All patients to register with ABHA ID, says NMC to all medical colleges and institutes
To ensure that authentic patient records are maintained by medical colleges, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has written to them directing that Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID should be recorded along with patient registration in the hospital. The ABHA card contains a unique 14-digit identification number called ABHA ID. The entire medical history, consultation details, and prescriptions are included in the ABHA ID. However, NMC maintained that no patient should be denied treatment without the ABHA lD. For authentic records In its letter to the dean/principals of all medical colleges and institutes under NMC, the body noted that the intent is to ensure availability of authentic records of patients and the clinical material in the associated hospital of the medical college. However, it has been noticed that this requirement is not being followed by all medical colleges and for all patients. As per the latest directive, colleges shall maintain the records of all patients. 'All in-patient records should have the entry of the unit faculty and senior residents with their name and signature authenticating that they have admitted and seen the patient. All investigative reports should be signed by a faculty in the corresponding department. Verification of the authenticity may be conducted by the NMC as part of the assessments. If at any point of time, the patient records are found to be fake; action shall be taken against the concerned faculty and the college/institute,' NMC said, adding that the move was decided in the Commission (NMC) 14th meeting held recently. All medical colleges are now required to ensure that ABHA lD be mentioned as a prerequisite for registration of patients visiting for the OPD/ IPD/ emergency services in hospitals attached to them. Additionally, all patients must have registration done with the ABHA lD in addition to the hospital's registration number, the letter noted. 'The Commission has endorsed a strong need to have authentication of patients and other clinical material in the hospital for decision on the prospects of a college (increased seats in UG or PG, new college, annual renewal of permission/recognition to admit students). The creation of ABHA lD is a very simple process and can be facilitated conveniently with the possession of Aadhaar card that has already been extended to people on a large scale,' the letters stated.

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar convened an emergency meeting on Monday with superintendents of hospitals affiliated with SMS Medical College and other medical education department officials to address the incident and implement new safety measures. "The life of every patient admitted to the hospital is invaluable and negligence at any level of treatment cannot be tolerated," Khimsar said during the meeting. The health minister said that under the Rajasthan Digital Health Mission, several key changes will be implemented, including mandatory inclusion of blood group information in patients' Ayushman Bharat Health Account ID (ABHA ID). This digital integration aims to ensure accuracy and swift access to critical information during emergencies. New guidelines mandate the constant presence of senior doctors and residents in these wards, along with deployment of only trained nursing and paramedical staff. ET Digital UP Conclave: ‘Technology empowering governance, driving industrial growth in UP'
Governance is empowered through digital technology, and the digital push in turn fuels industrial growth, experts said during a panel discussion on 'Digital Uttar Pradesh: Engine for Industrial Growth' during the ET Digital UP Conclave on Friday. Mission director, National Health Mission, UP, and secretary, medical, health and family welfare department, Pinky Jowel said, "Many new things have been introduced in the health sector in last two years. For example, E Kavach is a comprehensive digital health application that has data on all health schemes. It incorporates a registry of every individual in the state." "Every ASHA worker has smartphone and laptop. Similar is the case with ANMs and community health officers. They capture all data related to health systems into E Kavach, which helps us analyse and form policies for future. So, this is a digital revolution that even our lowest field workers can record all immunisation, screening of diabetes and hypertension, and we are adding more health issues to it," she said. "ABHA ID is another innovation incorporated along with E Kavach. It is a kind of smart card with a QR code, and it has the digitised health ID of an individual," she added. "The govt is working on technology-enabled governance, and to ensure this, we must take care of the basic needs of technology user. It should be error-free, transparent, and simple to use. The biggest example of technology-enabled governance is the booking of railway tickets. Earlier, it was tough to get a ticket in offline mode, but now, within seconds, a ticket is booked," said CEO, Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA), Mayur Maheshwari. "The power of technology is such that with meaningful interventions, we can make daily lives of common people easy. UPSIDA's digital platform was earlier used by around 800 users, but now around 11,000 people are using it monthly," he added. "In UP, 98% of industries are MSMEs, and the number is huge. This sector has less automation and a huge number of employees. In industrial areas, all land approval, bank loans, and incentive disbursement are online," said secretary, MSME and Export Promotion and Infrastructure & Industrial Development Department, Pranjal Yadav. He said the govt's focus was to make interactions online to make things easy for artisans and craftsmen. "We have come up with an Alexa kind of device, with sticky films that capture pathogens. It hovers over farms and detects pathogens, which is otherwise a challenging task in agriculture sector," said national sales head, ABM Knowledgeware Ltd, Lokesh Sharma. The session was moderated by managing director, Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Nikhil Agarwal.
