Victorious NDA candidates should not be complacent: CM
Guwahati: The winners from the NDA in the panchayat elections should not become complacent and rather work with the same spirit for the assembly polls, which will be held next year, said CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said on to the media at Sonapur, on the outskirts of Guwahati, the CM said the newly elected representatives of the panchayats have been asked to continue to serve the people diligently or else the NDA might end up in the same situation as Congress. "If we become too arrogant or self-satisfied, it could be detrimental. With the assembly elections just eight months away, it's fine to celebrate this victory, but we must also prepare ourselves for the upcoming elections," he further asked the newly elected representatives of the panchayats, as well as the MLAs and the MPs, to meet the expectations of people. "When people extend their support, their expectations also increase. I have asked everyone to work in such a way so that people do not feel that we have become proud," he said Congress knows that the people of the state are not in a mood to vote for them anymore. "It will take several years for them to make a comeback because we are doing so much good work for the people and therefore people extend their support," he senior Congress leader Abdul Khaleque, while talking to the media about the dismal performance of the Opposition, said it is a time of self-introspection and accountability for the leaders as well as Congress, without which nobody can win a battle. "We, including myself, failed and we must do self-introspection. To defeat BJP, it is necessary for the opposition to win the trust of Hindus in the state," he said the Congress leadership will review and analyse the results of the panchayat elections and, accordingly, the party will prepare a blueprint for the assembly elections, which will be held early next year.
