Why Shares in Airbus Took Off Today

Shares in European aerospace giant Airbus (OTC: EADSY) rose by as much as 4% in early-morning trading today. The move follows the announcement that Vietnam's Vietjet airline has doubled its orders of wide-body Airbus A330neo aircraft to 40 from 20 during French President Macron's visit to the country. Vietjet and Airbus The airline already operates an all-Airbus fleet , comprising 116 narrow-body A320 family aircraft and seven wide-body A330s in operation. Therefore, the order isn't a new "logo" win for Airbus. Instead, it's an expansion of orders in the lucrative wide-body market: planes used for longer-haul flights. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Learn More » It's also a shot in the arm for Airbus' wide-body programs, notably the A330neo, which only had 82 orders in 2024, and just 10 orders in 2025 (from Saudi Group) in 2025 before the Vietjet order. Airbus is typically seen as leading in the narrow-body market, not least due to Boeing 's problems with the 737 MAX, but lagging its American rival in the wide-body market, where the 787 Dreamliner (the A330's primary competition) and the forthcoming 777X offer formidable competition. Where next for Airbus? Airbus and Boeing continue to grapple with supply chain issues that pose potential restraints on production capacity, and there is a concern that extended delivery delays could lead airlines to forgo orders, particularly in the wide-body market. As such, the Vietjet order will help restore confidence in Airbus's order trajectory and, more importantly, airlines' willingness to place orders for aircraft in an uncertain trading environment. Macron courts Hanoi: France, Vietnam ink $10 billion in deals amid Trump tariff tensions

During a joint press conference with his Vietnamese counterpart, Luong Cuong, in Hanoi, Macron stressed the importance of a rule-based order 'at a time of both great imbalance and a return to power-driven rhetoric' read more France's President Emmanuel Macron and Vietnam's President Luong Cuong shake hands during a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. (Photo: Reuters) France has a flurry of new trade deals with Vietnam, as Trump tariffs threaten the world economy. During his first leg of his Southeast Asia tour, which started with a visit to Vietnam, French President Emmanuel Macron signed over 30 agreements worth $10 billion, including a major Airbus deal for 20 aircraft. Macron's first formal visit to Vietnam, the first by a French president in nearly a decade, follows US President Donald Trump's threats on Friday to impose 50 per cent duties on European Union goods from June 1, fuelling tensions with the 27-country bloc, though he later delayed that deadline to July 9. During a joint press conference with his Vietnamese counterpart, Luong Cuong, in Hanoi, Macron stressed the importance of a rule-based order 'at a time of both great imbalance and a return to power-driven rhetoric'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD What did the deals cover? Deals covered the purchase of 20 Airbus planes, cooperation on nuclear energy, defence, rail and maritime transport, Airbus earth-observation satellites and Sanofi vaccines, a list of documents seen by Reuters showed, confirming an earlier report. The deal with European planemaker Airbus for Vietnam's low-cost airline VietJet to buy 20 A330neo wide-body aircraft follows last year's agreement for 20 of the jets. The two countries also signed deals intended towards a defence push, with Cuong saying that the defence partnership involved 'sharing of information on strategic matters' and stronger cooperation in the defence industry, cybersecurity and anti-terrorism. Meanwhile, Macron reiterated France's support of freedom of navigation, an issue dear to Vietnam as it often clashes with Beijing over contested boundaries in the South China Sea. EU concerns over Vietnam's concessions to US At the same time, the European Union has been on the edge since Vietnam announced plans to cut tariffs on several products as the country tries to avoid being hit with US tariffs because of its large bilateral trade surplus. Under the new plans revealed late on Tuesday, the tariff on American liquefied natural gas will be cut to 2 per cent from 5 per cent, on automobiles to 32 per cent from a range of 45 per cent to 64 per cent, and on ethanol to 5 per cent from 10 per cent, the head of the Finance Ministry's tax policy department Nguyen Quoc Hung said in a statement posted on the ministry's website. The tariff cuts are aimed at 'improving trade balances with (Vietnam)'s trade partners,' Hung said, adding that while the US and Vietnam had a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the countries had not signed a free-trade agreement. Airbus (EADSF) Receives Large New Order from VietJet

Vietnamese budget airline VietJet announced on Monday that it has placed a new order with European plane manufacturer Airbus (EADSF) for 20 A330neo wide-body jets. This brings the total number of A330neos the airline has agreed to purchase up to 40 and follows a deal that was signed last year for the same number of aircraft. The latest agreement was announced during French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Hanoi, where he met with Vietnamese leaders in order to discuss strengthening ties between the two countries. The agreement was signed by VietJet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao and Airbus executive Wouter van Wersch. Thao said that the A330neo jets will help VietJet grow its international flight network, especially across the Asia-Pacific region, and may be used for future long-haul routes to Europe. Unsurprisingly, Van Wersch added that Airbus is proud to be the airline's wide-body aircraft provider of choice. The announcement also comes at a time when Vietnam is in the middle of trade talks with the United States, where it is trying to avoid getting hit with heavy tariffs. This has led VietJet to show interest in buying aircraft from Boeing (BA), which U.S. and Vietnamese officials have said could help reduce Vietnam's large trade surplus with Washington. Interestingly, though, it's worth noting that the airline previously agreed to buy 200 Boeing 737 MAX jets in a deal that was signed in 2016, but none of those planes have been delivered yet. Is EADSF Stock a Good Buy? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Strong Buy consensus rating on EADSF stock based on 11 Buys, two Holds, and zero Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average EADSF price target of $210.22 per share implies 17.9% upside potential.
