When Rekha Shaped Shilpa Shirodkar's Eyebrows And Said ‘You Look Like Me'
Last Updated: Rekha shared a piece of advice with Shilpa Shirodkar's mother that resonated deeply. Shilpa Shirodkar, who is all set to make a smashing comeback to the lights-camera-action world with the upcoming supernatural thriller Jatadhara, recently opened up about a heartwarming memory with legendary actress Rekha. The Bollywood stars shared screen space in the 1989 film Bhrashtachar, and their off-screen bond continues to be a treasured chapter for Shilpa. In an interview with an entertainment media portal, she reminisced about a moment that left a lasting impression on her. During a candid chat with Zoom, Shilpa recalled an interaction during their early days in the industry. The actress revealed, 'I remember Rekha ji had done my eyebrows for the first time. And then she told me, 'Aapko bohot log bolte honge na you look like me.'" She smiled and further added, 'A lot of people used to say I looked like Rekha ji—some jhalak of her in me. I love her! She is just so loving and so lovely. It was so beautiful." But it wasn't just a compliment that Shilpa took to heart. During a magazine shoot, Rekha also shared a piece of advice with Shilpa's mother that resonated deeply. 'She told my mother during the shoot, 'Aapko ek baat bolti hoon. Ye industry bohot addictive hai. Yahan pe chhodna bohot mushkil ho jata hai. Lekin har cheez samay pe honi chahiye. Bas itna yaad rakhna (Let me tell you one thing. This industry is very addictive. It becomes very difficult to leave it. But everything should happen at the right time. Just remember that)," Shilpa revealed. She added, 'For my mother, those lines really left a mark because she always said kaam apni jagah hai lekin shaadi honi chahiye. Sab time to time hona chahiye (Work has its place, but marriage should happen. Everything should happen in time)." Shilpa made her Bollywood debut in Ramesh Sippy's Bhrashtachar alongside Mithun Chakraborty and Rekha. She then went on to star in hits like Aankhen, Kishen Kanhaiya, Khuda Gawah, Hum and Bewafa Sanam. In 2024, she made a brief but impactful return to the limelight by participating on Bigg Boss 18. Despite her strong presence and composed demeanour, Shilpa was unexpectedly evicted just before the grand finale. The season concluded on January 19 with Karan Veer Mehra taking home the trophy, while Vivian Dsena and Rajat Dalal emerged as the first and second runners-up. Now, Shilpa is all set to step back into cinema with Jatadhara, directed by Venkat Kalyan. The supernatural fantasy thriller features a stellar cast including Sudheer Babu, Sonakshi Sinha, Rain Anjali and Divya Vij. The film is produced by Prerna Arora, Shivin Narang, Aruna Agarwal, Akshay Kejriwal and Kussum Arora. It is worth noting that Sonakshi will make her Telugu debut with the film. Shilpa Shirodkar's return to the big screen promises to bring the same grace and charisma to Indian cinema. First Published:

When Chunky Pandey compared his Bollywood struggles to Amitabh Bachchan's
Chunky Pandey, known for 'Aankhen', faced career challenges in the late 1990s, shifting to character roles. He humorously compared his struggles to Amitabh Bachchan's break, clarifying he chooses not to work on low-quality projects. He also addressed misconceptions about his acting and valued diverse character roles over typical hero parts. Chunky Pandey , who rose to fame with his role in David Dhawan 's 'Aankhen', experienced significant career challenges by the late 1990s. Struggling to secure leading roles, he shifted to character roles. During this difficult time, he humorously compared his situation to Amitabh Bachchan 's, who was on a break from films, saying, 'He wasn't working, I wasn't getting work.' In a later interview, Chunky explained the context behind this remark. Clarifying the Joke Talking to Lehren, Chunky explained that he frequently makes jokes about other actors and decided to make one about himself as well. He expressed his admiration for Amitabh and hoped that the megastar would not take offense, clarifying that the joke was intended to reflect on his own situation rather than target Amitabh. Challenges in Choosing the Right Roles Chunky clarified that his challenge was not a total lack of work offers but the quality of roles available to him. He mentioned that although he receives around two film offers daily, they are not the types of projects he wishes to take on. Many of these are low-budget, C-grade films with unknown producers and directors, often produced under difficult conditions and sometimes left incomplete. Having already worked on several such films, he is determined not to repeat that experience. Choosing Not to Work In summary, Chunky explained that he is not working by choice, which places him in a similar situation to Amitabh Bachchan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Compra de Banco Guayaquil CFD con sólo $250 y empieza a ganar un segundo sueldo Mercados de Capital Undo Addressing Misconceptions About His Acting Skills During the interview, Pandey confronted the misconception that he lacked acting talent, a criticism he faced early in his career. He pointed out that no one ever labeled him a non-actor, although he admitted to having to do as many as 32 retakes and experiencing some confusion on set. He emphasized that while no one ever said he was bad in their films, many described his performances as average, good, improving, or better. Reflecting on the Limitations of Hero Roles vs. Character Roles Reflecting on his career, Chunky expressed that playing a conventional hero often offers limited scope because such roles typically follow a fixed formula, with the hero always portrayed as good and fighting for justice or family. He believes that character roles, like the ones he played in 'Tezaab' and 'Lootere', provide more variety and creative freedom, allowing an actor to explore different aspects of their craft. When Chunky Pandey compared his tough times in Bollywood with Amitabh Bachchan. ‘Woh kaam karta nahi, mujhe kaam milta nahi'
Chunky Pandey, who once captured the industry's attention with his performance in David Dhawan's Aankhen, later faced his fair share of professional setbacks. By the late 1990s, the actor found himself struggling to land substantial roles and eventually transitioned to playing character parts. During this challenging period, Chunky once made a humorous comparison between himself and megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who had taken a hiatus from films at the time, highlighting the stark contrast in their situations. In a resurfaced interview with Lehren, the actor clarified the intent behind the comment: 'Woh kaam karta nahi, mujhe kaam milta nahi. (He doesn't work, I don't get work.)' In the interview with Lehren, Chunky said, 'Dekho main doosre actors par bohot joke banta hoon toh maine socha ki main aap par bhi joke banao. See, I'm a big fan of Amit ji, I hope he doesn't mind, kyunki maine unke par joke nahi banaya, apne upar banaya. (I make a lot of jokes about other actors, so I thought I'd make one about myself too. I'm a big fan of Amit ji. I hope he doesn't mind because the joke wasn't about him, it was about me.)' Clarifying further, Chunky explained that it wasn't a complete lack of offers that troubled him, but rather the kind of roles being offered. The actor said, 'Jab main keh raha tha ki mujhe kaam milta nahi, main kehna cha raha tha ki mujhe apne kisim ka kaam nahi milta. Waise mujhe rooz 2 pictures ke offer aate hai lekin woh kisim ki picture main nahi karna chahta hoon. (When I said I don't get work, I meant I don't get the kind of work I want. I get offers for two films every day, but they're not the kind I want to do.)' He added, 'You know, C-grade films jahan producer ka kuch pata nahi hai, director kaun hai aur picture aadhi banegi… kaise banegi… gareebi mein banegi… zabardasti banegi… maine aise 4-5 pictures kar chuka hoon. Main ye mistake nahi karna chahta hoon… I don't want to do this mistake again. (C-grade films where you don't even know who the producer is, the director is unknown, and the film might not even be completed. If it gets made at all, it's made under poor conditions, forcibly. I've done four or five such films already. I don't want to repeat that mistake.)' Also Read | Chunky Panday on facing financial crisis, and restarting from scratch: 'I didn't have money to buy alcohol for a party Summing it up, Chunky said, 'So I'm not working because I don't want to work, so I'm in the same position as Amitabh Bachchan.' In the same interview, Chuky Pandey also addressed the perception that he couldn't act, a tag that had followed him at times early in his career. 'Non-actor toh kabhi kisi ne nahi kaha. Haan, kabhi kabhi maine 32 retake diye… kabhi confusion hua… (No one has ever called me a non-actor. Yes, sometimes I've had to do 32 retakes… sometimes there was confusion…)' He insisted, 'No one has said that Chunky Pandey was bad in their film. Everybody has said he was average, he was good, has improved… he was better.' Reflecting on his journey, Chunky shared his thoughts on how playing a traditional hero can be limiting compared to character roles. 'Woh kya hota hai when you do a regular hero… there is very little scope. Kyunki hero good good rehta hai, insaaf ke liye ladhta hai, apni maa ke liye ladhta hai, apni behen ke liye ladhta hai… you get stuck in a formula (When you play a regular hero, there's very little scope. The hero is always good, fighting for justice, for his mother, for his sister… you get stuck in a formula),' he said. 'But when you do a character role like I did in Tezaab, Lootere, toh uss mein variations aa jaata hai… ek scope milta hai kuch karne ka. (But when you play character roles like I did in Tezaab and Lootere, it gives you variety—it gives you the scope to do something.)'
