Bus driver gets 1-year RI for passenger's death
Visakhapatnam: Chief judicial magistrate M Pradeep Kumar on Friday convicted Aarji Prakash, APSRTC bus driver of Walter depot in Vizag, to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for causing death of an aged woman with his rash and negligent driving.

Senior assistant public prosecutor Mylapilli Adinarayana stated that on September 30, 2023, driver Prakash had stopped the bus on route number 48A at Chilakapeta near Lakshmi Talkies, under One Town police station in the city. Passenger Bonangi Ramulamma attempted to board the bus when the driver suddenly started moving without checking the foot board. Subsequently, she fell and suffered severe injuries.
The woman was shifted to King Goerge Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Kotla Narayanamma, daughter of the deceased,lodged a report with One-Town police station. Woman sub inspector T Trinathri investigated the matter and filed the charge sheet.
The prosecution proved the guilt beyond reasonable doubt under section 304A IPC against the accused. The court recommended the district legal service authority for payment of compensation to the dependants of the deceased under 357A CrPC.
