Stink Floyd blooms! Long-awaited event brings extended hours for visitors
AMES, Iowa — After days of anticipation, Reiman Gardens Stink Floyd is finally blooming! However, with only a few hours of bloom time, visitors had better get there quick! Stink Floyd is a corpse flower, or Amorphophallus titanum, that only blooms every 7 to 10 years. The bloom will only last for 24 to 36 hours, and the notorious stench, often compared to rotting flesh, is strongest earliest on. Reiman Gardens says the bloom started around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Caitlin Clark says flagrant foul for shoving Angel Reese was not 'malicious' 'The corpse plant is one of the rarest and most fascinating blooms on Earth, and we're thrilled to share this unique botanical phenomenon with the community,' said Andrew Gogerty, Manager of Marketing and Communications. Reimen Gardens is offering extended hours during the bloom, with Saturday's hours extending until 11 p.m. and Sunday opening at 7 a.m. and staying open till 11 p.m. Normal price of admission applies. General admission is $12. Youth ages 2-12 are $6. Two and under are free. Free for Reiman Gardens members and ISU students with ID. ISU President Wintersteen retires after 40 years with the school
AMES, Iowa — Word broke Friday morning of Wendy Wintersteen's retirement as the President of Iowa State University. On campus, families and graduates were scurrying on a graduation weekend schedule. Many had to have time for the picture with the ISU Campanile, with cap and gown. Most did not know of this change at Iowa State. 'It's been a fascinating journey, I am truly proud of Iowa State's extraordinary faculty and staff for their remarkable performance these past years,' said Wintersteen in a news release. 'Perhaps most of all, I will miss the amazing energy, talent and potential of our Iowa State students.' Students and alums learning of her decision were surprised. One student getting his PhD was thankful she supported efforts to launch new businesses. 'And as a result of the pitches that I've done and the experience of my classmates and I, we've had Wendy's full throat support for this,' said Bradley Swan, PhD Graduate from Minnesota. 'I know she's actually reached out, and they've had conversations about how they can support that program.' Wakonda Club prepares for Principal Charity Classic 'But it was a really big deal to have like the first female president of Iowa State,' said Meredith Lehman, an ISU alum from Gilbert. 'It kinda definitely brought change to issues that might not have been considered.' 'I think she did a really great job being the first woman president of Iowa State,' said Sadee Lynch, an ISU graduate from Boone. 'Such an example of, that women can do powerful things and lead the university and yeah, she's going to be missed.' Meghan Gillette, is President of the ISU Faculty Senate. 'From the faculty perspective, ultimately I just hope that the next president loves Iowa State, and Ames, and the state of Iowa as much as Wendy does,' said Gillette. 'I hope that the next president will continue working in the spirit of shared governance, and will continue to be student centric.' Gillette said as a teaching faculty member, her focus is on the students, and she said Wintersteen also shared that focus. 'I think, you know, as faculty first and foremost we are very invested in the students, we care deeply about the students,' said Gillette. 'President Wintersteen set a great example of what it's like to be student-centric' Wintersteen will retire in January of 2026. Strategic partnership: The opening ceremony of Metaltech and Automex 2025. It is held in collaboration with the Advanced Machinery and Engineering Summit. From left are Geonice Chong, Leeuwenburgh, Datuk Hanafi Sakri, Abdul Rahman and Mac at the event. KUALA LUMPUR: The Metaltech and Automex 2025 event which began yesterday is expected to showcase a new era of smart and green manufacturing. Themed, 'Sustainable manufacturing: from smart solutions to AI innovations', the trade show at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Mitec) will be held until May 17. It will feature more than 1,500 exhibitors and brands from 40 countries including Germany, South Korea, Taiwan, China, and Singapore. It was organised by Informa Markets Malaysia and is expected to draw more than 20,000 trade visitors. Participants will have the opportunity to view more than 5,000 advanced technologies on display including CNC machinery, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things, smart sensors, and energy-efficient manufacturing systems. They will also have the opportunity to watch live product demonstrations, attend technical seminars and knowledge sharing forums. This year's event also witnessed a strategic collaboration with the co-location of the Advanced Machinery and Engineering Summit (AMES) 2025, an initiative by the Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation (MEIF). The collaboration is aimed at strengthening the link between technological innovation and policy discourse, further accelerating industrial transformation across the region. MEIF president Mac Ngan Boon said AMES' launch was not to duplicate existing activities but create space for focused dialogues, sharper insight and coordinated action. Malaysian Industrial Development Finance Bhd (MIDF) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat emphasised on the importance of financial tools and partnerships to bring industrial innovation to life. 'MIDF supports this national agenda by empowering small and medium enterprises and manufacturers across key sectors including machinery, engineering, and automation to adopt modern, advanced technologies and upgrade their capabilities,' he said. According to Abdul Rahman, there has been a fundamental change in how industries operate, namely driven by automation, data, AI and smart manufacturing. 'These transformations are reshaping global supply chains and redefining industrial competitiveness and this is something we should not miss out on,' he noted. Informa Markets Malaysia country general manager Gerard Leeuwenburgh stressed on the role of sustainability in shaping future industry standards. 'Sustainability is no longer a trend, it's a necessity. From energy-efficient machinery and low-waste production methods to sustainable material sourcing and circular design, the innovations we are seeing across the show floor proved that going green is not just good for the planet but for businesses as well,' he said. Meanwhile, organisers are looking forward to the 30th anniversary of Metaltech and Automex which will be held from May 20 to May 23, 2025 at Mitec. 'This milestone event promises to be the biggest and boldest edition yet, spotlighting three decades of breakthroughs, partnerships, and progress that have shaped Malaysia's industrial landscape.' Subsequently, the International Automation Technology Exhibition will debut as a standalone event in Penang from Nov 4 to Nov 6, 2025. 'After more than 14 years of co-location with Metaltech, this expansion reflects Automex's growing influence and the rising demand for smart automation, robotics, AI, and machine vision technologies, especially in Malaysia's northern manufacturing corridor,' Informa markets said.
