14-year-old student pleads guilty to punching teacher

The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors as the accused is a minor. By AGENCY 30 Jul 2025 05:01pm The 29-year-old secondary school teacher lodged a report on July 28 and the student was detained shortly afterwards in the Kajang area. Photo: Facebook PETALING JAYA: A 14-year-old student, who went viral in a video for punching his teacher, has pleaded guilty at the Kajang Magistrate's Court to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt on Wednesday (July 30). The removed student made the guilty plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil, reported Sinar Harian. The proceedings were conducted behind closed doors as the accused is a minor. The court has set Sept 11 as the date for sentencing, pending a character report from the Social Welfare Department. According to the charge, the teenager is accused of intentionally causing injury to a 29-year-old male teacher at a secondary school at 4.48 pm on Monday (July 28). The charge was made under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both, if convicted. The teenager's lawyer S. Priyalatha appealed for a low bail, citing that her client is a juvenile offender who is still in school. Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Syafiq Mohd Zulbahrin suggested a bail of RM5,000, considering the case's seriousness and the public attention it attracted after going viral on social media. However, the court allowed the student to be released on bail with a sum of RM1,000 with one surety. Previously, a 38-second video clip went viral on social media, showing an argument between two male individuals that ended with a student punching a male teacher in the cheek. Kajang district police chief Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the teenager had been detained for allegedly punching and threatening his schoolteacher after he was reprimanded for skipping a physical education class on Tuesday (July 29). In addition, the juvenile offender's mother, in her 40s, said that she has been caring for the teenager following her separation from her ex-husband. The woman said her only child regretted his actions against the teacher. "He has also apologised to me," she said when met outside the court.

Woman's face severely swells, infected after skipping proper makeup removal for 22 years

She began wearing makeup at 15 and from that point on, she assumed that simply rinsing her face with water each night was sufficient to cleanse her skin. Gao claimed that her face became swollen, distorted and unrecognisable. – Agency CHINA – A 37-year-old woman from China's Jilin province has caused a stir on social media after revealing that she had not properly removed her makeup in more than 22 years. The long-standing habit led to severe facial swelling, painful skin infections and pus-filled rashes. The woman, known only as Gao, shared her story in a video to highlight the importance of proper skincare, particularly for those who wear makeup regularly. Gao emphasised that she began wearing makeup at the age of 15, inspired by her mother's lipstick. From that point on, she assumed that simply rinsing her face with water each night was sufficient to cleanse her skin. 'I thought there was no need to remove makeup properly if I was going to wear it again the next day. So I'd just splash my face with water at night and apply more makeup the next morning,' she said. Although she suffered from mild acne over the years, she claimed her skin looked normal until earlier this year when she experienced a severe allergic reaction. Her face became swollen, disfigured and almost unrecognisable. Instead of consulting a dermatologist, Gao sought treatment at a beauty clinic where she received 'skin booster' injections. The results were devastating, her skin turned a purplish tone and the condition worsened. 'The itching was unbearable… I stayed indoors, afraid to go out or see anyone. I felt too embarrassed to make friends. 'At one point, it felt like thousands of ants were crawling all over my face,' she said. Gao also admitted to using cheap foundation as a teenager due to financial limitations, which she believed contributed to her skin problems. However, dermatologists have suggested that the damage may not be solely due to poor cleansing habits. 'Not washing your face for decades is harmful, but in this case, it likely involves harmful cosmetic products, steroid misuse, or repeated unregulated injections,' one expert explained. Gao's story has gone viral on Chinese social media platform Weibo, with mixed reactions. While some expressed concern, others were sceptical, questioning whether unremoved makeup could truly cause such extreme damage. Some users even accused her of fabricating the story to gain sympathy and online attention. — AGENCY More Like This

SFA recalls brand of instant vermicelli noodles due to undeclared gluten, wheat allergens

Haichijia brand's Hua Jia Jiang Hu (Clam Vermicelli) was found to have undeclared gluten and wheat allergens. PHOTOS: SINGAPORE FOOD AGENCY SINGAPORE – The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has issued a recall for a brand of instant vermicelli noodles due to undeclared gluten and wheat allergens. The recall involves all batches of Haichijia brand's Hua Jia Jiang Hu (Clam Vermicelli), which has been brought into Singapore from China by importer Hong Xin Da. 'Allergens in food could result in allergic reaction in individuals who are sensitive to it,' SFA said in a news release on June 11. It added that under Singapore's food regulations, food products that contain ingredients known to cause hypersensitivity must indicate them on packaging labels to protect consumers with food allergies. Gluten and wheat does not pose a food safety issue to consumers at large, except for those that are intolerant of, or allergic to, gluten and wheat, SFA said. Consumers who have gluten and wheat allergies or intolerances should not consume the product. They should also seek medical advice if they have consumed the implicated product, and if they have concerns about their health. Consumers may contact their point of purchase for enquiries. Indian PM Modi cuts short Saudi visit after Kashmir terror attack kills 26 tourists

Photo by -STR / SAUDI PRESS AGENCY SPA / AFP NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia visit on Tuesday (April 22) following a terror attack in the Jammu and Kashmir region. A total of 26 people were killed in Tuesday's attack in Baisaran meadow in the Pahalgam area popular with tourists. The attack by suspected unknown gunmen was widely condemned by Indian and foreign figures. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar, the region's summer capital, on Tuesday evening to review Kashmir's security situation. In a post on X, Modi stated "Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice." "Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakeable and it will get even stronger," he wrote. I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought… — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) April 22, 2025 Modi had travelled to the Saudi city of Jeddah on Tuesday for a two-day visit. The Indian leader held bilateral talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman before leaving for New Delhi on Tuesday night. He co-chaired the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council meeting to review bilateral relations in various areas. The Saudi crown prince condemned the attack and expressed his condolences on the loss of lives, India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said. Indian Opposition leaders also expressed grief and condemnation over the attack. Congress party senior leader Sonia Gandhi said she was "deeply saddened and devastated" to learn of the terror attack and described it as "an act of cowardice". "The entire country stands united against terror. We share a deep resolve to defeat these divisive and violent forces. We need to work to build the broad social consensus against terror that existed in the past," Gandhi said. The attack coincided with US Vice-President JD Vance's four-day visit to India. In a post on X, Vance said "Usha and I extend our condolences to the victims of the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, India. "Over the past few days, we have been overcome with the beauty of this country and its people. Our thoughts and prayers are with them as they mourn this horrific attack," he wrote. US President Donald Trump called Modi to convey his condolences. Trump expressed his full support to India "to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack," Jaiswal said. The attack has shocked Kashmiri people as it is likely to affect the scenic region's summer tourism season. "I'm shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination... No words of condemnation are enough," Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said on X. He described the attack as "much larger than anything we've seen directed at civilians in recent years." Jammu and Kashmir held its first local assembly elections in a decade in 2024 following which the Kashmir-based National Conference and the Congress party formed a coalition government headed by Omar. The attack shattered the region's relative calm and may pose new challenges to the six-month-old elected regional government to revive Kashmir's economy. "Historically, Kashmir has welcomed tourists warmly, making this rare incident deeply concerning. A thorough investigation is needed to bring the perpetrators to justice and examine potential security lapses," former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said. Indian-administered Kashmir is a federal territory under New Delhi's direct control with the local administration enjoying limited powers. The former state was divided into two federally ruled territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh in August 2019 after India abrogated Article 370 of the Indian constitution to take away the Muslim-majority region's quasi autonomy. - Bernama
