It's Official! Adhik Ravichandran To Direct Ajith Kumar's AK64, Calls It ‘A Treat for Fans'

Filmmaker Adhik Ravichandran has officially confirmed that he will be reuniting with Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar for their next project, tentatively titled AK64. The announcement comes on the heels of Ravichandran's recent success with the high-budget action-comedy Good Bad Ugly, which performed strongly at the box office earlier this year. While speaking to the media during a recent interaction, Adhik confirmed the much-anticipated collaboration. 'Yes, I'm doing the next film with Ajith Kumar sir. I'm very happy that I got an opportunity for AK64. It will be a different kind of film from Good Bad Ugly & will be a treat for fans," he shared. Ajith had earlier confirmed that he will kick off shooting in November 2025, aiming for a release around April or May 2026. In a chat with Indian Express, Ajith revealed how he's juggling his two big passions, acting and racing. He explained, 'Our racing season in Europe starts in March and ends in October, but for that one-off race that happens in Dubai in January. If I can squeeze in a film between the November to February period, I will then have a film release every year, and I can also focus on my racing program. I will be starting to film a new project in November this year, which will hopefully be released sometime around April or May 2026." What's really cool is Ajith's plan to keep up this balance long term. The superstar wants to keep releasing one film a year while staying dedicated to his racing career, as both a team owner and driver. Ajith Kumar has also previously expressed interest in starring in a racing-themed film. In an earlier interview, when asked about international action franchises, he had said, 'I guess maybe Fast and Furious sequel… or F1 sequel… I normally perform my own stunts in the film… so if there's a calling, why not?" When the interviewer suggested the title RedAnt Racing for an Indian version, Ajith responded with his signature humour: 'We can call it RedAnt Ajith Racing as well." Meanwhile, Adhik's last directorial, Good Bad Ugly, was made on a grand budget of Rs 300 crore and went on to gross approximately Rs 212 crore. The 2025 release marked the Tamil debut of Mythri Movie Makers and featured a star-studded ensemble including Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, Sunil, Prabhu, Prasanna, Priya Prakash Varrier, Jackie Shroff, Shine Tom Chacko, Tinnu Anand, B.S. Avinash, and Raghu Ram. The story revolved around a retired gangster forced back into action after his son is wrongly implicated in a crime.
