Climb into spring break at ASCEND Erie's Spring Break Camp

A downtown rock climbing gym is helping kids stay active during spring break. ASCEND Erie's Spring Break Camp kicked off this week for young climbers ages 6-17. Fuller Hose Company to host annual Recruitment Open House The camp offered a three-day option and a two-day option at the end of the week. Activities include learning how to climb, boulder, slack-line and crate-stack. Erie L.L. Bean store now hiring ahead of opening 'It's great for the parents to get a little break from the kids but also know that the kids are in good hands and getting active and it's also great for the kids as well. Climbing is an activity that builds a lot of self-confidence in your body, helps you learn how to move and operate within the world,' said Chris Rosato Jr., general manager of ASCEND Erie. Deconstructing to reconstruct, work continues at former EMI site

If you're driving along Cherry Street you may notice more renovation taking place at the former Erie Malleable Iron building. The president and CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority Tina Mengine said 'deconstructing to reconstruct' is taking place. Climb into spring break at ASCEND Erie's Spring Break Camp The back south wall of the former building has been taken down and progress to rebuild it will take place this week with bricks being pointed. Mengine says the project is moving along but there is still a lot that needs to be done including taking off the remaining roof, new windows, and signage. She said funding has played a crucial role in the project. She recalled an obstacle that was recently encountered. Construction coming along at new PSP Summit Twp. barracks 'So we had two grants that were at risk totaling about $5 million we were able to resolve the one grant thanks to the help of the state which leaves us with about $3 million still at risk which were hoping to work through much like we did that first one so that does impact obviously if that can't be resolved,' she explained.
