Malaysia Must Nurture Tech Giants To Become ASEAN MNCs
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia must strive to nurture more technology (tech)-driven companies that can grow into ASEAN-based multinational corporations (MNCs) and eventually establish a global footprint, said Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Liew Chin Tong. He said that while there is often talk of supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in practice, more efforts are needed to develop local champions and create the region's technology-based MNCs. 'We often also talk about helping SMEs, but in actual practice, we also help foreign MNCs. Yet there is a gap where we do not fill -- we are not doing enough to create Malaysian and ASEAN technology-based MNCs,' he said in his keynote address at the SIDC-CASI Sustainable and Responsible Investment Conference 2025 today. Liew said that the capital market must begin to view the future of Malaysian companies and their roles from a fresh perspective. 'It is time for us to be bold to shape the capital market and the region, if not the world, with new ideas, ideas that will create sustainable economies and societies where people are prosperous and fulfilled -- some forms of a MADANI society,' he added. He also said Malaysia cannot continue to rely on the United States as the consumer of last resort, and therefore must diversify its export markets. However, he stressed that diversification alone is not enough if the rest of the world is not wealthy enough to consume goods from Malaysia. 'In order for our produce to be consumed, we have to ensure that there are consumers, and if there are none, we have to create them by making our people richer and becoming a middle-class society, and hoping that ASEAN will grow richer too,' he added. Organised jointly by the Securities Industry Development Corporation (SIDC) and the Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI), the three-day conference kicked off at the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today.

ASEAN Change Management Conference 2025 returns with stronger regional voice
BUILDING on the success of its impactful debut last year, the ASEAN Change Management Conference 2025 (ACMC) is returning to Kuala Lumpur on Oct 1-2 with the quest to unite leaders and practitioners across Southeast Asia for bold leadership and a people-first focus. With the theme Advancing Results, Change Done Right!, ACMC 2025 which will be staged at Wyndham Grand Bangsar promises deeper regional engagement, stronger collaboration and practical insights that go beyond theory into real-world transformation. These subjects will be explored through masterclasses, interactive workshops, leadership dialogues and design sprints, thus offering participants practical tools they can apply in real-world settings. Honda Malaysia gets new MD, EdgePoint Towers appoints COO
HONDA Malaysia Sdn Bhd has appointed Narushi Yazaki as the new MD/CEO, effective April 1, to succeed Hironobu Yoshimura who led the company for the last three years. Yazaki has over 25 years of extensive experience with Honda, having held key leadership roles across multiple countries, including Japan, Thailand and the US. Prior to this, he was attached to corporate administration operations at Honda Motor Co Ltd in Tokyo, Japan, according to the company's statement. In a separate appointment, EdgePoint Towers Sdn Bhd, a part of EdgePoint Infrastructure Sdn Bhd, an ASEAN-based independent telecommunications infrastructure company, has appointed Ravin Vickneswaran as its COO. Ravin has been with EdgePoint since 2021, according to the company's statement. In his new role, Ravin will work closely with teams across the organisation to drive the company's vision across various departments, including engineering and implementation, property and permitting as well as operations and maintenance. EdgePoint Towers CEO Muniff Kamaruddin said as the company rapidly scaled in Malaysia, it was crucial that it expanded its management bench strength. Prior to joining EdgePoint, Ravin has held key senior positions in telecommunications companies (telcos) in Malaysia and Myanmar, including as head of 5G enterprise business in Celcom Axiata Bhd. To date, EdgePoint Towers is the second-largest independent telecommunications infrastructure company in Malaysia with 1,800 sites in its portfolio. — TMR
