Is ‘The View' going on hiatus? What to know after Joy Behar's comments
As President Donald Trump continues to feud with the entertainment industry, of which he was once a part, speculations have emerged that another fan-favorite show is being slashed. ABC Network's "The View" has found itself in dispute with the Trump administration, with a White House spokesperson suggesting the long-time talk show could be coming to an end. During a July 23 episode, co-host Joy Behar remarked that Trump is jealous of former President Barack Obama because 'Obama is everything that he is not.' She added that, unlike Trump, Obama is 'trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green's song 'Let's Stay Together' better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it." "It's driving him crazy,' she added. Earlier this month, CBS announced the cancellation of the late-night comedy 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' after 33 years, a decision Trump celebrated on social media. White House responds White House Assistant Press Secretary Taylor Rogers responded to Behar's comments by referring to the comedian as 'an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.' 'It's no surprise that The View's ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump's historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air,' Rogers said in a statement. 'I'm allowed to say that, right?' The following day, Thursday, July 24, Behar revealed the daytime talk show was getting ready to go on summer break. In May, Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly told Trump that his name appears several times throughout the criminal case files on the late financier and convicted sex offender Epstein, according to CNN and the Wall Street Journal. Co-host Whoopi Goldberg, in the July 24 episode, announced the show is going on a break and will return in September 2025 for the new season. "Here's what's going on," Goldberg said. Later that day, Obama addressed a July 18 report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that claimed the former president 'manufactured and politicized intelligence" to undermine Trump's presidential victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2016. Obama dismissed the allegations against him, calling them the typical 'nonsense and misinformation' emerging from the Trump administration. He noted the U.S. intelligence community's conclusion that Russia tried to influence the 2016 election. On the next morning's episode of 'The View,' Behar defended Obama with a sly remark about Trump and the overrunning of the US Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. 'First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama,' she quipped. Who are the hosts of 'The View'? Superman star David Corenswet says Christopher Reeve's legacy didn't intimidate him ‘for a second'
As part of his promotional tour for the hotly-anticipated Superman, lead actor David Corenswet had a chance to discuss the legacy of Christopher Reeve, the actor behind one of the most iconic portrayals of the superhero in 1978's Superman and its associated sequels. This conversation happened with Christopher Reeves's son, Will Reeve, who's a journalist and a host for ABC Network's Good Morning America. Superman director James Gunn has shown considerable respect towards Christopher Reeves's legacy, having screened the documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story for the 2025 film's cast. When asked about Christopher Reeve's enduring legacy, and whether he ever wished it wasn't so hard to contend with, David Corenswet firmly replied, 'Not for a second.' David Corenswet and Will Reeve discuss Superman's enduring impact When speaking to Corenswet, Will noted that the actor was younger than him, leading to him joking that for the first time in his life, he was actually younger than Superman. He immediately clarified that he still looked up to Corenswet, but more as a peer and equal. When Will asked why people were so passionate and opinionated about Superman, Corenswet gave Christopher Reeve, a lot of credit, calling Superman's 1978 cinematic portrayal so effective that it inextricably linked Reeve to his role as the iconic superhero. Corenswet also noted that Christopher Reeve's later experiences with disability, and his very public activism, effectively made him a real-life hero in a manner separate from the iconic film, but not separate from the spirit of what Superman represents. When Will asked if Corenswet ever wished he didn't have Christopher Reeve's legacy to contend with, Corenswet firmly replied, 'Not for a second.' Corenswet then recalled watching the Super/Man documentary, and how it showed that Christopher Reeve also had his own doubts about taking on the Superman role and facing accusations of 'selling out.' David reminisced about his own father, who he lost six years ago. He said that he wanted to believe that both his dad, and Will's dad, would encourage him on the path he was following. Will Reeve has a cameo appearance in Superman During the interview, David also mentioned having Will on the set of the movie. Will later revealed that he actually had a cameo role in the film, playing a journalist trying to keep track of what's happening during a "busy" day in Metropolis. Will concluded the segment by saying that he didn't consider himself a "gatekeeper" for Superman's legacy in any way, but was still happy about his involvement with the film. James Gunn's Superman releases in theaters worldwide on July 11.
