Create Account Toronto Police say the arrests stem from a drug trafficking investigation, which was launched last month and led to Drug Squad officers executing a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant in the area of Finch Ave. W. and Bathurst St. on July 31. 'It is alleged that (one of) the accused was involved in drug trafficking and was arrested as a result,' Insp. Kathlin Seremetkovski, who heads up the Drug Squad, said in a statement released Wednesday. She said a search warrant was executed at an address that was allegedly associated to the accused man. During the search, officers allegedly located and seized 17,405 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 1,470 grams of cocaine, a semi-automatic JR Carbine multi-calibre firearm, 88 rounds of 9mm Luger ammunition, and a large quantity of cash. The first accused – Emmanuel Igarza, of Toronto – was already on probation and subject to a court-ordered weapons prohibition based on his charges. Chicago woman accused of shooting at man in Gary dispute
A Chicago woman is accused of shooting her estranged boyfriend then lying to police about the incident. Laramie R. Newton, 34, is charged attempted murder, a Level 1 felony; two counts of felony intimidation; battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and pointing a Firearm at Another, a Level 6 felony, court records state. Her bail is set at $10,000. Around 6:42 a.m. on June 22, Gary police were dispatched for a report of shots fired in the 700 block of Burr Street, according to the probable affidavit. Upon arrival, police did not see any suspects or the male victim reportedly lying on the ground. A witness told police that she heard a man and woman arguing in front of a house down the street, then she saw the woman draw a handgun and fire at least four times in the direction of the man, records state. The woman then left in a white Lexus SUV heading south toward 8th Avenue. The witness saw the man run north on Burr and east through some yards before losing sight of him, court records state. One of the officers had spotted a white Lexus near Burr and 15th Avenue on the way to the scene. A K-9 officer picked up a scent from a black sandal in front of a house on Burr Street, where they also found a shell casing from a 9mm Luger, the affidavit states. Police located the white Lexus parked in the 600 block of Burr and saw a female wearing a torn green shirt walking with two people near the vehicle. Police tried to talk to the woman, who was uncooperative and had fresh scratch marks on her left shin and right upper back, records state. Police said it appeared she had been in a physical altercation. She was detained, and police found her unarmed, court records state. She denied that the SUV was hers and denied being involved in the shooting incident. The SUV's license plate was picked up on a license plate reader driving north on Clark Road around 6:34 a.m., the affidavit states. When police said the SUV would be towed, Newton excitedly said she didn't want her vehicle to be damaged and didn't have the money before stopping mid-sentence and admitting it was hers. Police told Newton she was free to leave and she started walking to the scene of where the initial shots fired call was located, records state. An officer was flagged down by the witness who was being yelled at by Newton. The witness was frightened and said Newton had shot the man, telling police that Newton had just told her, 'Come back to your house (expletive) imma kill you,' court records state. Newton walked away and a man stated screaming from the south side of 8th Avenue and Burr Street, 'She just shot at me and tried to kill me.' At that point, police placed Newton in custody to be booked for attempted murder, the affidavit states. Police spoke to the man who was shot at, who said that he and Newton have children together. He told police that their children were either in Illinois with their grandmother or with their older siblings in Chicago, records state. He told police their dispute started earlier when he was at the Clark gas station at 1485 Clark Road and was followed by Newton. She was in the SUV and demanded the keys to his vehicle because she is listed on the owner on the registration, cout records state. He was unsure why Newton followed him since she and the children don't live in Gary. He refused to give her the keys and saw two unknown people in the SUV with her, the affidavit states. He went back to his residence in the 700 block of Burr. While he was walking in front of the house, he saw Newton speed up in the SUV, stop and yell that 'Imma kill you (expletive)' and draw a handgun, records state. She fired 3 or 4 shots at him, and e ran east, running through various yards before jumping in his vehicle and fleeing the scene, hiding in the woods for a time. Police recovered the keys to the SUV in the 600 block of Burr, court records state. In a police interview, Newton told police that she got a Lyft ride to the man's residence to retrieve her Jeep Compass, which she knew was in Gary due to the tracker on the vehicle. She claimed there was altercation when she went to pick it up and denied ever being inside the Lexus SUV, the affidavit states. She told police the gunshots were from someone else who the man has trouble with. When asked if her cell phone would have records of her Lyft ride, she said she didn't know as she was intoxicated and said the man may have ordered the ride for her, records state. Newton gave permission to search her phone and no records of a Lyft ride was on her phone, but the Apple Maps app listed two residences in 700 block of Burr, and one in the 700 block off Durbin. Police did not find Newton truthful or credible, court records state.

Man refused bail after drive-by gun attack is leading instigator in violent Limerick feud
Shane Blackhall, (20), Mungret Court, Watergate, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today in respect of a gun attack at Hyde Avenue, January 6th last A man charged in connection with a drive-by shooting in Limerick, is one of the leading instigators of an ongoing feud in the city, Gardai alleged in court Tuesday. Shane Blackhall, (20), Mungret Court, Watergate, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today in respect of a gun attack at Hyde Avenue, January 6th last. Gardai alleged during Tuesday's bail hearing that Mr Blackhall was 'actively involved' in an ongoing violent feud and they were fearful someone would be killed or seriously injured if he was granted bail. Detective Garda Seamus Murphy told the court he charged Mr Blackhall on Monday with one count of possessing a firearm in suspicious circumstances on January 6th. Det Gda Murphy said he also charged Mr Blackhall with one count of unlawfully taking a blue Volkswagen car, which Gardai allege was used in the January 6th drive-by shooting. Mr Blackhall was also charged with possessing €26,000 worth of cannabis for sale or supply, and, possessing cannabis, which Garda Murphy said was found in Mr Blackhall's home when Gardai searched it on July 10th last, as part of investigations into the January 6th shooting. Garda Murphy told the court that at 6.34pm on January 6th last, Gardai responded to reports of a shooting at Hyde Avenue, Limerick, and discovered a stolen Volkswagen car abandoned and extensively damaged after it had crashed into a lamppost near the scene. Gardai found two 9mm bullet casings inside the car a well as a further five 9mm bullet casings at various points along Hyde Avenue. Garda Murphy said that forensic analysis of the bullet casings found inside the car and along Hyde Avenue showed they were '9mm Luger' ammunition, and that, 'all fired from the same weapon'. Garda Murphy said investigating gardai believe that a 'Glock, semi-automatic' firearm was used in the gun attack. Garda Murphy said Gardai had harvested CCTV footage showing the stolen VW car traveling along Hyde Avenue and 'slowing' as it comes to houses, and a 'number of shots are discharged' from the car. Garda Murphy said the footage shows the car 'travel at speed' away onto Lenihan Avenue, Byrne Avenue, and onto Rosbrien Road, passing an ESB premises. The CCTV footage also shows the car crashed at Ashbourne Avenue and two individuals fleeing the vehicle, said Garda Murphy. The Garda witness alleged that a subsequent forensic examination of the VW car had resulted in the discovery of human DNA on the car's driver-side airbag, which he alleged was a match for Mr Blackhall's DNA. Garda Murphy told the court that further more serious charges were anticipated against Mr Blackhall in respect of the shooting investigation. Garda Murphy said he was objecting to bail due to the 'seriousness of the charges, and the strength and nature of the evidence'. 'I believe that if he (Mr Blackhall) is granted bail, the accused will again become involved in this feud and will pose a serious and active threat to homeowners and members of the public.' Garda Murphy said serious weaponry had been used in the feud and that gardai were concerned about a safety risk to the general public. Answering Mr Blackhall's solicitor, Sarah Ryan, who stated the accused would abide by whatever bail conditions the court decided, Garda Murphy stated: 'I do not believe that there are any bail conditions which would be applied that could prevent further similar crimes by the accused.' 'It is my belief that, if granted bail, there will be further serious offences committed by the accused, up to the risk of further property been damaged, including loss of (life) and serious injury.' Judge Patricia Harney said she believed Det Gda Murphy's evidence was 'well founded' and 'should be accepted', and she refused bail. The judge remanded Mr Blackhall in custody to appear before Limerick District Court again on June 24th for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Man charged over Limerick drive-by shooting allegedly a key player in ongoing feud, gardaí say
A MAN CHARGED in connection with a drive-by shooting in Limerick is one of the leading instigators of an ongoing feud in the city, gardaí have alleged. 20-year-old Shane Blackhall, with an address at Mungret Court, Watergate, Limerick, appeared before Limerick District Court today in respect of a gun attack at Hyde Avenue on 6 January 2024. Gardaí alleged during today's bail hearing that Blackhall was 'actively involved' in an ongoing violent feud and they were fearful someone would be killed or seriously injured if he was granted bail. Jurisdiction refused by district court in Louth ‘gun' case
Tommy Leddy, Moneymore, Drogheda, is accused of unauthorised possession of an unbranded 9mm Luger calibre semi-automatic pistol and unauthorised possession of 10 rounds of 9mm Luger calibre ammunition, at Moneymore, on March 4 last. Court presenter Sgt John O'Hehir said that DPP directions were not available. A ballistics report was awaited. Solicitor Paul Moore said that his client was in custody since March 5. Mr Leddy had been granted High Court bail but was unable to meet a cash lodgement condition. Judge Gráinne Malone said it was not a matter suitable for the district court and refused jurisdiction. The defendant was remanded in custody to June 23. A date of July 21 was reserved for service of a book of evidence. Judge Malone said that the DPP has had 'ample opportunity'. The accused was entitled to have matters expedited.
