Environment launches the first project of the Carbon Economics Company in partnership with WFP

The Ministry of Environment announced today, Thursday, the launch of the first project of the Carbon Economics Company in partnership with the World Food Program.
The Ministry of Environment said in a statement - received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "In an important and historic meeting from the headquarters of the Ministry of Environment, Minister of Environment He Lu Al-Askari announced the launch of the first project of the Carbon Economics Company, which is the mangrove cultivation project in Basra, in partnership with the World Food Program of the United Nations."
The minister stressed during his speech the importance of this project, which comes within the efforts of the Iraqi government to improve the environment and achieve sustainable development, noting that "the project represents a qualitative shift in the field of green economy, and contributes to diversifying the sources of the national economy through carbon revenues."
The Minister praised the support provided by the United Nations programs to Iraq in the environmental field, stressing that "this support contributed to strengthening the environmental monitoring work in Iraq, expressing the Ministry's aspiration to continue this fruitful cooperation with the United Nations."
For his part, the representative of the World Food Program (WFP) in Iraq, Abdul Majeed Yahya, expressed his happiness at launching this important project, stressing that "the program is fully prepared to provide all forms of support to make this project a success, which serves the environment and contributes to achieving sustainable development in Iraq."
In the same context, the technical advisor to the Ministry of Environment and Director of the Carbon Economics Company, Nazir Abboud, confirmed that "the mangrove cultivation project in Basra is considered one of the most important environmental projects adopted by the Iraqi government, as it aims to revive the natural systems in the region, and enhance Iraq's international position in the context of confronting the effects of climate change and adapting to it."
The statement pointed out that "launching this project is within the framework of the efforts of the General Company for Carbon Economics to enter the global carbon markets, and achieve financial returns that contribute to supporting the national economy."
