Dolphins sign RB Mike Boone

The Dolphins are doubling down on running back additions in the wake of Alexander Mattison's season-ending neck injury. In addition to the previously reported move to add Aaron Shampklin to the backfield, the Dolphins announced that they have signed Mike Boone on Monday. They placed Mattison on injured reserve and waived wide receiver Monaray Baldwin to make room for the two new backs. Boone appeared in six games for the Panthers last year and ran 13 times for 51 yards. He has also played for Houston, Denver, and Minnesota and has 117 carries for 590 yards over the course of his career. Boone and Shampklin join De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and Ollie Gordon as running back options in Miami.

Dolphins to sign RB Aaron Shampklin

The Dolphins are adding running back Aaron Shampklin to their roster. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team will sign Shampklin after working him out on Monday. They also worked out former Packers and Saints running back Jamaal Williams. The move comes after the Dolphins lost Alexander Mattison for the season with a neck injury. De'Von Achane, Jaylen Wright, and sixth-round pick Ollie Gordon are their other backs. Shampklin ran six times for 17 yards in three games for the Steelers last season. He also worked out for the Bears and Jets recently, but his bid for more regular season action will unfold in Miami.

Steelers Shake Up Roster After Rookie Minicamp

The Pittsburgh Steelers just completed their rookie minicamp and got a look at all their recent draft picks and a few other participants on the field over the weekend. On Tuesday, the team released running back Aaron Shampklin as part of their post-minicamp moves. Advertisement The former Harvard back has spent three seasons in the Ivy League for the Crimson from 2017-21, but missed 2019 with an injury and sat out 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. He went undrafted in 2022 and signed with the Dallas Cowboys. After offseason stints with the Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts, Shampklin spent one season in the USFL with the Houston Gamblers (now the UFL's Houston Roughnecks). He then signed in the 2023 offseason with the Los Angeles Chargers before joining Pittsburgh ahead of the 2024 season. Shampklin signed a future/reserves contract with the Steelers in January 2024 before being waived in August and re-signed to the practice squad in September. He made his NFL debut in Week 4's matchup against the Colts before being released on Oct. 28 and re-signed to the practice squad. In six games with Pittsburgh, Shampklin tallied six carries for 17 yards. Shampklin also reportedly served as a substitute teacher in Southern California. Advertisement While with Harvard, Shampklin totalled 2,251 yards on 402 carries with 23 touchdowns and 29 catches for another 296 yards and three scores. Now, he'll look for another opportunity to extend his modest NFL career or find a roster spot on the spring's UFL, which serves as a "prove it" league for aspiring NFL players.
