Kept fast to avoid acting, became star due to luck, one song went viral with over 10 crore views, name is...
Dhanush, born Venkatesh Prabhu Kasthuri Raja in Chennai on July 28, 1983, belongs to a noted film family—his father, Kasthuri Raja, and brother, Selvaraghavan, are both established directors. But despite his lineage, Dhanush had no love for acting. As a child, he was drawn to the kitchen, not the camera. He dreamed of becoming a chef and even rebelled when his family decided to send him to acting school. What did he do to avoid acting? Dhanush went to extremes; he stopped eating, hoping his family would change their minds. When excuses didn't work, he turned to fasting and prayer. But fate had other plans. Reluctantly, he stepped into the world of films and, in time, found his rhythm and passion. How did he make his mark in cinema? He debuted in 2002 with Thulluvadho Ilamai, directed by his father. Recognition came in 2006 with Pudhupettai, helmed by his brother, where he played a gangster. But it was Aadukalam in 2011 that earned him national acclaim and his first National Film Award for Best Actor. In 2011, he casually recorded a song titled Why This Kolaveri Di. Written in 6 minutes and recorded in 35, it became India's first YouTube hit, crossing 100 million views and turning Dhanush into a viral sensation. Bollywood and beyond Absolutely. Dhanush's Bollywood debut came with Raanjhanaa (2013), where he played a small-town boy from Banaras and left a lasting impression. He went on to star in Shamitabh alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Atrangi Re with Sara Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar. His Tamil hits include Maari, Kodi, Asuran, and Karnan, the first and last of which also won him National Awards. Dhanush's Hollywood debut In 2022, Dhanush appeared in The Gray Man, sharing screen space with global names like Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. With that, he joined the rare league of Indian actors making an international mark.

Officers must act as a strong bridge between government and people, upholding Dravidian values: Deputy CM Udhayanidhi
Officers must act as a strong bridge between the government and the people, upholding the values of the Dravidian model, as there are only eight months to the elections, said Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin while chairing a multi-departmental review meeting at the Karur Collectorate on Wednesday. Mr. Udhayanidhi inaugurated 13 completed development projects worth ₹58.25 crore, including the newly built ₹40 crore Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Bus Stand at Thirumanilaiyur. He also laid the foundation stone for three new projects totaling ₹3.35 crore and distributed welfare assistance valued at ₹162.22 crore to 18,332 beneficiaries across various sectors. The welfare measures included free house site pattas for over 13,000 families, marriage and disability aid, petrol scooters for differently abled persons, loans under MSME schemes, and support for women entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs). Financial assistance was also extended to farmers, artisans, students, and senior citizens, along with housing orders under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme. Stalin also urged students and young athletes to make active use of the State's 'Aadukalam' mobile app to engage with sports development initiatives. 'The Aadukalam app allows youth to access real-time information on sports schemes and infrastructure. I encourage everyone to utilise it fully,' he said. He lauded the distribution of sports kits to 157 village panchayats across eight unions under the Kalaignar Sports Scheme but called for regular audits to ensure proper usage. He also directed officials to revive inactive women's SHGs, ensure prompt grievance redressal, and extend benefits under schemes like Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam and the Chief Minister's Dream Home Scheme to all eligible persons. Highlighting the upcoming elections, he urged officers to uphold the efficiency and inclusiveness of the government's outreach programmes. Mr. Udhayanidhi also visited the Thalir SHG paper bag manufacturing unit in Thirunagar. The unit, run by 12 women since December 2021, produces eco-friendly bags with support from cooperative bank loans and government training. He reviewed their operations and encouraged their entrepreneurial efforts. The day's events were attended by MPs S. Jothimani and K.E. Prakash, MLAs Balaji, R. Manickam, R. Elango, and K. Sivagama Sundari, Collector M. Thangavel, Karur Mayor K. Kavitha, and other senior officials.

Kuberaa director Sekhar Kammula on staggering collections in Tamil: The word of mouth is strong but it is not converting
It's been a week since filmmaker Sekhar Kammula's film Kuberaa released in theatres. The film, which is headlined by Tamil actor Dhanush, has been seeing phenomenal box office earnings in the Telugu speaking states than in Tamil Nadu. Even as the makers have stressed that Kuberaa was simultaneously shot in Tamil and Telugu, the film's performance in Tamil has been low. Director Sekhar Kammula reacts to this. Dhanush and Sekhar_Kammula Stream Dhanush's powerful performances in films like Aadukalam, Mayakkam Enna and Thiruchitrambalam on OTTplay Premium right now Kuberaa has been witnessing good financial returns in Telugu than in Tamil. Despite a star like Dhanush headlining the film, the Tamil Nadu collection is not even close to Telugu numbers. Speaking about this to OTTplay, Kuberaa director Sekhar Kammula said, 'In Telugu it has been exceptional. Even the overseas Tamil circuit is going well. But the domestic Tamil market, I was expecting lot more, and I hope it would catch up, because the word of mouth is strong but it is not converting into box office.' Also read: Kuberaa Review: Dhanush mesmerizes in Sekhar Kammula's boldest film yet The filmmaker was also in praise of Dhanush's performance as a beggar in the film and called it 'top-notch', adding that he thinks no other Indian actor would play the role this well. 'I was in awe of him and thought it was a moment of pride. So, I thought it would catch on in Tamil and really hope that it happens. It is not common that this kind of stories come up often and people take up such roles. I thought it is a special thing and I have a hope,' he added. Kuberaa, co-starring Nagarjuna, Rashmika Mandanna, Jim Sarbh, and others is a social drama thriller which explores the themes of capitalism and financial fraud. The film revolves around a beggar who is one among the four chosen to be a benamy for a rich entrepreneur's business deal.
