched, and the missing juvenile was located inside. Bondrescu is currently a registered sexual offender," police shared in a news release on their department Facebook page. Police confirmed Bondrescu was booked into Larimer County Jail and is facing a number of charges, including the following: The victim was 15 when she was initially reported missing outside Columbia, Missouri, when school officials notified her father that she was not at school that morning, the affidavit says. He told police that when he got home from work, she was still not home, and he was unable to reach her by phone. Students at the school had reported the teen had talked about running away to Colorado, according to the affidavit. The victim, who was not identified due to her age, told investigators she began communicating with Bondrescu in November 2024 on an app called "Boo" but then moved their conversations to Snapchat. Police said the "investigation revealed that Bondrescu rented a vehicle to drive to Missouri where he met with the juvenile female and then drove her to Colorado." According to the affidavit, Bondrescu picked her up in the middle of the night and "took a route that avoided any toll roads." When they arrived in Colorado, the victim told police, Bondrescu wrapped her in a blanket and carried her into the house "so no one would see her." Bondrescu also made her dye her hair and wear a mask and sunglasses if they ever went out, the documents state. Police added that the victim reported to investigators that she was held against her will, but Bondrescu would sometimes take her out and make her work for his snow removal company, FoCo Sno GO. While she was forced to work for Bondrescu's company, police said, she was also required to wear a mask while shoveling to conceal her identity and age. Police are asking any customers who used this company to contact Det. David Guy at 970-416-2026. "The importance of the work done by the Fort Collins Police Cyber Crime Unit and similar units across the nation play a vital role in helping to keep our children safe," Fort Collins Police Assistant Chief Kristy Volesky said. "Had it not been for the diligent work of these detectives, the juvenile could have continued to be victimized. Our investigators will now work closely with the district attorney's office to ensure justice for this child." Bondrescu is being held on $500,000 bond with his court date scheduled for Monday, May 5, according to Larimer County Jail records. Hero cop Inspector Amy Scott and ‘bollard men' to give evidence during inquest into Bondi attack
Construction workers crowned national heroes after they wielded bollards at killer Joel Cauchi during the Westfield Bondi Junction attack will give evidence along with Inspector Amy Scott in the first week of a coronial inquest into the tragedy. It has been more than a year since Dawn Singleton, Yixuan Cheng, Faraz Ahmed Tahir, Ashlee Good, Jade Young and Pikria Darchia were all killed in the attack, in which Cauchi, 40, stabbed 16 people in less than three minutes. French construction workers Silas Desperaux and Damien Guerot were applauded for their bravery during the fatal attack on April 13, 2023, after they followed Cauchi through the shopping centre with bollards. Haunting CCTV footage captured the moment Mr Guerot stood at the top of an escalator brandishing a bollard, just metres away from a knife-wielding Cauchi. The pair last year told 9 NEWS they followed Cauchi before Mr Guerot attempted to throw the bollard at the 40-year-old at the escalators, missing him. They then found Inspector Scott, with footage showing Mr Guerot running behind her with a chair in the moments before she fatally shot Cauchi. Mr Guerot and Mr Desperaux were quickly dubbed 'bollard men' and widely praised for their bravery, with talks of granting Mr Guerot permanent residency quickly catching the attention of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese last year following reports his visa was due to expire. Mr Albanese said Mr Guerot was welcome to stay in Australia as long as he liked while thanking him for his 'extraordinary bravery'. He said Mr Guerot was 'someone who we would welcome becoming an Australian citizen, although that would of course be a loss for France'. Mr Guerot and Mr Desperaux are both expected to give evidence in court during the first week of the coronial inquest into the fatal attack. The inquest is expected to span five weeks from April 28 and May 30. Inspector Scott has also been listed as a witness for the first week of the inquest. The police officer single-handedly followed Cauchi through the centre and shot him dead. A court previously heard she had asked him to stop and drop his weapon after he began to charge at her. She shot him twice when he failed to do so. Cauchi's parents later said they had 'no issues with the police officer who shot (their) son, as she was only doing her job to protect others and we hope she is coping alright' in a statement released by Queensland Police last year. Whether the force used by Inspector Scott was 'justified, reasonable and appropriate' will be examined in the inquest, as well as the response of NSW Police. This includes when NSW Police first became aware of an active armed offender (AAO), their response to emergency calls, and communications between the police force, NSW Ambulance and staff from Scentre Group, who operate a string of Westfields across Australia including Bondi Junction. Evacuation instructions given by NSW Police, any impediments to the response of the police force, and the organisation and implementation of a command structure at the centre are also listed on an issues list for the inquest. NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Marks APM, who was the senior critical incident investigator and officer in charge of the force at the time, will be called as a witness this week. Forward commander and senior police officer Chief Inspector Christopher Whalley, NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic Christopher Wilkinson, a NSW Ambulance special operations team paramedic, and NSW Ambulance Director of Controls Centre Assistant Commissioner Brent Armitage — who were all present on the day of the attack — are also slated to give evidence. The nature and timing of NSW Ambulance's response to the attack is set to be explored, including the response to emergency calls, how and when they became aware of the events at Westfield Bondi Junction, any impediments to their response, and the declaration of the centre as a 'hot zone'. The adequacy of policies and procedures for AAOs and/or mass casualty events - including whether they were complied with - as treatment decisions and first aid provided, and whether paramedics had appropriate equipment to respond to a mass casualty incident will also be probed. Other key issues to be explored in the five-week inquest include Cauchi's state of mind before the fatal attack and on the day, as well as whether he targeted any particular individuals and groups. The nature, timing, and adequacy of the response by Scentre Group and its subcontractors Glad Group and Falkon Security will also be examined in the inquest.
