Nurul makes history with Futsal World Cup call-up
KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Atikah Janah will officiate at the inaugural women's Futsal World Cup in the Philippines on Nov 21-Dec 7 in Manila — a first for Malaysian refereeing.
The 32-year-old Nurul is the only female futsal referee, among 23 Malaysians, on Fifa's official referees list for this year.
This group includes football, assistant referees and beach soccer referees.
"Congratulations to Nurul Atikah for being selected as one of the 26 referees for the women's Futsal World Cup. We wish her all the best in representing Malaysia on the international stage," FAM said in a statement.
Nurul, who received her FIFA badge in 2023, has also handled men's games, both locally and internationally. She refereed the final of the 2023 AFF Futsal Club Championship in Korat, Thailand.
