Bentley Rebounding From Tariff Uncertainty to Seize the Sales Moment
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Automakers across the globe are struggling to balance the uncertainty surrounding the Trump Administration's evolving tariff negotiations. Bentley Motors, based in the U.K., has a clearer picture than most thanks to a deal agreed to in May and an executive order signed by President Trump in June. Bentley's U.S. business is bouncing back following the deal. "It's obviously been an interesting year," Michael Rocco, president and CEO of Bentley Americas, told Newsweek at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. "We're, I would say, in a better place than most countries [because of] negotiating the 10 percent tariff with the UK. But in doing so, we paused wholesales coming in for 90 days [before the deal]." During the uncertainty, vehicles shipped from the U.K. were subject to a 27.5 percent tariff. That 90-day pause allowed Bentley dealers across the U.S. to sell through the inventory they had on hand. But, Rocco is clear: "We didn't have enough cars on the ground, and we missed sales opportunities because of that." Bentley Continental GT Speed wearing the new Ombre by Mulliner finish. Bentley Motors When the company was able to resume shipments, it gave dealers access to a product lineup that had been enhanced in recent months. "July was really the first month we started wholesaling a lot of cars to the dealers, which they needed, and it was refreshing for them now that they have new products in the market," Rocco said. In 2024, Bentley sold just over 10,000 vehicles across the world, around 3,000 fewer than the year before as the company transitioned its lineup to new models. The U.S. was the company's strongest sales region. The automaker's refreshed lineup includes the well-received Bentley Continental GT Speed coupé, enhanced Flying Spur sedans and the new Bentayga Speed SUV. And, Bentley opened two new retail locations, in Santa Barbara, California, and San Antonio, Texas. While that lineup is enticing customers, Rocco is seeing the luxury market beginning to hold back from shelling out on big purchases. In June, Bain & Company, in partnership with Altagamma, said the personal luxury goods market is likely to shrink by 2 to 5 percent in 2025, the most probable scenario, marking the industry's first slowdown since the 2008-09 financial crisis, excluding the COVID-19 period. "Right now, there's hesitancy in the market. But the good news for us is our full range of cars are now here... So we're in a good place, but it's been challenging with the unforeseen disruptions, the things that we cannot control... [it] makes the market, makes the industry a little bit more difficult," he said. But Rocco likes his company's chances. "We see the playbook. Now we need to execute. I still believe the next couple of months there's going to be uncertainty. I do believe the fourth quarter will be strong, and it always is," he said. Bentley's fourth quarter business relies heavily on snowbird traffic, those making their way from northern states to the warmer climates of Florida, where they then purchase a new luxury car. Florida's our largest market, those people will come back to Florida. But, I do see the fourth quarter, being stronger and improving. There's always the discussion about [interest] rate cuts, the things we can't control. But the good news [is that we have a] full line of product... Our dealers are very encouraged with, you know, with where we're going in the future," he continued.

Bentley debuts hand-painted Ombre finish at Monterey Car Week
Bentley used the opulent backdrop of Monterey Car Week to showcase one of its most intricate paint processes yet: a hand-applied two-tone finish called 'Ombre by Mulliner'. Developed at the brand's Crewe Dream Factory in the UK, the technique blends two exterior colours across the length of the car. The process requires about 56 hours of labour from two paint technicians, who gradually layer tinted paint to achieve a uniform fade. Because each paint combination behaves differently during application, Bentley says every car will be subtly different and unique. The first model to receive the treatment is a new Continental GT Speed, displayed at this weekend's The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Its bodywork transitions from Topaz at the front to Windsor Blue at the rear, with the fade aligned to the car's rear haunch line. Matching 22-inch ten-spoke swept alloy wheels mirror the same colour split. Inside, Mulliner's design studio extended the gradient effect from the cabin's front to rear. Topaz leather dominates the front seats, steering wheel and instrument panel, fading into Beluga hide in the back. Dragonfly-coloured piping and stitching provide contrast, while the trim features Satin Beluga veneers. Standard options include Bentley's Rotating Display, a Naim audio system and the popular Dark Chrome interior package. After its Monterey debut, Mulliner confirmed that Ombre finishes – in three curated fade options – are now available to order through Bentley's global dealer network.

Lamborghini presents Fenomeno at Monterey Car Week
Automobili Lamborghini unveiled the Fenomeno1 recently at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The Fenomeno takes the company's most representative design elements to the extreme. It also pays tribute to Lamborghini's tradition of limited-edition models that began in 2007 with the Reventón. This is one of 29 units planned for production. Other limited-edition offerings include Sesto Elemento (2010), Veneno (2013), Centenario (2016), Sián (2019), and Countach LPI 800-4 (2021). Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Automobili Lamborghini said: 'The Fenomeno introduces the most advanced technical solutions in our history, pushing the boundaries of performance and design. It also honours the values and achievements that are a fundamental part of our DNA. 'Unveiling the Fenomeno at The Quail, a prestigious celebration of automotive excellence in our largest global market, offers the perfect setting for our customers to experience this limited-edition masterpiece up close.' Delivering a total output of 805kW, most of that from the naturally aspirated V12 engine and 180kW from three electric motors, the combination enhances driving dynamics and performance. The Fenomeno can evidently accelerate from zero to 100km/h in 2.4sec while top speed is said to exceed 350km/h. Its agility is supported by central locking forged rims and specially developed track-oriented Bridgestone tyres. Fenomeno takes its name from a renowned Mexican bull. If it sounds suspiciously close to 'phenomenal' that's because it means precisely that in Italian and Spanish. Also present at the event were the flagship Revuelto2 and the successor to the Huracán, the Temerario3. Both of these also sport hybrid systems, their combined outputs reach just over and just under 1000hp, respectively. For more information on the Fenomeno see here.

Meyers Manx and Tuthill Debut the LFG at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering
A new era in luxury off-road adventure, launching with six years of curated global driving experiences MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- At the prestigious The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week, Meyers Manx, the legendary creator of the original fiberglass dune buggy, and world-renowned rally specialists Tuthill unveiled the LFG, a limited-production off-road performance machine set to redefine the spirit of recreational driving. Only 100 examples of the LFG will be built, each offering owners exclusive access to six years of meticulously planned driving adventures across the globe. The journey begins in 2027 with the inaugural LFG Baja Tour, marking the 50th anniversary of Meyers Manx's historic victory in the first Mexican 1000 (now the Baja 1000). Designed for those who crave both comfort and capability, the LFG merges cutting-edge engineering with a playful, adventurous spirit. Underneath its carbon fiber body and ROPS (Roll Over Protection Structure) lies a choice of high-performance engines — including a 4-valve variant derived from Tuthill's celebrated "K" — paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox and 4WD featuring front, center, and rear limited-slip differentials. Twin five-way adjustable dampers with hydraulic bump stops, and BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres ensure the LFG is equally at home crossing desert dunes or carving through rugged mountain trails. Inside, a bespoke, climate-controlled cabin offers comfort on long hauls, while an Inconel exhaust, integrated GPS, and long-range fuel tank prepare the vehicle for journeys well beyond the beaten path. In moments, the enclosed cockpit can transform into an open-air buggy, letting drivers and passengers fully embrace the elements. "This project started as a dream between my long-time pal Richard and me, both in constant pursuit of the ultimate expression of freedom and performance," said Phillip Sarofim, Founder and CEO of Trousdale Ventures and Chairman of the Board at Meyers Manx. "We imagined the perfect Meyers Manx, brought Freeman Thomas on board to infuse his design brilliance, and merged it with Tuthill's engineering mastery. The result is raw, visceral, novel, and totally uncompromising. We call it LFG for a reason." "It's fairly well known that I love experiences, I love the effect it has on those that join us wherever we go," said Richard Tuthill, Director at Tuthill. "This, however, is slightly different. We are not necessarily bringing the stopwatch with us on these trips. I want to take people to see the most amazing parts of the world. I have been super lucky to see some life-changing scenery whilst Rallying, the memories I have as a result are immeasurable. These things change you. I think for the better. We crave experiences that we can look back on for the rest of our lives. We now have an amazing car to help us to create these in a unique way. The car looks fun, mischievous, it has a character that I have genuinely never seen or felt. BUT underneath it's PROPER – could we go to the moon and back in it? Probably yes, it has the capability to go wherever we point it, and we can do it safely and comfortably. In 2 minutes, it transforms from a fully air-conditioned enclosed cabin to a doorless buggy where the wind provides the air that helps us smile. It's very special. I can't wait to get started, please join in – LFG." More details, images, and specifications are available online.
