Gangster's brother who led attack that killed cop arrested
Ghaziabad: Four days after a shootout with aides of a gangster led to the death of a Noida police constable, the prime accused, Aadil, was arrested after a gunfight near Wave City. The 22-year-old is the brother of the gangster Qadir. He is believed to have led the attempt to ambush the cops on Sunday night when the seven-member team from Noida went to pick up Qadir, wanted in connection with more than two dozen cases of vehicle theft. Constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal was shot in the head as the gangster's accomplices tried to prevent the cops from taking him away. They pelted the police car with stones and fired at the cops to free Qadir. Sonit Kumar, another constable, was injured by a stone aimed at his head. DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said a team tracked Aadil's movement towards Dasna Ikla Road and asked the Wave City SHO to set up a checkpoint. "The suspect, on a bike, was signalled to stop. As he reversed his bike to escape, he slipped on the road and fell. Seeing the police team approach, he fired at them with the intent to kill. He was shot in the leg during retaliatory firing," the DCP said. Cops recovered an illegal firearm, one live and two used cartridges, and the bike from the accused. Earlier, an FIR was registered at Masuri police station against Qadir – against whom there's already a Gangsters Act case – his brother Aadil, and unknown persons under relevant BNS sections. Aadil is the 15th person to the arrested in the case. Security was heightened in Nahal since Sunday night, with a PAC battalion and several police personnel maintaining vigil.

In Ghaziabad village where cop shot dead, many families leave, scared by ‘carpet searches'
Ghaziabad : Since Sunday night's shootout with aides of a gangster that led to the death of a 27-year-old Noida police constable, many families have left Nahal village amid round-the-clock police surveillance, questioning of locals and 'carpet searches' to find those who had attacked the police team. Police have so far made 14 arrests, but prime suspect Aadil remains elusive. That night when Saurabh Kumar Deshwal was shot in the head, police were successful in arresting Qadir, the gangster who they had gone to pick up after a tipoff from an informer. Aadil is Qadir's brother and is believed to have led the attempt to ambush the cops when they were on their way out of the village with Qadir. Nahal's streets have been deserted for three days, but now, so are many of its houses, with locks hanging on them as fear of arrest haunts the village around 3km off NH-9. Nahal has a population of 40,000. Village Pradhan Tasawwar Ali told TOI on Wednesday, "About 70% of the people living here have left. They need to go out every day to earn and feed their families, but an atmosphere of fear now prevails here. So they have left and are staying with their friends or relatives. They have left their livestock behind. We don't know how to take care of them." The Pradhan said sudden summons by police for questioning had scared locals. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Alarma con cámara a precio especial en Buenos Aires (ver oferta) Verisure Alarma Empieza ahora Undo "We met the police commissioner on Wednesday and requested that innocent people should not be disturbed through night searches or by suddenly being taken into custody. Two days ago, 35 people were taken. Today, 15 people were rounded up. These are all innocent people. They have no information," said Ali. A resident of the village who left recently told TOI many feared being arrested. "My family has been living in this village for more than 50 years now. We are a family of 14 and have never seen anything like this in our lives," the 30-year-old said. "I have come to a relative's place with my whole family. It became difficult to even sleep at home with continuous sirens of police vehicles scaring people. We will only go back once the situation is normal. " Ali said village representatives had told the police to "punish the guilty but leave the innocent alone". "Many families have young children, pregnant women and elderly. We are ready to support the police as responsible citizens to catch the criminals and get them punished. But not at the cost of the innocent," he said. "It's also not easy to be living here for those who haven't left because one can barely go out. Besides, shops are closed. I want police to pick up the real culprits at the earliest so the rest of the village can live peacefully again," another local resident said. DCP (Rural) Surendra Nath Tewari told TOI that 14 people have been arrested after they were identified from CCTV footage. "No one has been detained. People are only being brought in for questioning and then let go. We have identified a few more people from the footage, but we are yet to get a clear and complete footage from the night. We are also working on that," he said. Tewari said PAC and police personnel from 5-6 stations were deployed at the village to maintain law and order. "Such incidents tend to spark fear among people, so some families have left the village," the DCP said, adding that senior cops met the village's pradhan and assured them that no unnecessary arrests would be made.

11 more arrests but no lead yet on who shot Noida constable
Ghaziabad: Eleven more persons were arrested in connection with the murder of a UP Police constable on Sunday night. But police are still looking for the brother of gangster Qadir, whose arrest led to the attack on the cops in Nahal village. The latest arrests bring the total number of apprehended suspects to 14, including 24-year-old Qadir. Musahid and Abdul Khaliq, both residents of Nahal, were arrested near the Ganga canal in Masuri on Tuesday, according to Surendra Nath Tiwari, DCP (rural). The others who were nabbed through Tuesday and Monday night included Javed, Mursaleen, Inaam, Mehtab, Mehraj, Haseen and Mursalim. All are from Nahal village. Late on Monday night, a team of cops had nabbed Nanhu and Abdul Salam — who were allegedly part of the group that attacked the police team with stones and gunfire. The incident unfolded when constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal, part of a seven-member Noida police team, was fatally shot while attempting to arrest Qadir around 11pm on Sunday. The gangster's brother Aadil and his accomplices allegedly orchestrated the attack, pelting the police vehicle with stones and opening fire to prevent Qadir's arrest. An FIR was registered at Masuri police station against Qadir, who already faces charges under the Gangsters Act, his brother Aadil, and other unidentified individuals. The charges included murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty. Police, however, are yet to identify the shooter. "Analysis of numerous CCTV footage from Nahal village and the Masuri area has been challenging due to poor image quality. While we cannot definitively identify the shooter, Aadil remains our prime suspect. More than seven police teams are actively searching for the remaining accused. So far, it seems more than 15 people were involved in the attack," DCP Tiwari said. A video of the incident, uploaded on social media, showed Saurabh's body lying in a pool of blood as colleagues rushed him to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw, with local residents gathering at the scene. The aftermath has led to heightened security measures in Nahal village, with a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) battalion maintaining vigil. Local businesses remain shuttered for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. Qadir's family home stood deserted as well as relatives fled the area. "We've maintained our presence in the village for over 48 hours. The local market is closed, and residents can only venture out for emergencies. We're conducting thorough checks on suspicious individuals in the region," a PAC officer said.

AIMIM charts bold Bihar expansion, pushes for grand alliance entry
1 2 Hyderabad: With the Bihar assembly elections slated for Nov this year, Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is signalling a strong intent to align with the Mahagatbandhan (grand alliance), comprising the RJD, Congress, and Left parties, and expand its footprint beyond Seemanchal. Owaisi recently addressed two rallies in Champaran, wearing a tricolour turban and chanting 'Pakistan murdabad' and 'Bharat zindabad,' clearly seeking to reposition his image and appeal to a broader base. Party national spokesperson Aadil Hasan pointed to the Congress party's tacit support for the AIMIM in the recent MLC elections in Telangana, where Congress MLAs voted for AIMIM's Mirza Riyazul Hassan Effendi. "If Congress could back us in Telangana, why not in Bihar? It's a state election, not a national one," Aadil argued. The AIMIM's earlier bid to join the Mahagatbandhan reportedly failed due to RJD resistance during the Lok Sabha elections. Questioning the inconsistency, Aadil said: "If the Mahagatbandhan could take back the Vikassheel Insaan Party, which was with the NDA in 2020, why not AIMIM?" Akhtarul Iman, AIMIM's Bihar unit president, said they have conveyed alliance interest through MPs and MLAs. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "No single party can take on the BJP-JD(U) combine alone. Like-minded forces must come together. The BJP uses communal narratives, but many opposition parties use Muslims merely as vote-banks. Owaisi stands against both," he said. Sources said Owaisi's strong anti-terrorism messaging is central to this rebranding. In his Champaran rally, slogans of 'Aatank ke khilaaf, Owaisi ka jihad' (Owaisi's fight against terrorism) echoed across the grounds. The party wants to counter perceptions that it caters only to Muslims and is aiming to field candidates from Rajput, Dalit, and other marginalised communities, analysts said. In 2020, the AIMIM won five of the 18 seats it contested — all in Seemanchal. Four of those MLAs later defected to the RJD. Now, the party plans to contest nearly 50 seats across Bihar, with a presence in every region: Mithilanchal, Magadh, Shahabad, Bhagalpur, Patna, and Champaran. "Our focus is still Seemanchal, but we are expanding. Owaisi will take the final call," Aadil confirmed. With a renewed alliance pitch and broader caste and regional representation, AIMIM is betting on a bigger, more inclusive role in Bihar's political landscape, a senior analyst said. The AIMIM has already announced Rana Ranjit, a Rajput from East Champaran, as its candidate for the Dhaka assembly constituency. More non-Muslim candidates are expected, aiming to break the party's image as a niche outfit. The party has been actively engaging with people across Bihar on core issues—flooding, high infant mortality, corruption, migration, joblessness, and human trafficking, especially in neglected areas like Seemanchal. AIMIM leaders have also been meeting community groups, students, and farmers in different regions to build support from the ground up. They argue that existing alliances have failed to address regional disparities, and the AIMIM's growing grassroots presence makes it a serious player in the upcoming elections. In the 2020 polls, AIMIM was part of the Grand Democratic Secular Front, alongside the BSP and LJP. It won Amour (Purnea), Jokihat (Araria), and three seats in Kishanganj — though only Akhtarul stayed with the party. The rest shifted allegiance to the RJD.
