Two Carshalton roads to be closed for more than a month

Two roads in Carshalton will be closed to drivers for up to a month for essential work in June. The closure will be in place from Friday, June 6, as gas mains are replaced near Park Lane. Sutton Council has confirmed that Grosvenor Avenue and Grosvenor Road will be shut at their junctions with the B271 Park Lane to allow the works to go ahead safely. The closures are expected to last until Wednesday, July 9, but the council says the traffic order will stay in place for up to 18 months in case more work is needed later. While the closures are in effect, no vehicles (including bikes) will be allowed to enter, exit, stop or travel through the affected sections of road. The works are due to begin on June 6, 2025, and are expected to be completed by July 9, 2025. The restrictions will only apply when signs are in place. Drivers will be diverted via: • Park Lane, Boundary Road, Stanley Park Road, Beeches Avenue and Gordon Road (and vice versa) • Or Park Lane, Boundary Road, Stanley Park Road, Woodcote Road and Manor Road (and vice versa) Access for residents will be maintained where possible, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the works. The temporary order is being made under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. Sutton Council says the works are necessary as they involve activity on or near the road surface. READ MORE: The notice was issued by A.M. Ataie, interim head of highways and transport at the council, and dated May 12, 2025.
