‘UP's push to AYUSH to create jobs, strengthen rural economy'

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is expected to witness a surge in demand for medicinal crops as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced plans to start 100-bed ayurvedic wellness centres in every district and establish AYUSH colleges in six underserved divisions, officials said. The CM announced the expansion of AYUSH services across the state during the inauguration of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur on Tuesday. "The vision will give a push to holistic healthcare and rural growth by boosting the demand for medicinal crops. This will enhance farmers' incomes and create jobs across cultivation, processing, and supply chains, strengthening rural economy," an official said. "Data trends show that the export of Ayurvedic products rose dramatically from USD 2.85 million in 2014 to USD 18 billion in 2020. This underscores an increasing international trust and demand for traditional Indian health systems," he said. "CM Yogi Adityanath has a personal and traditional association with yoga and Ayurveda and holds great influence as the leader of the Nath sect. AYUSH wellness centres to come up in every UP district: CM

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced that following the establishment of Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH University in Gorakhpur, the Uttar Pradesh government will now set up at least one 100-bed AYUSH health and wellness centre in every district. The CM made the announcement while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH University—Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University. (HT file) These centres will offer key treatments such as Panchakarma and Ksharasutra. In addition, the state government has decided to open one AYUSH college at each of the six divisional headquarters that are currently without such facilities. The CM made the announcement while addressing the inauguration ceremony of Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH University—Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University. Welcoming President Droupadi Murmu, the chief guest, and governor Anandiben Patel, the special guest of honour, Yogi stated that both the central and state governments are continuously working to ensure holistic health for all. Prior to 2014, India's traditional systems of medicine had not gained global recognition. After taking office in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi formed the Ministry of AYUSH, integrating Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Siddha, and gave traditional medicine a national platform, he said. The CM said the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University is a result of PM Modi's vision for comprehensive wellness. With the inauguration complete, the university will now move forward with its admission process. It will offer medical services across various traditional systems including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Yoga, Naturopathy and Siddha. The university will also emerge as a major centre for research and development in the AYUSH sector. Yogi highlighted that the university will play a significant role in providing employment opportunities to both farmers and youths. Through this institution, cultivation of medicinal plants will become a viable source of income. He said the university will also be instrumental in promoting traditional medicine as a new form of health tourism. The CM expressed confidence that the university will emerge as a premier destination for health tourism in the future. During his address at the inauguration ceremony, Yogi also spoke about the connection between Ayurveda and the Nath tradition. He explained that Rasashastra and metallurgical sciences in Ayurveda are linked to the legacy of the Navnath and 84 Siddhas. The credit for systematically organising these disciplines, he said, goes to Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath.

"Ayurveda and Unani, which were lagging, are progressing today": UP CM Yogi Adityanath at Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University inauguration

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Attending the inauguration of the Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University in Gorakhpur on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Ayurveda and Unani are progressing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing the gathering, CM Yogi said, 'Today is a historic day for the entire region when the President has inaugurated Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University. We all know that before 2014, India's healthcare service was not globally recognised. We are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for combining Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy, and creating the AYUSH ministry in the country.' 'Ayurveda and Unani, which were lagging, are progressing today, and the state government will take them forward,' he added. Discussing the AYUSH system and Indian medicine, he stated that the government plans to establish AYUSH Universities in six Commissionerates. He said, 'If we talk about India's AYUSH system, Rasa Shastra was originated by Lord Gorakhnath Nath. We have six such Commissionerates in the state where the AYUSH system is not established; we will build AYUSH Universities there too.' 'We will establish the AYUSH system, which can give life to a person, so that we can move towards better health,' CM Yogi added. President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the AYUSH University on Tuesday in Gorakhpur. According to a press release, the foundation of the AYUSH University was laid on August 28, 2021, by then-President Ram Nath Kovind following an invitation from CM Yogi Adityanath. The university is situated on 52 acres in Pipri, Bhathat, approximately 25 kilometres from the Gorakhpur district headquarters. The university is affiliated with 98 AYUSH colleges across the state. These include 76 Ayurveda, 10 Unani and 12 Homoeopathy colleges. Before the university's formation, these colleges were overseen by separate institutions. With the establishment of Mahayogi Guru Gorakhnath AYUSH University, regulation has been brought under a single system. The university has been in operation since the 2021-22 academic session and currently conducts examinations and manages academic activities for the following programs: BAMS, MD, MS in Ayurveda; BUMS, MD, MS in Unani; and BHMS, MD in Homoeopathy. The Chief Minister initiated the concept of the state's first AYUSH university after the central government grouped Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy under the AYUSH category. Along with Ayurveda, Unani, and Homoeopathy, the university will also include disciplines like Yoga, Naturopathy, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa in the future. A plan is being prepared to initiate academic and treatment activities in these streams. (ANI)
