SIH organises specialised courses for Asalah Club female members
Courses will be held at the Centre For International Cultural Heritage Organisations in Sharjah University City from April 8 to 10. Workshops will include incense making, clothing dyeing, burqa-making, and kohl-making. Enhancing women role in society The project aims to empower women to acquire traditional skills that contribute to the preservation of Emirati society's cultural heritage, enhancing the role of women in society and highlighting their effective contribution to preserving traditional heritage. This initiative is also an important step toward activating women's societal role and empowering them to achieve leadership in this field. Dr. Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, President of SIH said that the Institute is proud to launch these training courses aimed at empowering Emirati women and enhancing their role in preserving the rich cultural heritage. The initiative comes within the framework of SIH ongoing commitment to providing educational and training opportunities that contribute to the preservation and development of traditional crafts, which constitute an essential part of our cultural identity. SIH affirms that courses will significantly contribute to strengthening the role of women in Emirati society and will be a pivotal step in preserving local cultural heritage.

Sharjah Heritage Days in Al Dhaid highlights bedouin heritage
22nd edition of Sharjah Heritage Days launched The 22nd edition of Sharjah Heritage Days was launched on Thursday at Al Dhaid Fort, with His Excellency Dr Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, leading the opening ceremony. The event was attended by numerous officials and heads of government departments and institutions. Rich cultural programme in Al Dhaid Saqr Mohammed highlighted that the event in Al Dhaid showcases a wide array of folkloric activities, with a focus on Bedouin heritage. The village set up near the historic Al Dhaid Fort features various booths from both government and private sector institutions. Unique experiences and international participation The organising committee, in collaboration with the Municipal Council and Al Dhaid Municipality, included activities such as hunting in palaces, camel rides, Arabic coffee, and popular dishes, along with handmade crafts. The 22nd edition of Sharjah Heritage Days stands out for its participation from 22 countries, with over 50 local entities joining the celebration.

At SHD: Experts urge use of AI to preserve heritage
They highlighted the need for modern scientific platforms, specialised conferences, and training programmes aligned with ethical, artistic, and knowledge standards for heritage, based on solid and reliable foundations. These efforts aim to foster global cultural connections based on shared knowledge. The Cultural Café Session on AI and Heritage This discussion took place during the first session of the Cultural Café, part of the Sharjah Heritage Days at the Cultural Heritage Centre "Al Bait Al Gharbi." The session, titled "Documenting Cultural Heritage in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," featured experts such as Dr Abdul Aziz Al Musallam, Dr Majid Bushalibi, Dr. Moza Ghabash, Dr Ahmed Bahy El-Din, and Dr Rashid Al-Mazrouei, moderated by Dr Khaled Al-Shahi. Addressing the challenges of AI in heritage Dr Abdul Aziz Al Musallam pointed out the challenges of relying too heavily on AI for heritage preservation, including the growing trend of researchers prioritising speed over quality. He called for national platforms to support sciences, including heritage, to establish optimal knowledge bases. Dr Al Musallam also revealed plans to host a future conference focused on AI's role in documenting cultural heritage. Training and ethical concerns with AI in heritage Dr Majid Bushalibi emphasised AI's role as a complement to human intelligence, urging the Sharjah Institute for Heritage to develop training programs for heritage researchers that incorporate ethical guidelines. Dr Ahmed Bahy El-Din noted the importance of balancing AI's capabilities with human creativity and identity, while Dr Moza Ghabash stressed the need for AI to preserve national identities, not threaten them. Dr Rashid Al-Mazrouei highlighted the challenges AI faces in understanding local dialects and accurately representing folk heritage.

SIH unveils 22nd Sharjah Heritage Days with global participation
This year's edition of the Days promises an exceptional experience under the theme "Roots", highlighting the authenticity of Emirati heritage and showcasing the deep cultural and historical connections that bridge the past and present. Through a diverse array of activities and events, the festival will celebrate traditions, customs, and cultural heritage, reinforcing national identity and fostering intergenerational dialogue. The festivities will extend across seven cities in the Emirate of Sharjah, starting in Sharjah City from February 12 to 23, before moving to Khorfakkan, Mleiha, Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Kalba, and Dibba Al-Hisn. This expansion offers visitors a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage in diverse environments across the emirate. Additionally, the event will feature the launch of the "Book Market," bringing together over 12 libraries and six publishing houses, offering a platform to celebrate literary heritage. The festival will also showcase live demonstrations by 150 artisans from around the world, along with the largest Al-Ayyala folk performance, featuring 300 folk artists. The artistic program includes the "Palm Symphony" operetta, the play "Mawa'id Arqoub," and the children's theater production "Island of Wishes." 8th GCC Dama Championship The 8th GCC Dama Championship, a traditional strategy board game competition, will be hosted during the event. Additionally, three major exhibitions will take place, including the "Roots" Exhibition, which explores Sharjah's historical milestones in education, traditional markets, and medical practices. The "Scents Through the Ages" Exhibition will document the evolution of perfumery across civilizations, while the "A Century of Libraries" Exhibition will highlight Sharjah's literary and archival heritage dating back to 1925. 27 folk groups The festival will bring together 27 folk groups, including seven Arab groups, 15 Emirati groups, and five international groups from India, Russia, Georgia, Macedonia, and Montenegro, representing the diverse range of folklore traditions worldwide. Rich intellectual and cultural programme A rich intellectual and cultural program will accompany the festival, featuring 14 academic lectures and 15 book launches, alongside cultural café discussions and the International School of Storytelling, providing scholars and researchers with an opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions on heritage and contemporary cultural issues. To ensure a seamless visitor experience, 500 additional parking spaces have been added, along with a dedicated Heritage Days Train to transport guests across the venue. A comprehensive logistical support system, including security, medical assistance, and emergency response teams, has been put in place to accommodate the high number of attendees. The 22nd edition of Sharjah Heritage Days promises to be a unique celebration of tradition and innovation, offering visitors a deeply immersive experience in heritage, culture, and artistic expression.
