Al Ain, May – The fourth edition of the UAE National Mixed Martial Arts Championship commenced today at ADNEC Centre in Al Ain, organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation. Over 300 athletes from various clubs and academies across the country are participating in this two-day event. The opening day saw fierce competition in the Youth D (10-11 years), Youth C (12-13 years), and Youth B (14-15 years) categories. Participants demonstrated excellent skill levels and discipline, illustrating the tremendous growth of MMA among younger age groups in the UAE. His Excellency Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation stated that this event is crucial for recognizing and developing new talent and strengthening the sport's grassroots foundation. The rising number of competitors with each edition shows mixed martial arts' outstanding success in the national sporting landscape. 'The enthusiastic participation from clubs, academies, and spectators greatly benefits athletes and enhances the event's atmosphere' added His Excellency. Oshkun Bahadirov from Uzbekistan, coach of TKMMAFIT Academy in Dubai, stressed the significance of such tournaments in the development of young athletes' abilities and confidence. He applauded the federation's efforts to provide professional platforms for promising talent. Marwan Hussein Al Nimer, the father of Youth C category participants Yassin and Zinedine, expressed his satisfaction in his sons' participation. He noted a substantial increase in their confidence and discipline since practicing the sport, which he attributed to the federation's-well structured environment. Hind Al Hashmi from ADMA Academy, who won gold in the Youth D 40 kg division, expressed her delight. She attributed her accomplishment to her coach's advice and her family's steadfast support. The tournament will finish tomorrow, Sunday, with final bouts in the Youth A (16-17 years) and Adults (18+ years) divisions, promising another day of exciting fights and demonstrating the depth of skill in the UAE's MMA scene.

Yousef Abdullah Al-Batran, board member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, praised the success of the championship, highlighting the strong turnout and broad participation from clubs and academies across the country. 'The UAE National MMA Championship supports the federation's vision of growing the practitioner base, identifying talent, preparing future champions, and strengthening the presence of mixed martial arts in the local sports scene,' he said. 'The involvement of different age groups reflects our commitment to building generations capable of competing at the highest levels locally, regionally, or internationally. 'This third edition is also a key milestone in preparing our athletes for upcoming competitions, especially the sixth edition of the IMMAF Youth World Championship, which will take place in Abu Dhabi in July 2025,' he added. Ekonian Andenet, a coach at ADMA Academy, said: 'Our team took part in today's competitions with more than 40 male and female athletes. This tournament is significant to us because it brings together top-level participants from clubs and academies across the country. It gives our athletes a valuable chance to test their skills, apply what they've learned in training, and prove they can win and earn medals. It also helps strengthen their preparation for international competitions.' Saif Al Jneibi from ADMA, who won gold in the Youth Boys welterweight (under-77.1kg) division, said: 'I'm happy to be competing in the tournament for the second time. I lost in the last edition by submission, but I didn't give up and kept training hard. I had strong support from my family, coach, and teammates at the club, and today I managed to take first place. The matches were tough. I thank the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation for their continued support and for organising top-level tournaments.'

The first edition of the UAE National MMA Championship continued to deliver excitement and fierce competition on its second and final day at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi. The event featured bouts in the adults' and Youth A (for athletes aged 16 to 17) categories, offering a glimpse into the future of mixed martial arts in the UAE. The Youth A category showcased exceptional skills, technical discipline, and tactical responsiveness, underscoring the potential of young athletes. Meanwhile, the adults' category brought intense and thrilling matches, raising the overall level of the championship and underlining its role in developing athletes, refining their abilities, and inspiring them to achieve greater milestones. Omar Al Raisi of Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club was delighted with his victory in the Youth A category, 56 kg. 'Winning the gold medal in this championship is a proud moment for me. It reflects the hard work and determination I put in during the preparation period. The matches were tough, but I managed to overcome the challenges through focus and the excellent support of the technical staff. This medal is just the start of a bigger journey, and I will continue to work hard to represent the national team in future events,' he said. Colombian athlete Fernanda Mendez from ADMA Academy thanked the organisers for giving female fighters a wonderful platform to showcase their skills. 'This championship is a great opportunity to grow and compete at a high level. It highlights the strong support for women's sports and the increasing presence of women in the field, which strengthens our position as athletes," she said. "My goal is to achieve the best results and continue to represent women honourably in this sport.' Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, underscored the championship's vital role in promoting mixed martial arts across the UAE. 'The diversity of participating categories fosters a comprehensive competitive environment, allowing athletes of all ages and experience levels to benefit from the opportunities provided by this championship,' he said. 'We are committed to creating pathways for youth to develop their talents and represent the UAE at their best in international competitions. By organising such championships, we reinforce the UAE's reputation as a leading destination for combat sports development in the region.' Antonio Inacio, Shabab Al Ahli Club coach, highlighted the significance of the championship as a platform for growth. 'This event serves as an excellent start to the season and is shaping up to be one of the strongest national championships, featuring a top-tier group of talented athletes," Inacio said. "The championship provides an invaluable development opportunity, allowing athletes to test themselves against high-performance standards.'
