A Death Stranding anime is in the works

How much Death Stranding are you willing to fire into your eyes? The game's sequel arrives in just a few weeks, A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is leading up a live-action film adaptation, and now Hideo Kojima has confirmed that an anime is in production. Kojima teased the adaptation while discussing the more concrete live-action project in an interview with Vogue Japan . As picked up by VGC , the Metal Gear creator was talking about his cross-media ambitions for the Death Stranding , and comparing the planned film to other successful video game adaptations from recent years. "When it comes to adapting games into visual media, there are works like The Last of Us , which stays true to the original storyline, and films like The Super Mario Bros Movie which are more of a service to fans of the game," Kojima said, according to VGC 's translation. "While these works have their own merits, as a film enthusiast, I want to pursue the expressive potential of cinema. I aim to create a Death Stranding that can only be realised through film, one that could win awards at festivals like the Cannes Film Festival or the Venice Film Festival. In fact, we are also currently working on an anime adaptation." Kojima didn't offer any more information, so we don't know how far along the anime project is, who is making it, when we can actually expect it to come out, or whether it will tie in with the upcoming live-action movie. In the meantime, Norman Reedus' Sam Porter Bridges will return in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach , which is coming to PS5 on June 22. Kojima Productions dropped its second trailer for the game in March, which clocked in at 10 minutes and gave us a closer look at what we'll be getting up to in the sequel. (Spoiler alert: lots more walking.)

Death Stranding is getting a movie adaptation, which, if you've played it, you'll find odd because it's already the most film-like game to ever exist. It's being produced by A24 with A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski set to helm the project, and Hideo Kojima has already given him his seal of approval. As translated and shared online by Genki, Kojima spoke about the movie on Koji10, his radio show. Genki's translations state that Sarnoski is "smart, has good taste, and is a very nice person, so is happy he can direct the film." Also, the director "doesn't seem like a typical Hollywood person" and has played Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid 1, but Kojima stopped him from playing 2 and 3. It is unclear why Kojima would stop the director from playing those games. It could be that he wants the director to have his own take on the work rather than simply trying to emulate Kojima himself. If so, that's quite a big leap of faith and a huge compliment. Or, it could just be that the movie-loving Kojima wants to see someone else's interpretation because he could learn from it or appreciate it differently. Obviously, playing Death Stranding feels like a no-brainer, and Metal Gear Solid is a good way to get into the mind of Kojima and understand how he sees the world. Maybe the Metal Gear games are just too different from Death Stranding, and Kojima didn't want the director to be influenced into a more action-heavy style? In the meantime, check out everything we know about Death Stranding 2.

Norman Reedus Says 'Yeah, For Sure' He'd Play Sam Bridges in the Death Stranding Movie

Norman Reedus is completely open to playing Sam Porter Bridges in the Death Stranding movie, if the opportunity arises. While promoting the film From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, IGN asked Reedus the question, to which the actor replied 'If it was an option, yeah, for sure.' But Reedus was quick to make clear that there were no plans for it whatsoever at the moment. 'I don't know what's happening with it, right?' Reedus says, 'It's so pre-pre [pre-production], but yeah.' The Death Stranding movie was announced by Hideo Kojima and A245 in December 2023, but no details were announced at the time. To this day we still don't know if the film will directly adapt the game, or rather be a separate story that ties into the game world. At the time, Hideo Kojima said ' A24 was born into this world about 10 years ago, their presence is singular within the industry, they are like no other. The films they are delivering to the world are high in quality and very innovative. I have been attracted to their creations and they have even inspired my own work. Their innovative approach to storytelling aligns with what Kojima Productions has been doing for the last 8 years.' The latest development was in April 2024, when the film finally found its director with Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One). No other creatives or actors attached to the film are known for the moment. The world of Death Stranding is set to expand this year, of course, with the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. In the same IGN interview, Reedus talks about his experience working on the sequel. 'As far as working with him [Kojima] and understanding where his head's at, I don't think anyone can understand that, he's just that guy, and he's got great ideas,' Reedus says, 'But story-wise, I did know what was happening more. There's more action in it, there's more of a definite goal to get to. It's always a trip working on those things.' Death Stranding 2: On the Beach June 26 for PS5. The Death Stranding movie is currently in production at A24.

Norman Reedus would "for sure" star in A24's Death Stranding movie: "I don't know what's happening with it"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Norman Reedus says he would absolutely play Sam in the upcoming Death Stranding movie if it "was an option." "If it was an option, yeah, for sure," Reedus told IGN. "I don't know what's happening with it, right? It's so [production] right now. But yeah, yeah, of course!" You can watch the clip below. Death Stranding, created by none other than Hideo Kojima, was released in 2019 and featured voice and motion capture from the likes of Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. Taking place in an apocalyptic America, the player controls Sam Porter Bridges (Reedus), a courier who must deliver supplies to remote colonies known as Knot Cities - which make up what is known as the United Cities of America - and reconnect them via a wireless communications network. Death Stranding 2 is set to release in June, with Reedus reprising his role as Sam. Michael Sarnoski, who directed the critically acclaimed and commercially successful A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to write and direct - with some help from Kojima, of course (who won't let Sarnoski play Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 for some reason). Kojima also clarified last year that this is just one of many Death Stranding projects in the works (one being a movie that he wrote himself, but doesn't "have time" to direct). He also reportedly said that the upcoming film will be both "strange" and "unbelievable." Death Stranding does not yet have a release date. Initially Against Casting Lily-Rose Depp In "Nosferatu," This Casting Director Got Real About Why She Owed The Actor An Apology

Renowned casting director Kharmel Cochrane is opening up about some of her casting decisions, including one she was strongly against and another she fully supports. If there was a popular project out in the last few years, Kharmel might have had something to do with it. She casts for film, TV, commercials, music videos, and shorts. Some of her most popular work includes Nosferatu, Saltburn, A Quiet Place: Day One, Bob Marley: One Love, The End of the F***ing World, Rye Lane, The VVitch, The Lighthouse, John Wick: Chapter 4, and more. Over the weekend, Kharmel participated in a Q&A session at Scotland's Sands Film Festival where she explained why she needed to apologize to Lily-Rose Depp after initially dismissing her as a serious contender for the leading role of Ellen Hutter in the 2024 American horror gothic film Nosferatu. 'I had to text Lily-Rose Depp and say I'm sorry,' Kharmel said per Deadline, before shedding light on the casting process. "I had said absolutely no way to Lily-Rose Depp. I didn't think she could act." "I hadn't seen anything that I thought showed she could act. And I'm not even bothered by the nepotism thing. I think that's a whole other conversation. And then she auditioned. I was wrong. And I've got no shame in saying if I'm not right.' The 25-year-old actor went on to prove a lot of the naysayers wrong with this film. She starred alongside Bill Skarsgård, Emma Corrin, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, and Willem Dafoe. The film raked in over $100 million worldwide, becoming Focus Features' second highest-grossing movie at the domestic box office, behind Brokeback Mountain.
