Man duped of 2.96 crorein online stock mkt fraud
Lucknow: A man was duped of over Rs 2.96 crore in an online fraud in Indiranagar.
According to an FIR lodged on Saturday, victim Apoorva Rai of Faridi Nagar said he was watching reels on the social media platform Instagram on April 19 when he saw an ad related to stock market analysis training.
When he clicked on the ad it took him to a WhatsApp user whose name was written as Tripti Grover ACI. She advised him to invest money in the stock market.
On April 24, he was made to download an ACI Century App by sending a link on his WhatsApp from the said number. After this, he logged into the app with his number and created an ID password. Thereafter, he was asked to join a WhatsApp group called ACI Exclusive Guidance Group, which included five members, including him.
In this group, screenshots of profit were sent daily and instructions were given for buying and selling QIP stocks, UC stocks and IPOs.
They also allotted them an (SME) IPO worth around Rs 1.5 crore.
Rai said the cyber fraudsters used to take money in different mule accounts for buying capital-raising tools. After depositing the money in them, they used to send screenshots of transactions. Thereafter, that amount started getting displayed in the app.
After this, they used to buy IPO, which later started showing profit on the money invested in that app. When he requested to withdraw 50% of the profit on May 27, the cyber criminals, citing different charges, transferred Rs 2,96,43,437 in 26 transactions from April 25 to July 6 in the name of investment in three govt banks.
He said he gave an application to cyber crime police station Lucknow. "I am giving the statement of the accounts from which the money was transferred along with the application," he said. SHO, cyber cell, Brijesh Yadav said that the matter is being probed.
