The New RSX Won't Be What You Remember At the beginning of this year, Acura showed us a camouflaged prototype of a brand-new all-electric SUV to battle the Mustang Mach-E. And like its future rival, this would controversially revive a dormant nameplate that had traditionally only been applied to a sporty-looking coupe. But the original RSX was basically an Integra, and since that has returned as a hatchback, and since two-door coupes are not typically the strongest sellers, Acura has decided to revive a familiar name to sell an electric crossover to combat the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the aforementioned Ford. Watch More ASIMO's Soul Lives On In The RSX Source: Acura Arguably the world's most famous humanoid robot (Optimus who?), ASIMO was first unveiled by Honda in 2000, with its name representing an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility. The project was formally ended in 2018, with Honda instead focusing on implementing ASIMO's technology in other areas, including cars. In January of this year at the Consumer Electronics Show, the automaker revealed the Honda 0 Series SUV and Saloon while announcing a new ASIMO operating system that would offer OTA updates, up to Level 3 self-driving technology, and a digital user interface (so don't expect to see many physical buttons or knobs in the cabin; screens will dominate the experience). The idea of robot tech in cars isn't new, though, though, with Honda announcing plans to put ASIMO-derived posture control in its cars the mid-2000s. The 0 Series SUV, a potential rival to the award-winning Kia EV9 three-row, has already been killed off, but plans for ASIMO OS are very much alive, launching in the RSX crossover, which will be the first car atop a new in-house-developed EV platform. RSX Arrives In 2026 Although Acura has only given us one image to look at, it has been generous with the details, adding that it expects the production version of its 'dynamically styled SUV' to arrive at dealers in the second half of 2026 with styling influence from last year's Performance EV Concept (depicted above). Although a high-riding vehicle, this concept is admittedly very sporty-looking, with a cutaway behind the front doors giving us Aston Martin DBX vibes and a coupe-like roofline with muscular rear haunches pulling off a decent Ferrari Purosangue impression. The rear lighting elements aren't too far off the Alpine A390, another U.S.-bound electric coupe SUV (if tariffs don't kill its chances). The forward-leaning 'sharknose' front fascia that made design icons like the E32 BMW 7 Series so timeless (RIP, Ercole Spada; July 26, 1937-August 3, 2025) has been adopted on the Performance EV Concept, but the solitary teaser image of the RSX shows a slightly less aggressive slant to the front end and more realistic headlight strips either side of an illuminated Acura badge. KYOTO (Kyodo) -- Japanese electronics maker Murata Manufacturing Co., Waseda University and two other companies teamed up to develop humanoid search and rescue robots as part of a wider effort to revive Japan's formerly world-leading robotics sector. The four entities, including Kyoto-based robot maker Tmsuk Co. and technology service company Sre Holdings Corp. in Tokyo, said in late June that they plan to develop a robot with all Japan-made components, such as sensors and precision instruments. The robot is designed to stand 3 meters tall, weigh 300 kilograms, walk at around 5 kilometers per hour and lift 100 kg or more. Given its demographic challenges, the companies believe disaster-prone Japan needs to develop such rescue robots. "We want to build a robot that is much stronger than a human and can move rubble," Tmsuk Chairman Yoichi Takamoto said at a press conference in late June. Japan was once a global leader in humanoid robotics, with Waseda University having developed the world's first full-scale bipedal robot, WABOT-1, in 1973. Honda Motor Co. led humanoid robotics technology with ASIMO, whose final model was released in 2011. Hoping to play catch-up with U.S. and Chinese manufacturers, the four partners aim to develop a pilot model by the end of 2026 and a mass-production version by March 2029, they said. "There are many technologies in Japan that we can be proud of," Tomotsugu Oba, a manager at Murata Manufacturing's Mobility Robotics Business Development Section, said at the press conference. Oba said the project is Japan's "first step toward the goal of returning to the global (stage)." There are no humanoid robots anywhere in the world that have been developed to replace humans in search and rescue operations, they said.
