This is a political war about borders. We must not bring hatred to our streets and our homes."Bristol has a wonderful Indian and Pakistani community. We've sat together. We've listened. This is the time to stand united - and that's what we intend to do." "Trying to avoid any conflicts is my main concern," said Pankaj Pandya, one of the trustees of the Hindu Temple in Bristol. "Hopefully it doesn't escalate, and it doesn't become tit-for-tat leading to an outright war between two nuclear nations."Being an Indian myself, it's a concern for not only what is happening between India and Pakistan, but just generally the issues of war throughout the world at the moment." India says at least 16 people were killed by Pakistani shelling on its side of the de facto border."As someone from the Pakistani diaspora, it's quite sad to see that there's tensions between both communities and innocent lives have been lost on both sides of the border," said Mr Ghafar."We don't want anything to be spreading across to this part of the world as we have very good cordial and friendly relationships with our Indian diaspora community who have lived with us side by side for a good 50 to 60 years." On 29 April, an interfaith and intercultural meeting was organised in Bristol by the International Human Rights Movement (HRM), Bristol Pakistani Forum and the Bristol Multi-Faith Basharat Ali Khan, chairman of the HRM, said: "It's so horrible to witness something like this in the 21st Century."It is not something we want to witness in this age, while we are fighting for justice."We need to change our priorities - we need to focus and invest on humans rather than defence and we need to come off this war affected mentality." 14 committee members, vice-chief quit posts in Lenggong PKR

The 15 who resigned had won their respective positions during PKR's divisional elections held on April 13. PETALING JAYA : Fourteen of the 15 committee members of Lenggong PKR as well as its vice-chief have resigned in protest over the outcome of the party's recent divisional elections. One of them, Abdul Malik Abdul Rahman, claimed that the resignations were because of a lack of transparency in the election process. He also alleged that the newly elected division chief, Tahirudin Pooty, did not have the mandate of the majority of the committee members or grassroots members, Utusan Malaysia reported. 'We held collective discussions and made this decision responsibly,' he said at a press conference today. Based on the party's website, Tahirudin had won the Lenggong PKR chief's post after securing 555 votes in a five-cornered fight. The 15 who resigned had won their respective positions during the party elections held on April 13. Each of them also signed a statutory declaration formalising their resignations, and declared a loss of confidence in Tahirudin's leadership. They said the matter would be officially conveyed to the state and central PKR leadership, including the party election committee. They also said that with two-thirds of the division committee resigning, Clause 32.4 of the party's constitution allows the central leadership council to suspend or dissolve the committee and take over its functions.

SIAL Canada agri show

Recently SIAL Canada Agri Business Exhibition was held on April/29 thru May/1, in Canada's major trade & finance hub, Toronto. Pakistan Pavilion had a formidable presence with several Pakistani producers of agri food. The quality of edibles on display appeared to be excellent. If only the private sector exporters can maintain the quality in their actual export shipments, there is absolutely no reason for Pakistan not to be in the forefront of agri export. The Consul General of Pakistan, Toronto and Trade and Investment Counsellor, in particular, must be congratulated and commended for doing such a sterling job in arranging and facilitating Pakistani producers for the exhibition.
