Lady Longhorns improve to 2-0 in Globl Jam tournament
As Longhorns women's basketball prepares for the 2025-2026 campaign, they have been able to shine on the national stage. This week, the Longhorns have participated in the Global Jam and showed why expectations are high. On Thursday, they continued their winning ways when they faced off against Team Canada.
In their latest win, Texas was led by a familiar face in Madison Booker. The Longhorns' star set the tone offensively with 18 points while dishing out eight assists. She also got some help from Aaliyah Crump, who scored 13 points. As the talented duo proved too hard for Team Canada to stop, they helped built a lead that Texas would not surrender.
Just like in their win over Team Puerto Rico, Texas got contributions from everyone on the roster. The bench chipped in with 26 points, and all nine players that entered the game scored. If the reserves can continue to be a problem, then this could be a hard team to stop in conference play.
As the Longhorns shone offensively, they also forced Team Canada to make a lot of mistakes. The Longhorns recorded 16 points of turnovers and led for the majority of the game. That is a similar formula that led to their win over team Puerto Rico earlier in the week.
After a day off, Texas will be back in action when they take on Team Brazil tomorrow. It will also be a chance for the Longhorn to inch closer to a Globl Jam Tournament title. Saturday will mark the last game of the tournament before the medal round. If Texas can replicate its play from earlier this week, it will be in a good position to come home with some hardware.
While Texas will face a good opponent in Team Brazil, the Longhorns have shown in this tournament that they are full of talent and a tough team to stop regardless of who is on the floor.
