A video of a couple making an amazing discovery just minutes after getting the keys to their new home has gone viral on TikTok.
The moment was captured by 25-year-old Morgan Tait (@ in upstate New York. The clip shows Tait's boyfriend Erik, with whom she purchased the home, ripping open the carpet. Text overlaid on the video simply reads: "We got the keys 3 minutes ago." The video has amassed over 3.7 million views since it was shared on August 1.
Tait told Newsweek that they found "beautiful hardwood floors" underneath the carpet, "but they need some love."
Tait said she wanted to rip out the carpet because "I'm kind of a clean freak and hate the idea of having someone else's carpet in my home. I can never fully get it clean and who knows what happened on there."

'A Beautiful Surprise'
Tait said that the couple have not yet moved into their new home and are still working on it before they get settled in.
They have yet to make any other interesting discoveries during the renovation so far, but "we're still exploring," Tait said.
Social-media users were amazed by the couple's floor discovery.
User comfortablychaotic4 posted: "Congratulations! What a beautiful surprise under that carpet!!!"
Kaplan's in Kentucky wrote that it is "The best feeling," and user offintothewild commented: "It is the first thing we did as soon as we got our keys too :) so exciting."
User shababs_botten added, "good, carpet floors are disgusting," and Joshi agreed, saying: "Carpet floors should be made illegal. They're soo unhygienic and used to cover up gorgeous floors all the time."
User deeemjee posted that "carpet holds so much dust and dirt, and also leaves tiny plastic particles flying in the air when disturbed by walking or vacuuming."
ChipButty noted: "The amount of incredible flooring I've seen covered up by awful carpets over the years is something else."
The median spending on home renovations in the United States was reported to have risen by 60 percent in recent years, increasing from $15,000 to $24,000 between 2020 and 2023. This is according to a 2024 survey by Houzz, a home design website.
Kitchens were the most commonly renovated interior room, after guest bathrooms and primary bathrooms. One in five homeowners were reported to have taken on a living-room renovation project in 2023, the survey found.
