‘Sixth Sense' actor apologizes after California ski resort arrest and slur

Actor Haley Joel Osment, best known for his role in the 1999 thriller 'The Sixth Sense,' is apologizing for using an antisemitic slur during his arrest at a California ski resort earlier this month. Osment, 37, was arrested for public intoxication, possession of cocaine, and disorderly conduct at Mammoth Mountain on April 8. Video obtained by TMZ shows the actor being uncooperative as he tried to board a chairlift without his snowboard. In police body camera footage obtained by People, Osment is seen allegedly hurling an antisemitic slur at an arresting officer and calling him a 'Nazi.' 'I'm absolutely horrified by my behavior,' Osment said in a statement shared with People on Thursday. 'Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner.' Osment, who lost his Altadena, California, home in January's Eaton Fire, has reportedly been struggling with his insurance company. His statement continued: 'The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place. But that's no excuse for using this disgusting word. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I've let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don't ask for anyone's forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.' In addition to his iconic role in 'The Sixth Sense,' Osment also starred in Steven Spielberg's 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' (2001) and 'Secondhand Lions' (2003). The Mammoth incident was not his first run-in with the law. In 2006, he was arrested and pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after a car crash. In 2018, he was involved in a public scuffle at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Haley Joel Osment ‘Horrified' by His Use of Antisemitic Slur During Arrest

Haley Joel Osment said he is 'absolutely horrified' by his behavior while being arrested for public intoxication earlier this month, which included saying he was being 'kidnapped by a f–king Nazi' and later using an antisemitic slur against an officer. The actor, after being arrested at a ski lodge at Mammoth Lakes, California, on Apr. 8, was seen on body camera footage hurling insults at the police, including calling one officer a 'f–king k–e.' Osment has since been charged with possession of cocaine and disorderly conduct for the incident. On Thursday, he told People Magazine he was disgusted by his actions during the arrest. 'I'm absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,' Osment shared in a statement. 'The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place.' The 37-year-old former child star, who rose to fame in 'The Sixth Sense' and 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence,' lost his home in Altadena during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January. Still, Osment admitted in his statement that is 'no excuse' for using 'this disgusting word' about Jewish people. 'From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts,' he said. 'What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage — I've let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don't ask for anyone's forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.' Osment was arrested for public intoxication after trying to get on a ski lift with his helmet on backwards and without any skis or a snowboard. He then repeatedly said he was 'being attacked' while being arrested, according to bodycam footage, and said 'I am American' when asked for his name. Police recovered a $20 bill from Osment during the arrest, which had a 'controlled substance' wrapped inside it, believed to be cocaine, police sources told People. ‘Sixth Sense' Star Haley Joel Osment Arrested At California Ski Resort For Public Intoxication

'The Sixth Sense' star Haley Joel Osment was arrested at a Mammoth Lakes, California ski lodge earlier this month for alleged public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance, according to multiple media outlets, including TMZ and People. The 37-year-old was arrested at a parking lot for The Mill, one of the so-called base lodges at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, around 2 p.m. on April 8. A local police source told People on Wednesday that they had received a call reporting his alleged 'unruly conduct.' Sergeant Jason Heilman of the Mammoth Lakes Police Department told the outlet Wednesday that Osment, best known for his role in 'The Sixth Sense' as a clairvoyant child who can see dead people, 'was booked and is no longer in custody.' Osment was previously charged in 2006 with misdemeanor drunk driving at 18. He reportedly pleaded no contest at the time to one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of possession of marijuana, receiving three years of probation. The local police source who confirmed his alleged unruliness Wednesday said the controlled substance authorities claim to have found on Osment earlier this month is currently 'presumed to be cocaine.' They added that law enforcement has since 'sent it for testing.' 'We will have the results soon,' the source told People. Osment was only 10 years old while filming opposite Bruce Willis in M. Night Shyamalan's 'The Sixth Sense.' He went on to star in Steven Spielberg's 'A.I. Artificial Intelligence' (2001). Like many Hollywood stars, Osment lost his home in the California wildfires earlier this year. 'It's been an extremely difficult month,' his sister Emily shared at the time. 'Thank you to everyone that has reached out to my family in the wake of the fires. Devastated for my mother and my father and my brother who lost their homes in the Altadena fire.' She added, 'We will rebuild. We are so strong, even stronger than we could ever imagine.' Who is Haley Joel Osment? Oscar-nominated former child star arrested for alleged drug possession and public intoxication

Actor Haley Joel Osment was arrested on 8 April 2025 in Mammoth Lakes, California, for alleged public intoxication and possession of a suspected controlled substance, reportedly cocaine. The incident occurred at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and the actor was booked and released the same day. Police stated the matter remains under investigation. Photo: Mono County Sheriff's Office Osment, 37, first gained recognition as a child actor in Forrest Gump before achieving critical acclaim for his role in The Sixth Sense, which earned him an Oscar nomination at age 11. He went on to star in films like Pay It Forward and A.I. Artificial Intelligence, later taking a hiatus to study acting at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. After returning to Hollywood, Osment took on more adult roles in films such as Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile and most recently appeared in the 2024 thriller Blink Twice. Despite a lower public profile in recent years, he has remained active in both film and television. He is the older brother of actress Emily Osment, known for her role in Hannah Montana. The siblings, both former child stars, have often supported one another professionally and personally. This is not Osment's first run-in with law enforcement. He previously received probation following a 2006 drink-driving incident and was involved in a verbal dispute at an airport in 2018.
