ALEX DUNNE HAS dropped to fifth in the standings for the Formula 2 Drivers' Championship after finishing ninth in the feature race in Budapest. The Offaly man was fourth in the standings last week having initially climbed to the top of the leaderboard after winning the feature race in Belgium. However, he was later hit with a 10-second penalty for 'failing to engage the start set-up procedure at the start of the Formation Lap'. Advertisement Dunne dropped to 10th after the penalty, with Red Bull junior driver Arvid Lindblad winning the race. Yet Linblad was later disqualified for a technical infringement, moving Dunne up to ninth. The 19-year-old Dunne slipped to fourth in the Drivers' Championship standings as a result. Championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli won the feature race and sits at the top of the standings with 154 points. Jak Crawford is second on 137 points while Richard Verschoor is down to third on 135. Luke Browning has moved up to fourth on 125 points, while Dunne completes the top five on 124 points. The Formula 2 drivers set off for their summer breaks now but will return to the track at Monza for Round 11 on 5-7 September.

ALEX DUNNE HAS slipped back to fourth place in the Formula 2 Drivers' Championship after taking seventh in the sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Dunne, who will start tomorrow's feature race in pole position, was aiming to close the gap on current leader Richard Verschoor today. But his seventh-place finish in a time of 41:54.105 sees him drop from third to fourth on 110 points. The Offaly man has been overtaken by Leonardo Fornaroli who won the sprint race in 41:49.222 to put him on 114 points. Jak Crawford is currently second on the Drivers Championship leaderboard with 116 points. ALEX DUNNE SLIPPED from second to fourth place in the Formula 2 Drivers' Championship after he was forced to retire from the Silverstone Sprint Race today. A collision with Gabriele Mini on lap eight led to Dunne suffering a puncture when he was in a tie for 11th place. The Offaly native made his debut in Formula One when he stood in for McLaren's Lando Norris during practice at the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend. Leonardo Fornaroli dominated the sprint earlier today and jumps to second in the overall standings on 96 points – six clear of Dunne – but it is Richard Verschoor who continues to lead the way out in front in the Drivers' Championship with 115 points. ALEX DUNNE FINISHED second in Sunday's Formula 2 feature race in Austria. The Offaly man, racing for Rodin Motorsport, started in seventh and worked his way through to finish 1.1 seconds off race winner Richard Verschoor. The result sees Dunne slip to second in the Drivers' Championship, with 108 points to Verschoor's 114. The 19-year-old had held a one-point lead heading into Sunday's race. Advertisement On Friday, Dunne finished fourth in his first ever F1 session at the Austrian Grand Prix as he temporarily deputised for Lando Norris. Dunne will be back in action at the F2 British Grand Prix next weekend.

IRELAND'S ALEX DUNNE has claimed a sixth-place finish at the Spielberg Formula 2 sprint race in Austria, ahead of tomorrow's feature race. The Offaly teen sensation was the story of the first free practice (FP1) at the Austrian Grand Prix on Friday, as he impressed on his Formula 1 debut. Dunne finished fourth in his first ever F1 session as he temporarily deputised for Lando Norris. The McLaren junior and current Formula 2 Championship leader earned three points today as he finished the sprint race in sixth place, and is the overall leader on 90 points. Advertisement Richard Verschoor is just behind on 89 points after taking fourth in today's sprint race which was won by Red Bull junior Josep María Martí. Joshua Duerksen finished in second place while Roman Stanek took third. Invicta Racing's Leonardo Fornaroli has pole position for the feature race tomorrow.
