Tru Washington of New Mexico, Jessica Peterson of SMU latest transfers to join UM
The University of Miami men's and women's basketball roster overhaul continued as coaches Tricia Cullop and Jai Lucas announced more signings from the transfer portal on Friday. New Mexico transfer Tru Washington, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound guard from Phoenix, Ariz., joined the men's team. South Florida transfer Vittoria Blasigh, a native of Italy; FIU transfer Mya Kone, a Pompano Beach native; Gal Raviv, an Israeli point guard who spent her freshman season at Quinnipiac; and Jessica Peterson, a 6-2 center from SMU; signed with the Miami women's team. Washington is the fourth transfer to sign with the Hurricanes since Lucas was hired in March to replace retired Jim Larranaga. He joins Michigan guard Tre Donaldson, a Tallahassee native; TCU's Ernest Udeh Jr., a 6-11 center/forward who grew up in Orlando, and Indiana University's Malik Reneau, a Miami native and 6-9 forward, who was Lucas' first commit since taking over the Hurricanes program last month. 'I am delighted to welcome Tru to our program as I have known him and his family since I recruited his relative TyTy Washington at Kentucky,' Lucas said. 'His competitive spirit and proven track record of success align seamlessly with the values we want to uphold in our program. During his two years at New Mexico, Tru consistently contributed to the winning culture, and we know that will translate to here at Miami.' In two years with the Lobos, Washington averaged 8.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. He earned All-Mountain West Team Honorable Mention honors in 2024-25 with 11.1 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The women's team also continues to restock for 2025-26. Blasigh, a 5-9 guard, started 27 of 33 games this past season for USF as the Bulls won the AAC Tournament Championship and appeared in the NCAA Tournament. She averaged 10.4 points per game. She was the AAC Freshman of the Year in 2023-24 and has represented Italy at the U19 level. 'Vikki is a knockdown shooter with great 3-point range and the ability to shoot off the dribble,' said Cullop. 'She's a veteran guard and a proven winner who thrives in clutch moments.' Kone is a 6-2 forward who spent the past two seasons at FIU after spending her freshman year at James Madison. She attended Blanche Ely High School and was a 2022 McDonald's All-American nominee. 'We absolutely love Mya's size, length, and versatility,' said Cullop. 'She can play multiple positions and score in a variety of ways. She is an outstanding rebounder who will be a matchup problem for opponents.' She appeared in one game for FIU this past season before sustaining a season-ending injury. She recorded a double-double in her lone appearance for the Panthers, as she scored 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. During the 2023-24 season, Kone played 33 games for FIU. She averaged 11.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game and was named First Team All-CUSA and the 2024 CUSA Sixth Player of the Year. Raviv, a 5-foot-9 point guard, had a standout freshman season at Quinnipiac. She was named 2025 Mid-American Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year and the MAAC Rookie of the Year after leading Quinnipiac to a 28-5 record, starting all 33 games. She led the team in points (17.9 ppg), rebounds (5.5 rpg), and assists (4.3 apg). 'We are thrilled Gal is joining our program,' said Cullop. 'She can score at all three levels, has outstanding court vision, and is a proven winner. She has also enjoyed great success internationally representing Team Israel.' Raviv represented Israel in the FIBA U18 Women's Eurobasket in Portugal, where was the fourth leading scorer in the entire event and led Israel with 17.3 points per game and 4.7 assists per contest The newest signee is Jessica Peterson, a 6-2 California native who started all 30 games for SMU this past season and led the ACC in rebounds per game (12.0) and total rebounds (360). She recorded 14 double-doubles throughout the season, which was the third-highest mark in the ACC. 'Jessica is a proven veteran in the ACC,' said Cullop. 'She led the league and was seventh in the nation in rebounding. She is a shot blocker who can score inside and out. We love her size, strength, and motor.'

Lady Vols defeat South Florida in NCAA Tournament No. 4 seed Tennessee (23-9) defeated No. 13 South Florida (23-11), 101-66, Friday in the first round of the Birmingham Regional 3 in the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Schottenstein Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Lady Vols led, 55-34, at halftime after outscoring South Florida, 29-9, in the second quarter. The game marked the eighth time Tennessee has scored 100-plus points this season. Talaysia Cooper totaled 20 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals, while Samara Spencer recorded 15 points and five rebounds for Tennessee. Zee Spearman also scored 13 points. Jewel Spear added 11 points, while Alyssa Latham and Tess Darby recorded eight points each. The Lady Vols, who forced the Bulls, who won the AAC Tournament Championship as the No. 3 seed, into 21 turnovers in the contest. Tennessee committed just five turnovers in the contest. The Lady Vols will next Sunday against host and No. 4 seed Ohio State with the winner advancing to the Sweet 16
