Forgotten Liverpool striker set for MOMENTOUS Wrexham move

Danny Ings set for Championship move Danny Ings, who made 25 appearances for Liverpool's first team, left Merseyside in 2019 to join Southampton. During his time with the Saints Ings thrived, even earning a call up to the England squad, but the 32-year-old's career stuttered when he swapped Southampton for Aston Villa in 2021. Advertisement Ings has only managed to score 19 goals in 121 matches for Villa and West Ham since he left the south coast, but now the former Red may have a chance to revive his career. According to the Daily Mail, Championship newcomers Wrexham – famously owned by Hollywood duo Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds – are interested in bringing Ings in this summer, with the striker's contract at West Ham set to expire at the end of June. The report states that Wrexham's A-list owners are desperate to reach the Premier League and that they believe targeting experienced top-flight players will help them achieve that goal. Ings showed flashes of brilliance whilst at Liverpool, but if he can rediscover his Southampton form he will be a shrewd addition for the north Wales side. Advertisement The striker's current West Ham teammate, Aaron Cresswell, spent time in Liverpool's academy before moving to Tranmere aged 15 and is also named in the report as a player of interest for Wrexham. Cresswell has played over 300 Premier League matches and is also due to leave East London on a free transfer this summer.

Phil Parkinson's side will be back in the second-tier for the first time since the 1980s, having finished as runners-up in League One. 6 6 Having secured three consecutive promotions, the Red Dragons are looking to get their squad up to scratch for a Championship campaign. Throughout Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney 's ownership, Wrexham have targeted experience. The likes of James McClean, Ben Foster, Jay Rodriguez and Steven Fletcher have all previously been recruited in recent seasons. According to the Mail, Wrexham are looking at more veteran transfer targets. They claim that former Liverpool forward Danny Ings is on their radar. Ings, 33, signed for West Ham from Aston Villa for £12million in January 2023. It was recently confirmed that the three-cap England international would be leaving London Stadium at the end of this season. This means that Wrexham could potentially sign him on a free transfer. Fulham skipper Tom Cairney is also of interest to the Red Dragons. The midfielder, 34, is set to be out of contract at Craven Cottage this summer - although boss Marco Silva would like him to stay. Speaking about Cairney and his team-mate Kenny Tete, Silva recently said: "You all know that between the football club, and Kenny and Tom Cairney, there have been discussions, conversations with their representatives, their agents, and all that stuff. "Let's hope we can have good news for us soon." SunSport recently revealed that several Wrexham stars are set for promotion wage hikes. West Ham review of 2024-25: One of their worst seasons in recent history

Many would have rejoiced when West Ham United's uninspiring season finally ended against Ipswich Town on Sunday. It has been a campaign of sackings (Julen Lopetegui), fights, appointments (Graham Potter), more sackings (Tim Steidten), a car accident and departures (of stalwarts Aaron Cresswell, Lukasz Fabianski and Vladimir Coufal). The Athletic reflects on their 2024-25 efforts, culminating in a 14th-place finish, that caused more misery than joy. One of the worst since West Ham's current spell as a Premier League club began in 2012. Teams of a similar stature, such as Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, have made significant progress, whereas West Ham look unrecognisable in comparison with their own recent highs. The most telling element is having three managers (David Moyes, who left at the end of last season, summer successor Lopetegui and his January replacement Potter) in nine months. Advertisement Everything clicked in the 1-0 win away at Arsenal in February. New manager Potter's tactics worked like a charm, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka assisting captain Jarrod Bowen for the goal. West Ham only won twice more in the 11 matches between that memorable day at the Emirates and their victorious finale in Ipswich. But if they can consistently reprise that level of performance next season, it bodes well for Potter's prophecy of an exciting future under him. This was a choice between Bowen's superb strike from outside the box against Ipswich and his volley against Forest. The latter edges it, and shows why the England international is considered one of West Ham's best technical players. The squad's unity during the 2-1 December victory over Wolves, days after Michail Antonio's car accident. Antonio, who sustained a broken leg, had spoken to his team-mates before the match. Tomas Soucek held up nine fingers, representing Antonio's shirt number, when celebrating his opener, and Bowen held up Antonio's shirt after sealing the 2-1 win. There are some strong contenders for this category, such as the appointment of Lopetegui, the loan signing of Brighton striker Evan Ferguson and Steidten's departure as technical director. But the events following the team's late capitulation in a 3-2 defeat at Brighton last month feel appropriate. Potter rarely loses his cool, but he almost reached breaking point in his post-match interview. He expressed his frustration at West Ham's inability to see games out, and the magnitude of the situation took its toll. 'I'm not a robot, I'm a human being as well,' he said. 'I give everything to what I'm doing. Of course, I'm going to be upset and frustrated. I have to come here and speak calmly to you guys, but that's not how I'm feeling inside. If you want me to swear, I can swear.' Advertisement Niclas Fullkrug being candid following the 1-1 home draw with already-relegated Southampton earlier in April. 'I'm very, very angry that we played like this because we had some minutes where we showed what we can do against an opponent like that at home. We showed that we can have good possession, that we can go in-behind and that we have the chances to score again. But the motivation… sorry, we were s***. I'm very angry.' Mohammed Kudus' underwhelming season. He has been ineffective, struggling to adapt to Potter's 3-4-2-1 system and not playing at the level which made him a sought-after talent. The 24-year-old attacker has only scored twice (in that defeat at Brighton and on Sunday at Ipswich) this calendar year. It is in huge contrast to his performances in 2023-24, where he showed his brilliance against Freiburg and Manchester City, ending that campaign with 14 goals and six assists. Ollie Scarles developing into a first-team regular has been one of the highlights of the season. The 19-year-old made 15 Premier League appearances, and his form led to an England Under-20s call-up in March. Scarles was named the club's young player of the season, and his breakthrough will offer hope for fellow academy kids Freddie Potts and George Earthy. Midfielder Potts, 21-year-old son of West Ham Under-21s manager Steve Potts, and Earthy, 20, had season-long loan spells in the second-tier Championship at Portsmouth and Bristol City respectively. Attacking midfielder Earthy was voted City's young player of the year as they made the play-offs, while Potts has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract extension with West Ham to summer 2029. 'I've been at West Ham since I was five. I grew up in the area, and I've wanted to become a West Ham player my whole life,' Potts said in a March interview with West Ham's website. 'Hopefully, this (coming) pre-season, with the new manager coming in, brings a fresh opportunity. From what I've seen, it looks really exciting, so I'm eager to be part of it. My goal is to break into the first team and show what I can do at the highest level.' Five for Potter is a fair assessment, as there have been mitigating factors for his slow start: he inherited an ageing squad, Fullkrug and fellow summer signing Crysencio Summerville (who hasn't played since) got injured in his first game in charge, and he does not know his best XI. The former Swansea City, Brighton and Chelsea manager won five of his 18 league games, losing eight and drawing five. Advertisement Opinion among supporters has been divided surrounding Potter's ability to turn things around. But there are similarities to Moyes' initial struggle in the first season of his second spell at West Ham. The Scotsman, now into a second stint as Everton boss, had a paltry return of two wins in his first 12 league games after succeeding Manuel Pellegrini in December 2019. But the following summer's arrivals of Coufal, Said Benrahma and Craig Dawson helped the club finish sixth in 2021, securing Europa League qualification. Potter will hope to follow suit next season. The futures of Lucas Paqueta and Kudus. The investigation into Paqueta's alleged betting breaches is expected to conclude in June. The Brazil international's career has been in limbo for two years, and last May, he was charged by the English Football Association (FA) with deliberately getting booked in four Premier League matches so he and/or his friends could benefit by betting on that happening. Paqueta, who denies any wrongdoing, could face a lifetime ban from the sport if found guilty. Kudus has a buyout clause, only active for the first 10 days of July, valued at £80million ($108.4m) for clubs in continental Europe, £85m for Premier League sides and £120m for Saudi Arabian ones. His contract expires in the summer of 2028, with a one-year option, but the Ghana international is expected to leave this summer, to enable West Ham to reinvest the fee in their team.

Wrexham linked with second England international in bad news for James McClean

Wrexham linked with second England international in bad news for James McClean Wrexham are reportedly keen on signing Aaron Cresswell after the experienced left-back confirmed he would be leaving West Ham upon the expiration of his contract The potential arrival of Aaron Cresswell could be bad news for Wrexham captain James McClean (Image:) Wrexham have been connected with a potential move for another England international in a development that could spell bad news for captain James McClean. The Welsh team, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, were linked last week with an attempt to lure Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson to Wales. ‌ And Aaron Cresswell is now reportedly their newest transfer target after bidding a heartfelt goodbye to West Ham. As per ReluctantNicko via Patreon, both Wrexham and Leeds are vying for the left-back's signature ahead of his contract expiring next month. ‌ It's reported that the Red Dragons may have the upper hand due to their closeness to his original home of Merseyside and the promise of regular playing time. Wrexham are also believed to be prepared to present an appealing financial package to the 35-year-old as manager Phil Parkinson seeks to strengthen his squad following their recent promotion to the Championship. However, this could spell trouble for club captain McClean, who currently holds the left wing-back position. Cresswell made his final appearance for West Ham on Sunday, coming on as a late substitute during their 3-1 Premier League win over Ipswich at Portman Road. His exit from the Hammers was confirmed earlier this month after an eleven-year stint with the club. Cresswell has clocked up 369 appearances for the east London side since transferring from Ipswich for £3.75million in July 2014. Article continues below Having been part of the victorious Europa Conference League team in 2023 and with three England caps under his belt, Cresswell expressed a deep sense of appreciation for his tenure at West Ham following Sunday's victory. Wrexham are said to be interested in Aaron Cresswell following his departure from West Ham (Image:) Cresswell reflected on his poignant farewell, saying: "It was special. I was sweating a little bit towards the end about whether I was going to get on or not, but the reception I got will live with me until the day I die. ‌ "Every time I've worn this jersey, I'd like to think I've worn it with pride and tried to represent the club in the right way. I'm reflecting certainly over the last two weeks, and I'm just grateful for the whole journey, and we've been through so many lows and had some unbelievable highs. "I've said it a lot this week. These moments I'll cherish for the rest of my life. And I'll never forget these boys; the special group we've had, especially over the last four, five, or six years, has been incredible." He said: "He [Cresswell] has been a credit to himself. I was asked a couple of questions before the game and even last week, and since the news came out that he was leaving." "You wouldn't have known, and I think that's a credit to Cress himself, the way that he applies himself every single day in training, and he's such a big character at this club and will be remembered forever. "We go to Manchester United away, and he puts in a man of the match performance there, and then against Nottingham Forest as well, he comes out with another strong performance. And I think, for me, that's one of the biggest things that Cress can look at himself and wear with pride. Article continues below "Today he got the moment that I think he thoroughly deserved, against the club that we signed him from and finishing in front of our fans that he's also played in front of for 11 years. For me, it's been a pleasure to be in the dressing room with Cress and to be a teammate and a friend as well."
