Karan Johar says he may turn Dharmendra-Shabana Azmi's love story in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani into a standalone film
Filmmaker Karan Johar made his directorial comeback after seven years with the 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, and Shabana Azmi in lead roles, the film was a major box office success. In a recent interview, Karan reflected on the film's place in his body of work and also addressed the much-discussed kiss between Dharmendra and Shabana.
In a chat with The Times of India, Karan Johar said Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is right up there with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and My Name Is Khan when it comes to the films he holds closest. 'It (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani) is right up there with My Name Is Khan and, of course, my first directorial Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which remains special as it brought a smile to my father's (Yash Johar) face. Our production house was suffering huge deficits when I made Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. It brought huge financial respite to my dad.'

Fans appreciated Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani for its engaging storyline, fresh take on relationships, and strong performances. One moment that particularly caught audiences by surprise was the lip-lock between veteran actors Dharmendra and Shabana Azmi, which quickly became a talking point after the film's release.' Addressing the same, he said, 'There is a separate love story there. I may one day make a film on their love story in 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'.'
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also featured Jaya Bachchan in a pivotal role. The romantic comedy revolved around a couple from contrasting family backgrounds, who decide to live with each other's families before getting married.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan Johar is now looking forward to his upcoming production venture Dhadak 2, featuring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in the lead roles. It is set to hit theatres on August 1.
