Former Wisconsin basketball star guard reveals transfer decision

Former Wisconsin basketball star guard reveals transfer decision Former Wisconsin basketball star wing A.J. Storr committed to Ole Miss on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. The 6-foot-7 junior guard, who played for the Kansas Jayhawks during the 2024-25 season, will join his fourth program in as many college seasons, dating back to his freshman campaign at St. John's. Notably, Storr spent the 2023-24 slate with Greg Gard's program in Madison. That season was easily his best -- the Illinois native averaged 28.8 minutes, 16.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 32% from 3 as UW's clear-cut No. 1 offensive option. His performance helped the team finish in the top five of the Big Ten standings and clinch an NCAA Tournament berth. Storr earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team that season and was named to the 2024 Big Ten All-Tournament Team after leading the Badgers to the title game against Illinois. He dropped at least 20 points in 11 of 36 games as a Badger, plus scored under 10 points just twice. The standout guard elected to forgo the NBA draft and enter the transfer portal after that breakout season. He committed to Kansas, one of college basketball's premier programs, as 247Sports' No. 4 overall player in the transfer cycle. He struggled to develop a role with the Jayhawks, averaging just 15.7 minutes 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game, while shooting a career-worst 38.4% from the floor and 29% from 3. He finished with five points or fewer in 19 of the team's 34 games, including six performances without a single point. That turbulence didn't appear to drastically impact Storr's transfer stock, however. The rising senior reentered the portal after the 2024-25 campaign. He commits to Ole Miss as 247Sports' No. 49 overall transfer and No. 10 small forward. While brilliant in his one season at Wisconsin, Storr's career is defined by the number of his stops. Prior to college, he played four seasons of high school basketball with four different schools -- Kankakee High School (Illinois), Bishop Gorman High School (Nevada), AZ Compass Prep (Arizona) and IMG Academy (Florida). Ole Miss will mark his eighth new program in as many years. Chris Beard and the Rebels will now roster Storr with hopes of rediscovering the capabilities he showcased with the Badgers. The Rebels enter 2025-26 looking to build off their Elite 8 appearance in the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The team will now do so with Storr as one of its leading options. Former Wisconsin basketball star again one of the transfer portal's top-ranked players

Former Wisconsin basketball star again one of the transfer portal's top-ranked players Former St John's, Wisconsin and Kansas wing A.J. Storr remains in the transfer portal as of April 14. Storr entered the portal for the third time in as many seasons earlier this month, following Kansas' NCAA Tournament first-round loss to Arkansas. The rising senior struggled to find steady footing with the Jayhawks in 2024-25, averaging just 15.7 minutes, 6.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.7 assists while shooting a career-worst 38.4% from the floor and 29% from 3. That production fell far below expectations after the wing joined the program as 247Sports' No. 4 overall player in the 2024 transfer cycle. Of course, that high ranking was due to a standout 2023-24 season with the Badgers, during which Storr averaged 28.8 minutes, 16.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 0.9 assists while shooting 43% from the field and 32% from 3. He and star point guard Chucky Hepburn led the Badgers to a top-five finish in the Big Ten and an NCAA Tournament appearance. Despite being a full season removed from that strong performance, with that year including relative struggles on one of the sport's more disappointing teams, Storr is again one of 247Sports top-ranked transfers. The 6-foot-6 wing is currently a four-star transfer prospect, ranked specifically as the portal's No. 49 overall player and No. 10 small forward. There have been few headlines regarding Storr's potential transfer landing spots. That is despite his status as a top-50 transfer, which would typically attract interest from major programs. Storr's commitment and performance during the upcoming season will be worth watching. Wisconsin had little trouble replacing his production in a suddenly high-powered offense. John Tonje, 2024's No. 296 overall transfer, broke out with an All-American season, falling just short of the program's single-year scoring record. Storr, meanwhile, is still looking to replicate his form and production from that 2023-24 campaign with the Badgers. Wisconsin basketball already has several reported transfer portal interests

Wisconsin basketball already has several reported transfer portal interests While Wisconsin basketball's season ended less than 48 hours ago with an NCAA Tournament loss to BYU, the page is already turning to the upcoming transfer portal season. That timeline and dynamic represent the current age of college basketball. While the Badgers are a program built on development, they, and most others in the sport, enter every offseason with a somewhat clean slate, needing significant additions at several key positions. Wisconsin's semi-clean slate last offseason was due to the transfer departures of Chucky Hepburn and A.J. Storr. This offseason, it's due to a terrific senior class moving on: guard Max Klesmit, wing John Tonje, center Steven Crowl, forward Carter Gilmore, guard Kamari McGee and forward Markus Ilver. That group includes five major contributors and three starters. More notably, it accounted for 62% of Wisconsin's minutes, 67% of its points, 50% of its rebounds, 67.5% of its assists and 67.4% of its three-point makes this season. Wisconsin enters this transfer cycle needing to recreate much of that production. At the least, it needs to rebuild key depth behind rising stars John Blackwell and Nolan Winter. For reference, here is our early look at the team's 2025-26 starting lineup and rotation, which includes several impact transfers. The portal cycle officially opened on Monday, March 24. It will remain open through the end of the NCAA Tournament, up until April 22. Extremely early in the cycle, Wisconsin already has a few reported interests: Milwaukee forward Jamichael Stillwell Measurables: 6'8", 225 pounds 2024-25 Stats: Junior season. 28 minutes, 13.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.3 steals per game. 46.8% shooting, 28.6% from three. UMass Lowell forward Quinton Mincey Measurables: 6'6", 205 pounds 2024-25 Stats: Senior season. 35.9 minutes, 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists per game. 48.6% shooting, 39.4% from three. How Wisconsin transfer A.J. Storr performed in Kansas' 2OT loss to Houston

Wisconsin transfer guard A.J. Storr was a big story from No. 12 Kansas' double-overtime loss to No. 7 Houston on Saturday, and not in a good way. Advertisement Storr was scoreless during 18 minutes of action, going 0-of-six from the field, 0-of-three from three-point range and 0-of-four from the free-throw line. His only additions to the stat sheet were a rebound and an assist. Related: Updated game-by-game predictions for Wisconsin basketball after UCLA loss The performance halted Storr's recent stretch of strong play dating back to a Jan. 18 win over Kansas State. It also played an integral role in the outcome of the tightly-contested game. The Wisconsin transfer was on the court during the closing moments of double overtime. He went to the free-throw line with Kansas trailing 88-84 with 45 seconds remaining. Two makes were critical to the Jayhawks' chance at a signature victory. Storr, a career 77% free-throw shooter, missed both. Houston then added several makes at the line to ice the game. Kansas as a team went just 17-of-30 from the free-throw line on the evening, including Storr's four misses. That mark is accentuated by a six-of-14 conversion rate during the two overtime periods. Jayhawks head coach Bill Self was asked postgame whether fatigue played a role in the team's heightened late-game struggles in the area. 'I don't know, I don't know,' Self said. 'But certainly, you have go to the line and make two, or at least make one. We were six-of-14 in overtime from the line. So that obviously played a role. We still had our chances to put it away if we just executed better, if I had done a better job.' As indicated, Storr wasn't alone in his struggles in that area. Forward Flory Bidunga missed a pair of key free throws early in the first overtime period, while guard Dajuan Harris Jr.'s two late misses led to a game-deciding sequence: Kansas led 79-73 with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime. Harris Jr. missed two free throws, Houston hit a three-pointer with eight seconds left (79-76), Kansas turned the ball over on the inbounds pass, and Houston made another late three to tie the game at 79. I haven't seen anyone clip the entire sequence, from missed FTs all the way to 79-79. Maybe the most unexpected 14 seconds of the season. — Will Warren (@statsbywill) January 26, 2025 According to KenPom, Houston had just a 0.4% win probability when Kansas had the ball, a six-point lead and free throw attempts with 18 seconds remaining in the first overtime. It turned that circumstance into one of the most improbable wins of recent memory. The result dropped Kansas to 15-4 on the season and 5-3 in Big 12 play. Houston, on the other hand, is now 16-3 overall and 8-0 in-conference. The AJ Storr addition hasn't exactly been what anyone in Lawrence had hoped for. — Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanHoops) January 26, 2025 Storr's scoreless performance dropped his per-game averages to 17.9 minutes, 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds and one assist on 40% shooting and 26.7% from three. Those totals are all far below what was expected when the former Badger made his high-profile transfer move to the Jayhawks.
