Cops Work Through Power Cut Using Car Headlights

Nagpur: Even the police have not been spared the power outages. Recently, ACP Sakkardara officers worked in near-total darkness, illuminated only by the headlights of a police vehicle.
Speaking to TOI, ACP Narendra Hiware said the power went out just as he returned from duty in the chief minister's convoy. "Three RTI appellants and three PSIs were waiting. So, we continued the hearing process using vehicle headlights," he said.
Hiware added that while such incidents are rare, the team opted to proceed with the work rather than delay it. "Since the appellants were already present, we didn't want to waste anyone's time," he explained.
Clarifying the recent blackouts, a senior Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) official explained these are due to underground cable damage in construction activities — damage that often remains undetected until days later.
The official said, "Weather transition is a challenging time. Even our equipment needs time to adjust. We carry out regular maintenance like oiling and tightening of wires, but some outages are inevitable."

He explained that often during road or drilling work, underground power cables suffer minor cracks. "Over time, the cracks worsen, leading to a power failure. We have to scan the entire length of the cable to identify one small fault."
He said the public is quick to blame MSEDCL, but few acknowledge the rapid response. "The outage in Narendra Nagar on Thursday evening was restored in just 30 minutes. In Reshimbagh, after a three-hour outage late Thursday night, we temporarily shifted load to another cable, and replaced the damaged one on Friday."
