Is Dulquer Salmaan starrer 'Lucky Baskhar' sequel directed by Venky Atluri in the works? Here's what we know

Helmed by director Venky Atluri , the film has recently made news after the director spoke about the sequel to the film. According to a report by 123Telugu, the filmmaker in an interview revealed that he is actively working on the script for the sequel to 'Lucky Baskhar'. He also took the opportunity to clarify that, unlike 'Lucky Baskhar', his earlier hit 'Sir', starring Dhanush, will not be getting a sequel. Interestingly, Venky Atluri is currently busy shooting his next project, 'Suriya 46', with Kollywood superstar Suriya, but he has made it clear that the 'Lucky Baskhar' sequel is a definite priority once his current commitments are wrapped up. Released last year, 'Lucky Baskhar' featured Dulquer Salmaan in the titular role and won acclaim for its gripping storyline, the cast's performance and engaging screenplay. The film was a period financial thriller that revolved around Baskhar, a lower-middle-class bank cashier. Dulquer's character finds himself entangled in the risky world of financial scams as he struggles to support his family amidst mounting debts and humiliation during the late '80s and early '90s in Bombay. Meenakshi Chaudhary played the female lead, while the supporting cast included talents like Ravi Prakash, Ajay Ghosh, and Rajendra Prasad . The film's music was composed by GV Prakash Kumar. Dulquer will be seen in 'Aakasam Lo Oka Tara', directed by Pavan Sadineni. The film's poster reveals a rustic, rural backdrop with Dulquer donning traditional attire, and it will release in multiple languages including Malayalam and Hindi.

As the Mani Ratnam directorial has been received with mixed-to-negative reviews, netizens have complimented Dulquer Salmaan's exit from the film. Taking to the internet, many users complimented the actor's departure from the project with one saying, 'Turning down the role in Thug Life was one of the GREATEST decisions Dulquer Salmaan ever made!' Another user said, 'After the trailer everyone trolled him from his decision now after watching the movie everyone is celebrating his decision.' For those unaware, Thug Life had previously announced that Dulquer Salmaan will portray a key role as one of the core cast members. The makers officially announced his inclusion along with actors like Ravi Mohan and Gautham Karthik. However, all three of them later opted out of the project due to the production delays. While it is not confirmed which role DQ was supposed to play, it is believed that he was later replaced by Silambarasan TR. Talking about the movie, Thug Life is a gangster actioner featuring the tale of Rangaraaya Sakthivel. A feared mafia kingpin, he once engages in a shootout with his rival, which causes an innocent man to lose his life. As Sakthivel adopts the late person's son, Amaran, he raises him as his own and makes him a mafia member. After several conflicts, the once beloved foster son turns into his biggest enemy, prompting a showdown that would lead to their deaths. With Haasan and STR in lead roles, the film has Trisha Krishnan, Abhirami, Nassar, Joju George, Ashok Selvan, and many more in key roles. On the other hand, Dulquer Salmaan is currently involved in the shoot of his next Malayalam movie, I'm Game. With Aakasam Lo Oka Tara and Kaantha in his lineup, the actor is expected to make a cameo appearance in Kalyani Priyadarshan and Naslen starrer, produced by DQ himself.

Dulquer Salmaan's 'I'm Game' begins filming, marks his return to Malayalam cinema
Dulquer Salmaan's 40th film, titled I'm Game, has officially gone on floors with a pooja ceremony held on 3 May 2025. The launch event saw the presence of many cast and crew members, including Antony Varghese Pepe and Tamil filmmaker-actor Mysskin. However, Dulquer himself was not seen at the event, as he is currently completing the shoot of his Telugu film Aakasam Lo Oka Tara. He is expected to join the I'm Game shoot in June. Directed by RDX fame Nahas Hidhayath, I'm Game is backed by Dulquer's own production house, Wayfarer Films. The team shared the start of filming on social media, writing, 'At long last we begin shooting of our highly ambitious film, I'm Game! We have assembled a wonderful team of technicians and actors and have been waiting to get started. Wishing the entire team good luck and prayers for a fantastic first schedule!' Earlier in March, Dulquer had shared the first-look poster of the film, which featured a wounded hand holding a playing card, hinting at mystery and action. He captioned it: 'The Game is On! #RollYourDice #ImGame.'
