AI sector drew RM3.2bil in investments in first half of 2025 [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's artificial intelligence (AI) sector has attracted RM3.29 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2025. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the investments could potentially create 6,920 jobs under the Malaysia Digital initiative. He told the Dewan Rakyat that these investments mark progress by the National AI Office (NAIO) in developing the country's AI ecosystem. Gobind said this in response to a question from Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (PN-Kubang Pasu) on the progress of the NAIO. Meanwhile, Gobind also said that the Asean Digital Summit 2025 will be held from Aug 11 to 13, as part of efforts to strengthen Malaysia's position in the regional digital landscape. On cross-sectoral collaboration, Gobind said an AI impact study on the public sector involving 28 ministries is in its final phase, with 55 use cases identified. "These include AI-powered traffic forecasting, smart port management, radiology and hospital resource management, digitisation of medical records, agricultural supply-demand forecasting, pest detection systems, and workforce upskilling programmes," he said. He added that an "AI at Work" programme will also be used to enhance public sector operations. "This is important to realise our national transformation from social, economic and governance perspectives," he said.
