Compiled by DIVYA THERESA RAVI, ALLISON LAI and R. ARAVINTHAN A NINE-year-old boy was allegedly transported in the boot of a car by his father and stepmother during a 2023 summer trip from Foshan to Guilin, China – an act that alarmed his mother and led to a custody and health rights lawsuit, Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported. The mother, known only as Wang, said the boy had to sit in the boot due to limited seating. Upset over the incident, Wang secured custody in November 2024 and filed a lawsuit in April to protect her son's health rights. The father, Liu, admitted the child was in the boot for one to two hours but claimed he otherwise sat in front. He said his SUV had airflow in the rear and they made several stops. Denying any mental abuse, Liu stressed he financially supported his son's education. Though he acknowledged the risk, he refused to apologise, claiming his son agreed to it. > A brown giant panda was caught on infrared cameras walking through snow at the Zhouzhi National Nature Reserve in Shaanxi, China, Oriental Daily reported. Woman driver nearly causes a train wreck

Compiled by BENJAMIN LEE, ALLISON LAI and R. ARAVINTHAN At least 15 trains were halted or forced to return to their stations after a woman was found driving her car directly on railway tracks near a station in India's Telangana state, as reported by Makkal Osai. Authorities, with the quick assistance of railway workers and the public, pursued the vehicle, successfully stopping it and pulling the female driver out. While her identity hasn't been released, it's understood she hails from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident, specifically looking into whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or experiencing any other incapacitating issues that may could have led to this dangerous act. Railway officers managed to stop an express train travelling from Bengaluru to Hyderabad just in time, averting a major disaster on the very same track. Families get homes after decades of waiting

Compiled by KHOO GEK SAN, ALLISON LAI and R. ARAVINTHAN AFTER a 40-year struggle, 32 Indian families in Perak have finally received the deeds to their homes, Makkal Osai reported. These families had built their houses on JKR-owned land after the Ladang Bikam plantation, where they previously resided, was sold off decades ago. State exco member A. Sivanesan confirmed that the state government intervened after JKR said it no longer needed the land. The government then took over the land and issued the long-awaited land deeds. Similarly, 52 families in Kampung Baru Kuala Bikam are seeing resolutions to their own nearly five-decade-long land issues. Some have already received their land deeds, while others are in the process. The Kampung Senggai families received their deeds from Sivanesan during the opening ceremony of the RM9mil Dewan Muhibbah Bidor.
