Report: The Latest On Alberto Del Rio's WWE Status
What is the latest on Alberto Del Rio and WWE following the acquisition of AAA last month? When WWE announced last month during WrestleMania 41 weekend that it had acquired the Mexican wrestling promotion AAA, all eyes shifted to current AAA Mega Champion Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio), who the company has had less than a positive relationship with in recent years. So much so, it was reported multiple times that WWE had no interest in working with Del Rio ever again. Advertisement Despite that, rumors persisted following the acquisition that Del Rio had signed a deal with WWE to remain with AAA. But we still don't know if that's entirely accurate. In an update on the situation from Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), one source has informed him that 'it's hard to believe that it's an accident or coincidence' that Alberto is currently scheduled to defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo one week before WWE and AAA's Worlds Collide event. With another source stating the following regarding Del Rio's potential WWE status: 'Even if they keep Del Rio in the company, that belt is almost surely coming off of him.' Advertisement While Vikingo is scheduled to be a big part of the partnership going forward, Del Rio's status for Worlds Collide remains uncertain. Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available. Alberto Del Rio Attacks Production Crew On Mexican TV Show
Alberto Del Rio continues to find himself in the headlines ahead of his AAA Mega Championship defense this weekend against El Hijo del Vikingo. This week on Venga La Alegria, a talk show that airs in Mexico, an angle for this weekend's AAA match between Alberto Del Rio (El Patron) and El Hijo del Vikingo took place. In a fit of rage, Del Rio attacked Vikingo's father and multiple members of the show's production crew. Advertisement While some online had reported this as a shoot, this was 100% scripted and meant to build interest in his title defense against Vikingo this weekend. You can check out a video of the incident in the embedded post below: WWE has already spoiled the result of Del Rio's match this weekend While Alberto Del Rio's title defense hasn't happened yet, WWE has already spoiled the result. Monday night during RAW, WWE advertised that the match between El Hijo del Vikingo and Chad Gable at Worlds Collide will be for the AAA Mega Championship. This goes a long way in showing WWE's lack of interest in working with Del Rio following their acquisition of AAA. Security drags ex WWE star off daytime TV show after physical clash
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Former WWE superstar Albert El Patron was dragged off a TV set by security after appearing to snap during an interview. The 48-year-old wrestler, best known to WWE fans as Albert Del Rio, was on TV Azteca's morning show Venga La Alegria to promote this weekend's TV tapings in Mexico City. He was on the programme when Vikingo, the father of his opponent El Hijo del Vikingo, appeared and confronted him about the bout. Things took a chaotic turn, as El Patron attacked him and shoved him to the ground, with a woman shouting for security as the former world champion put his hands on a member of staff. He was seen pushing a man who appeared to be a presenter, while security dragged the wrestler away amid plenty of shouting. TV Azteca and the presenters have claimed the incident was real, according to local media, although it appears to have been a stunt to promote this weekend's show. El Patron will defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Hijo Del Vikingo this weekend, when he's expected to drop the title. WWE recently announced it had purchased the AAA Lucha Libre promotion, and the controversial star isn't expected to be part of their plans. Vikingo is set to face Raw star Chad Gable at WWE and AAA's Worlds Collide event on June 7, and an advert ran for the match on Raw this week promoting it as a AAA Mega Championship bout with Vikingo defending, seemingly spoiling this weekend's AAA shows. Announcing the AAA acquisition in April over WrestleMania weekend, Paul 'Triple H' Levesque said: 'AAA has a rich cultural heritage with some of the most passionate fans in the world and it's an honor to work with the Peña family to embark on this journey. 'By bringing together WWE's global capabilities and AAA's amazing tradition, we look forward to an exciting future filled with new opportunities.' And AAA General Manager Dorian Roldán Peña added: 'AAA has been a family-operated promotion for over three decades and our trust could not be better placed than with one of the biggest sports entertainment businesses in the world.' The company, which was founded in 1992 by Antonio Peña, has seen the likes of WWE Hall of Famers Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, and current Raw star Penta, pass through their doors. More Trending As Alberto Del Rio, El Patron spent four years on the main roster between 2010 and 2014, before being let go 'due to unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee'. In 2020, El Patron was arrested and later faced charges of aggravated kidnapping and sexual assault towards his then-girlfriend. View More » The charges were dropped due to a missing witness in December 2021, and the wrestler was cleared. Got a story? Alberto Del Rio sparks chaos on talk show amid WWE return rumors
Image via WWE Former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio has once again found himself at the center of controversy after a shocking altercation on a live Mexican talk show. Known for his fiery temper and past disciplinary issues, Del Rio - now wrestling under the name Alberto El Patron - was involved in a physical confrontation that has sparked widespread debate online and may jeopardize his rumored return to WWE. Heated segment turns violent on Mexican TV The incident occurred during an appearance on the TV Azteca morning show Venga La Alegría, where Del Rio was promoting his upcoming AAA Mega Championship defense against El Hijo del Vikingo. Tensions flared when a video message introduced Vikingo's father, who unexpectedly walked onto the set. The situation quickly spiraled out of control as Del Rio ripped off his own shirt and began assaulting Vikingo's father, punching him repeatedly while production staff and security attempted to intervene. Footage of the moment shows Del Rio throwing a chair and getting physical with a show crew member, prompting a woman to scream for him to leave the set. He eventually stormed off, leaving chaos in his wake. This isn't the first time Del Rio has crossed the line. He was previously released by WWE in 2014 for what the company described as "unprofessional conduct" after slapping a staff member over an alleged racist remark. Despite multiple controversies over the years, recent reports suggest that WWE has been in talks to re-sign him as part of a broader deal with AAA talent. WWE comeback in doubt? Super Luchas' Editor-in-Chief Ernesto Ocamo recently claimed that WWE has signed several AAA stars - including Del Rio, El Hijo del Vikingo, and others - with speculation that they may appear at the upcoming WWE Worlds Collide event in June. Del Rio is currently AAA's reigning Mega Champion, but many fans now believe the title may be transferred to Vikingo soon, potentially clearing the way for Del Rio's return to WWE programming. Reactions to the incident have been mixed. While some fans speculated the fight may have been a kayfabe (scripted) moment to promote the upcoming match, others criticized Del Rio for his erratic behavior. 'Triple H won't want loose cannons like him back,' one fan wrote on social media. With WWE looking to clean up its image and focus on global expansion, Del Rio's latest outburst raises serious questions about whether he truly fits into the company's long-term plans. For now, fans will have to wait and watch if this shocking act was part of a storyline - or the latest in a series of real-life missteps.

WWE Spoils Upcoming Title Match Involving Alberto Del Rio
Spoiler alert — Alberto Del Rio might not be the AAA Mega Champion much longer. On June 7, WWE will host Worlds Collide, with talents from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and AAA competing. One of the cross-promotional matches will pit WWE Raw star Chad Gable against AAA's El Hijo Del Vikingo. Advertisement Per an advertisement on this week's episode of Raw, this match will be for the AAA Mega Championship. The problem? Neither Vikingo nor Gable currently holds the AAA Mega Championship. That distinction currently belongs to Alberto El Patron, who WWE fans formerly know as Alberto Del Rio. Last August, Alberto defeated Nic Nemeth to claim the title. Looking ahead, he is slated to defend it against Vikingo at AAA's May 31 show in Mexico. Given the fact that WWE is now promoting Vikingo vs. Gable for the Mega Championship, it seems that they also spoiled the finish to Vikingo vs. Alberto, with the challenger soon becoming the new champion. Vikingo and Gable crossed paths on Raw this week, beginning with the latter landing a cheap shot on the former, who was sitting at ringside. Vikingo later turned the tables during Gable's Money in the Bank qualifier by nailing him with a kick as Gable stood atop the turnbuckle. Advertisement This move allowed Dragon Lee to connect a stomp to Gable. Penta then capitalized with a Mexican Destroyer to Lee and a Penta Driver on Gable for the win. Last month, WWE announced that it had acquired AAA. Vikingo was one of the many talents present at the time of the groundbreaking announcement.
